How long does a filter last? I bought mine 3 weeks ago and the red light already came on signaling it needs to be replaced.

Which red light? The red light for filter replacement is on top and shouldn't come for 6 months or more depending on how long and high the fan setting. Page 11 of manual. The red led on front side is red if polluted air is detected, then yellow then blue when air is clear. Page 10.

How much do the filters cost and where do I get them

As of 7/13/2022, Amazon sells replacement filters. Original is $21.

Do you have to use auto mode? To reduce noise we may want to use low setting at certain times, is that do-able?

You do not have to use these machines in Auto Mode. You can set to a manual speed if you would prefer to have controls over the fan speeds.

Consumer reports rates the 411 Auto very poorly for filtration at any speed. Does the manufacturer have a response to this?

I subscribe to consumer reports, but I am not always a fan of their review methodology. I think the problem here is that they compare all sizes of purifiers together, when the smaller units should be compared with other smaller units. Of course, a larger unit with higher CFM air flow and larger filter area will perform better than a smaller unit. Other review sites gave this purifier good ratings for its size. Some recommend just buying the larger unit, which is rated highly by Consumer Reports and running on a lower speed setting.
