Sharpened up my cutlery nicely
Didn't realize just how worn my old one was (10+ yrs) until the new arrived. Great replacment item for my set - fits in my Henkel block. Heavy weight formed plastic handle for nice grip when using. Sharpened up my cutlery nicely.

Sharpens in the best way possible
My grandpa used to sharpen his knives with something similar. I used to love watching him because in my young eyes he seemed like a pro. My knives were dull. Exceedingly so. I sharpened my chefโs knife, it cuts so smoothly now without smashing my tomatoes. Like a dream. I sharpened some cheap steak knives I purchased years ago, and I donโt think they have ever been sharp. They are now. I seem to take the sharpness for granted because Iโm cutting myself every week just by handling the knives for washing and putting them away where I didnโt before. Because they were dull. This sharpener works very well. Itโs easy to use and it sharpens my knives beautifully. For this price point, what have you got to lose? I highly recommend this product. And if anything were to happen where it broke or went missing, I would not hesitate to get the exact same thing. My only regret is that I waited so long to make this purchase.

Incredible knife sharpener
After using honing rods I had around, then using this, the knife is so much sharper now. I never actually sharpen the knive anymore, I just hone it to a great edge. My wife would agree, but that edge so sharp....

STURDY BUILD, CLASSIC LOOK
BOTTOM LINE: It works, is a good length, and feels like a quality instrument. It only gets 4 stars, because the handle on the one I received is different than the one that is pictured and looks like a cheaper plastic. HANDLE: First off, the handle in the picture looks like it is wood with metal around the hilt. This is not what I received, and I didn't notice until just now (a month later) as I sit down to write the review. The handle that I received is all black and all plastic - it looks just like the OXO Good Grips Professional Sharpening Steel , but it says "J.A. Henckels International" on it with the single Henckels man logo. Nonetheless, it is quite sturdy, has good weight and balance, and it feels like it is full tang. The grip is not slippery in any way, so I have no concerns with it when I am using it to hone my knives. HILT: I just want to quickly point out that the hilt flares out just enough to protect your hand, which is nice, since it might just save you from cutting yourself when you are honing fast (it definitely saved me once). HONING QUALITY: I trust the Henckels brand. Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of experience with other sharpening tools (or honing steel), so I cannot say how this stacks up. In my opinion, this does what I want it to do - smoothing out the edges of my blades before and after I use them, and also after I sharpen them - just to make things nice and neat. I am still working on my technique for honing the inside of the blade - I get a much cleaner swipe on the outside of the blade. LENGTH: Lastly, the 9" length on this tool is good, especially for the value, but it is not great. It is fine for my 8" or 9" knives, but I can see how a longer sharpening steel would be better, since you can use the full length of the steel for honing without getting close to the hilt (or your hand). This is especially the case with longer knives (like my 12 inch Sekiryu Yanagiba Sashimi Knife 300mm ).

Works Much Better than the Cheap Knockoffs
I replaced one of these with a cheap version that didn't work at all. So, I bought a genuine brand-name one, and it works really well.

Great replacement for original Henckels sharpening steel
When I noticed that my nice 25-year-old set of Zwilling Henckels knives didn't seem sharp any more -- even though I used the original steel to sharpen them regularly -- I realized that the "file" grooves in the steel had gone completely dull. The new sharpening steel (which actually "trues" the edge rather than sharpening it: I have a good true knife sharpener for that) makes kitchen work a pleasure.

9 inches is Plenty
First honing steel ever. The length is perfect for my two knives; one filet, the other Santoku. Easy to hold, lightweight (compared to others) with a medium size grip. It does the job well, even for beginners. Patience is a virtue, don't rush. Each size needs equal attention. Instructions printed on packaging. Don't forget to wipe the knife after use to clean off microscopic steel particles. A good value for the money.

Well worth the money
I own only one quality knife, a Forschner, and I thought I had it sharp progressing tediously from 400 to 2000 grit honing stones. Or so I thought. After ~20 passes withe this 'stick' I found the newly found razor edge remarkable. I cook for a hobby and am no professional so this will serve me well. I was surprised reading all the negative reviews. Not me!

A good basic honing rod
Works well to maintain the edge on cheaper/mid level knives. Higher end knives would be better served with a ceramic rod.

Good!
Did a great job of honing / sharpening my baccarat knives Course enough to sharpen from the factory - see if it dulls off a little over time
