Ergodyne unisex adult Hi-vis Ranger Sun Hat, Lime, Large-X-Large US

I am a sailor who likes to sail long distances (e.g. 1200nm+) offshore in the ocean. I bought this "ranger" or "boony" hat to protect my face and ears and neck from sunburn. I have an extra large head (24.5" circ), and sometimes even "Extra Large" hats will not fit me well (or are too tight). This hat comes in XXL and I bought that size. I am very glad that this seller/brand (Ergodyne) has made this XXL hat (as few hats are made that size). I hope Ergodyne will continue to produce hats this large, as I think that is a competitive advantage as other sellers do not. I compared this hat to many others that look similar, and this one came in the needed XXL size. Others don't. I am very happy to say it fits very nicely, without any tightness. In fact, I like it so much I am going to order another one to have in case I lose this one. If I had a regular crew working for me, I would buy each person one of these. The high visibility yellow/lime color is very bright and is also good for sailors. The hat has two different reflective materials that really do work very well. The wide reflective band or ribbon on the hat crown is very good retroreflective material. In addition the hat has a narrow reflective trim that goes around the outside of the brim. Together these are very good at reflecting lights such as headlights of cars or spotlights or flashlights. This does provide a good sense of added safety visibility at night. The fabric used is lightweight, and the hat has a vented crown. I have worn this hat for many days in the hot sun and never felt "hot" under the hat. The hat comes with a very nice and long "stampede strap" or "wind strap" or "cord keeper" with a sliding adjustment button that works well. When sailing, I snug this down and can face the wind without fear of the hat blowing off my head. The brim is wide enough to provide good protection fo my ears and nose and face when under high sun. It also provides some sun protection for my neck. The hat material is light weight, so this hat can be easily rolled up or folded up and stuck in a pocket when not needed. But, because it is light weight, it is hardly noticeable when worn. I highly recommend this hat as a very good value, with outstanding features and functionality for sun protection and high visibility. By the way, I have not received any compensation or discount for writing this review. I simply like this hat very much, and consider it an excellent product, with outstanding value if you need sun protection and a larger size had for wear outdoors. If you are a sailor, hiker, walker, yard worker, field worker, farmer, or anyone who works outside and wants better all around (wide brim) sun protection in a light weight hat that is comfortable and easy to wear, this is a good solution.

I’m a regular hiker and we often go through national forest areas where hunters are allowed, so I bought these hi-vis hats for myself and my hiking partner. They’re extremely lightweight, fold up small, and fit easily into any backpack without taking up room. The brim has a nice sturdiness to it, and the hat holds its shape well even after being packed. There isn’t really an adjustment feature, but the size ranges listed are accurate and they have a bit of stretch, so make sure to choose the right size from the product listing. The hat has just enough wind resistance while still allowing airflow, which keeps it comfortable on long hikes. For the price, you honestly can’t beat it, and it makes me feel much safer when hiking in areas where hunters may be nearby.

There is a lot to like about this hat. The colors are very bright and anyone with this on is going to easily stand out. The materials are of good quality. The brim is just about the perfect size. It's big enough to provide plenty of shade but no so big that it looks like a sombrero. The brim is also just about right in terms of stiffness. It doesn't droop down but at the same time it's pretty flexible and would be easy to roll up for storage. The one problem I have is that it even in the L/XL size, it doesn't fit on to my ginormous melon of a head. According to the product description it should fit a circumference of 24" (which is right in between 7 5/8 and 7 3/4 hat size... what I usually wear). However, it doesn't feel like it's anywhere close to fitting. Rather than return it I think I'll try to find it a home on someone with a non huge head.

The small/medium will fit almost anyone, unless they have a 1960s beehive hairdo or fro. This is actually the second time I bought these. Last year I bought one to use kayakfishing so powerboats see me and don't run over me, and for sun protection. The grey stripe is HIGHLY reflective at night like reflective tape. Now I bought an extra to keep in the car in case of flat tires. I wear it all the time. Whenever I wear it shopping, high School age boys and girls all want one. Keeps the sun off my face and neck while fishing, gardening etc, and the top part is vented mesh. so it's cooler than many hats. I used to wear straw hats, but they sometimes blew off my head and across the lake. The retention chin strap on these has a button to lock or release the adjusted tightness, a fantastic feature on windy days. I now have 5 Orange ones, my high school aged niece borrowed my yellow one and won't give it back, that's HER hat now. Funniest thing, I'm old and have a grey beard, but high school kids want to wear what I have ... I wear them for sun protection and safety mostly, but I'll admit, they do look good on a person too. I can't recall EVER getting compliments on a hat, but this one gets a lot of compliments from all ages. Not only do the high school kids like it, ladies in their 20s to 50s say they like it, so I'm having to exercise more speed walking to escape all the women wanting to flirt with me (just kidding, but I suspect the high school girls and boys want them because you do get noticed instead of just blending in with a crowd) I originally loaned the yellow one to my niece at a festival so I could spot her easily if we got separated in the crowd (which we did when she met up with some of her freinds) When I wear one to her high school concerts or plays, people all come up asking where to get one. Actually, I bought 4 this time, One for car, one for fishing, one for gardening, one to get borrowed....Apparently buying 2 last time wasn't enough)

I'll start by explaining that I purchased this for work outside in the hot desert sun, directing traffic. I work at a school as a crossing guard, and an hour and a half a day in the hot heat of summer is very grueling, especially without a hat! I have been searching for a bright hat to wear, as recommended by our guidelines, and figured that one that blends with the vest would probably be best. This hat is very bright, which is great. It helps ensure that drivers see you, regardless of conditions outside. I'm not certain about the reflective aspects in practical use, as I work only during the daytime, but I can see light reflect off of the passive reflective strip when I hold it under a light, so I assume that it works pretty well. The chin strap is great, as it can get very windy here on a moment's notice, so it is wonderful to not worry about the cap flying off my head all the time. I can't imagine that I'd want to be chasing my hat around during rush hour! The lightness of this hat is great too, much better than some of the other shade hats I have tried. This in combination with the mesh vents on the hat make it a lot more comfortable during the hot months here. The cap has a rim just wide enough to keep the afternoon sun off of your neck, face, and scalp, which makes it a plus, as sunburns are a terrible thing to get while working. My only complaint about this hat is that the rim is very flimsy, and any wind gust over 5 MPH will bend the rim up or back, causing a bit of a problem, but nothing worth knocking a star off for, as the hat still serves its purpose quite well. The hat has lasted me for a month now with no other problems, and I hope to get even more use out of it through next year. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase, and recommended it to some of the other crossing guards as well.

This is perfect for those who work outside. Good light and very bright hat. Keeps the sun off you and material is breathable.

I like the big brim and the bright color. I wear it while land surveying to keep the sun off my head and keep myself easy to see while working. The problem is that it's made of polyester! It is hot!!!!! It turns my head into an oven!!! The vent holes that are there do very little to cool my head. Also the size of the hat is a bit too big but I wear my hair very short so I can understand that. It's great on cool days just not the summer days here in North Carolina.

This hat is prefect for visibility, nice and bright. I ordered a small/medium and it fit over my head (22 inch) nicely. It's not too tight. The very top of the hat is rain proof. This part does not breath at all, so I punched a few holes in it with a hole punch, because I use it on hot humid days and I needed air flow. Good sized brim to keep the sun off my face, and the adjustable neck straps are great. Will be buying another one in the future.

Yes, the brim, keeps direct SUN from my face, but the BEST part, is that it is very visible
