Tense and upsetting material, but good story
I loved "Santa Cruise" and grabbed this book thinking it would be similar. I did not read the reviews first. I stopped reading it because the verbal abuse of children really upset me. I confess I then read the last part to see if it was too, too horrible. It was not. So I started reading at the point where Abby was in college, which eased my anxiety a bit. The story made me feel as if I were in a maze, with all the twists, doubts, etc. The rest of the book was definitely a mystery with suspense, and I am glad I finished it. I still prefer "Santa Cruise" because it was uplifting and had so much joy in it.

A fine murder mystery
As always Fern brings her characters to life. She's an excellent writer that makes it hard to put down the story.

Thrilling, suspenseful mystery
Fern Michaels has written another thrilling, suspenseful mystery. This is an unpredictable plot and kept me guessing. I kept going back and forth onwho the actual killer was? Just when I thought the clues pointed to one person, something would pop up to make be suspect someone else. The more Abby discovers, the more her life is in jeopardy as well as her sister Mallory's life. Or is Mallery the killer? No, maybe it's Donovan. Could it be Carol? That wouldn't make sense. Carol is like a mother to her. All the clues are getting jumbled. Maybe she is just being paranoid and it's all a coincidence. Maybe her mother really did die of a heart attack. It appears her dad was so distraught he committed suicide. Then there is her fiancรฉ Connor. It's possible a healthy, 20 something young man could have had a heart attack, right?Thank you to NetGalley and Zebra Books for this advanced review copy. In return, I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Love Should Never be Obsessive
I love Fern Michaels. I have yet to read a poorly written book. My heart broke for the way Harriet and young Mallory treated Abby as a child. I cheered that her dad and Donovan showed her so much love and saw Abby beyond her facial discoloration. I regret that Mallory had to be Institutionalized in order to receive the treatment she needed, but in the end I am glad she came through it a stronger mentally healthier woman.I cry for the all time the two sisters lost together, but in the end their solidarity saved them. I want to hate Donovan for his betrayal to John and to Carol. His infidelity hurt so many people. People selfishly focus on their needs without thinking of the consequences of their actions, in this case, so many lives were lost.I love how Abby had two great guys and Bunny who were able to see beyond her imperfection. To see the beauty that radiates from within her. As with many Fern Michaels books the love, care and nurture of animals is emphasized. Animals like people are not disposable.

The author has a real hit with this book!
Once I started, I had to keep going! My poor family ate a lot of sandwiches till I had to answer the whining and cook! Keep it up Fern.

The Guest List
Not a bad story to while away your time with. Some things were a bit far-fetched. How many people would take in so many dogs without any training? But it didn't take away from the story.
