How do you get the bubbles to work? I plugged it in and the lights come on, but there are no bubbles. Also the adaptor was broken-bought one.

As soon as u plug it in it should start working. If it's not bubbling, when plugged in, It's definately broken. Send it back.

Is the base silver or black?

The one I received is silver, not sure if they also come in black.
