This is a practical way to protect trees from deer rubbing their antlers on the bark.
This is practical protection for trees from deer. The small holes will let the tree "breathe" and not get moldy, as when fully wrapped.Decent cost, reasonable effort required to install.

Looks like they will work and easy to assemble
I just installed these around a young tree that has an approximate 11" circumference at the base. Wrapping the 13.5" width around the tree gave me an ideal fit. I stacked/interconnected them 4 shields high for a total of 36" to protect the trunk from deer up to the first branch. The protectors easily link together and should do the job; durability will be demonstrated over time with the biggest risk being that they will get brittle with extended sun exposure. I like that these protectors are modular so that they can accommodate different heights and diameters of trunk, I just wish that I had thought of these before my lawn service rung my maple last year.

Good barrier, awkward to assemble around tree
I had a mystery animal scratch giant 2 foot tears down the trunk in multiple places. It was weird because we planted the tree 4 years ago and never had even one little scrape. I panicked and bought these since it's the off season for tree supplies and my local nurseries were out. (The pictures with the slats on are after the smoke from the fires dropped a good portion of the leaves off.)The barrier slats are sturdy, thick, and bendy. The plastic is too soft to snap, but thick enough to stay in form. They come in flat packs which is nice because I'd rather fight to get them around the tree than fight to get them uncurled and risk scraping up the tree. They are tricky to assemble, partly because the tabs and holes don't click in to place. It's more like they slide in and the tension keeps them in place. I used 2 slats for each ring on my 6"-8" trunk.I thought I'd only need a 6 pack to go up 3 feet, but it took 12 because of the overlap needed to stack them. I thought it would get narrower the higher I went, but I had to make them a little bigger each time so the stack would hold tension and not collapse. The color blends in better than I thought it would, but the logo is kinda ugly. The logos don't line up since the higher you go, the bigger the rings need to be to stack them.I thought it would take me 10-15 minutes, but it took over an hour of trial and error to get the slats around the tree and stack them without them falling down. I had to enlist a second set of hands to hold one ring still while I tried to get the ring above it to sit right. It was super frustrating, but I am happy with the level of protection it provides.

High quality, although expensive
These are very well-made, and the medium-dark green color is harmonious with the landscaping. In important feature is the ample open slots to allow air circulation and some sunlight exposure. (I replaced all white plastic tubes with no openings, and the bark under the tubes looked unhealthy. Plus they were ugly.)The included Zipties are too small and flimsy and won't last long when exposed to UV. Buy sturdy green Zipties or use metal wire. Here's a tip: Assemble all the pieces and add Zipties BEFORE wrapping around the tree trunk and closing the cylinder. Finally add Zipties to secure the vertical joint.

workes great
I ordered i 6 pack the first time to see if I liked them . I just ordered the 36 ct to go around all my trees. They work great and you can make them bigger to the size of the tree . The tie wraps was to small for me . I used bigger ones . They hook without the ties but the ties reinforce the hooks .

Easy to install
I like the versatility of connecting the pieces in different circumferences and varied height. This will come in handy as the tree grows.

It works
Ok so I purchased this to protect a seedling that I planted. It does what they say it does, although itโs a little flimsy and is not easy to keep together. It requires a bit of patience and support with pvc pipes, wooden dowels , and zip ties. Itโll eventually get the job done, but it maybe worth paying a little extra and getting an actual tree tubes would be easier.
