I have read all the comments stating that macbook pro late 2011 supports this ram, however there was a comment saying you should edit the ifs file.

I have a 15 inch, 2011 MacBook Pro with an i7 2.0 and replaced the 8GB or RAM with 16GB and did not need to change any settings. What I experienced was that now the macOS updated to High Sierra automatically. Then I removed the 480GB SATA drive and put in a 1TB SSD. Wow!
