Are they noticeably larger than 16 oz. gloves?  That is, do they look like clown gloves?

Not too much larger; the difference is at the wrist where you wrap up the Velcro;  I got the heaviest ones to strengthen my arms, but be careful because the second week I threw a punch slightly to far out on a hook and I slightly pulled the upper forward muscle in the shoulder, but that was my fault and it made me focus to keep in tight on my punches.  If you are already built and you want to strengthen up, go for the heaviest you can get, and yes they will be larger than 16 oz. at least mine are and they are the 50 oz.  What I like is that you can punch all day and there is no impact on your hands or your wrist because the gloves are really thick and it strengthens your punches then at the end of a workout put on your lighter gloves and you will notice that your punches are getting noticeably stronger. I will only buy these for my main workout from now on because they are the only 50 oz that I could find and afford.

My order says 34 oz and 50 oz for $149. Does that mean i just bought a pair of each?

Are these good for using as bag gloves?

Great for shadow boxing and increasing hand speed, slowly build up to using on a heavy bag.. my opinion anyway.

Is each glove 50 oz each?

It’s very likely the answer is yes. I have two pairs from this brand not the 50 oz yet but, I do have the 24oz and 34oz so far make sure you get used to the gloves first. Each glove weighs the 24oz, or 34oz, so likely 50oz each which is over 3lbs each so be careful.
