2020 Model but ROCKS!
So have been looking to upgrade my home theatre system (about 20 yrs old) and had a Denon receiver and Mirage sub along with towers and surround speakers. I first updated the 8 inch mirage sub to a S120 Klipsch sub = WOW what a difference with "punch and lows" this was a big improvement. Next I searched for an AVR that wasnt $1000 + and searched a lot. Since I had a Denon and it served me well I mostly researched Denon but also looked at Marantz, Sony, Yamaha, and a few others begore I settled on the AVR -2700H. Denon has a newer version the 2800 but this is over the $1000 i was trying to stay under and comparing these side by side the 2700 has a few less options and connections but the same power (read watts per channel) and overall performance is similar but $450 less than the 2800. the receiver arrived and was ready to connect and listen. I saw some reviews where folks wrote they were up and running in under 10 minutes! Well congratulations as this took a bit more for me to complete and have operational. The intuitive set up guide is great. But you still need to wire all the speakers, sub, tv, power, had to look for one additional HDMI cable and then enter the set up menu on the TV. Step by step the Denon will send a test sound to each speaker and sub to detect a connection. One of my rear speakers wasnt wired correctly and the Denon found this and alerted me on TV and I couldnt continue till wired correctly. The system then identified all the other components connected and tested connections. Good to go. Connected microphone to run sound calibration, Denon took measurements from various spots in the room and completed the sound check. Listened to the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour and forgot how deep some of the symphony music on that CD. WOW was I blown away. Off to a DVD that I play through a PS4 (which Denon auto detected) and again blown away with the sound. Didnt take too long to get to this point but not a 10 minute job, more like an hour or so but thats me. You might be able to plug wires and hear music in 10 minutes? The App - you almost have to get the Denon app as the remote doesnt really do much except adjust the volume and a few other basics. I read that some had to pay $20 for the app? I didnt, just found on Google Play, installed, it found my AVR and BAMM, can adjust the sound parameters, adjust levels and many features that arent on the remote. The app is cool and installs on a smart phone and controls most everything with the new AVR. Next I was looking to upgrade my front towers and then back surround. This new AVR coupled with an upgrade in sub has reinvigerated my home theater system. Sounds these old ears havent heard in years from the same fomats in music. Yes there is a newer versiona dn more expensive systems out there. But for less than $1000 I upgraded my AVR and Sub and WOW its like old times. Luckily i live in the country and can turn this system up cause it cranks and sounds AWESOME!

Great receiver with some odd quirks
I bought this to replace my old Pioneer home theater receiver, which didn't support anything over 1080p. I was upgrading to a 4K projector, but keeping my 5 Jamo speakers. THE GOOD: • INCREDIBLE sound. On the same speakers, everything is remarkably punchier and clearer than on my old Pioneer, which I previously thought was pretty great. • Setup menus are easy to navigate. Very easy to switch between different surround processing methods. • I was prepared to buy a HEOS speaker to beam the sound to my bedroom or patio. Fortunately, this is not necessary at all, since you can connect additional speakers via Bluetooth, and even power them on remotely. If you have a larger house the range might be too small, but for mine it was perfect. There is a slight delay (as to be expected with Bluetooth) so you'll want to be careful not to have a bluetooth speaker within earshot of the physically connected ones. Also, you can't connect to a Bluetooth speaker and audio source at the same time. THE BAD: • The built-in speaker calibration utility is... not great. It kept misreporting a speaker as having the wrong phase. It cranked up the surround speakers and lowered my center channel, to the point where dialogue in some movie scenes was completely inaudible. I've heard from friends that this happened for them too with other recent Denon models, so it's not just me! I'd still use the setup so the receiver can compensate for the speakers' frequency response, but then override the individual channel volume settings. • The remote control is big and clunky and not super useful. Can't power on/off my projector like my old Pioneer remote could. I haven't gotten CEC working with any of my devices yet, but that might not be the receiver's fault. • Internet radio functionality is impossible to navigate, even with the janky smartphone app, and relatively useless. • Bizarrely, it also shows up on a network as an Apple Homekit device, which you can pair, but there's no actual functionality to be had. • While there are analog video inputs, this particular model is missing the digitizer, so you can't play any of them through HDMI, which means they're pretty much useless. You'll need a third party device to bridge them to HDMI. • As others have noted, there was a bug with this model so that 4k/120hz devices didn't work properly. I don't have one, so I can't test if that's been fixed in mine or not. Overall I'm very satisfied with this receiver and consider it to be a nice upgrade from my Pioneer. There are a few kinks, but no showstoppers, and I'll eventually figure out workarounds for most of them. Overall, recommended.

You Can Count On Denon Quality
I've been a Denon fan for over 30 years, and this receiver does not disappoint. It's reasonably priced for its features and performance, and it easily drives my bi-amped BG Radia ribbon-type main speakers in my living room's 5.2 AV setup.

Audiophiles welcome.
X2700H - this exceeded my wildest expectations. It replaced a Denon S510BT that quite frankly was working fine but I wanted the upgrade to 7.2. So glad I did. I'm running Polk Signature Elite series speakers. I couldn't be happier with the audio quality. Incredibly clean. Incredibly rich sound. It's like the whole room is just draped and dripping with sound. Setup was simple as the receive walks you through every step. I highly recommend you run the speaker setup with the microphone. It's worth the effort. Promise. I've not run any games through it yet. I've only run movies and TV at this point but I can only imagine it's going to be ridiculous. 95w of power is an upgrade that I'm here for 100% Wi-Fi setup was easy. System automatically updates itself. Bluetooth and Apple Air play HEOS a plus. 4k 120hz with 8K upscale, the video quality is outstanding. I also feel like it's a great value over the 2800 with the same specs. But half the price. At this point, all I have is praise and no regrets.

Not reliable, Bad customer service
I picked one of these up manufacturer-refurbed a little over a year ago. At the time I was led to believe it came with the same warranty as new (3 years). A little after a year the front panel stopped workin g and no sound came out. I reset it and no change. I contacted customer support. They took 3 days to respond to my initial request. They asked for my receipt and confirmed the 3 year warranty and wanted to know how I reset it. I told them and then they said I should firmware reset it and sent me the instructions to do that from another Denon receiver which clearly were incorrect for mine. After letting them know their instructions were wrong, they sent me the correct firmware reset instructions. But as I explained and as expected the front panel never came to life. I then had to email them 3 times over 3 days to get a reply from them. At that point they directed me to an obscure part of their web site which in general said refurrb-ed receivers only had a 1 year warranty. Moral of the story, DON'T BUT DENON. Decent sound quality. Abysmal customer support. Terrible quality. And they don't stand by their product. Marantz and Pioneer are two alternatives to consider.

My first experience with Denon: firmware not so great
I've been a loyal Onkyo customer for 20+ years but that company appears to be in the process of mismanaging itself out of business, at least in the US, so unable to buy what I wanted due to lack of availability, I decided to give Denon a try. Before spending what I normally spend on an AVR, I decided to check out a mid range model. You'll find plenty of reviews about the sound quality of this model, so I won't repeat them, but will say I generally agree that this amp provides a pretty good value on that front. What irritated me about this device is the abysmal quality of the firmware. There are many bugs, some of which I could find others complaining about such as powering on to zero volume rather than the configured volume, but there were also others that I didn't see referenced elsewhere such as: - When using HDMI ARC, even with CEC turned off on both the TV and the AVR, turning the TV off changes the source on the AVR from the currently playing source to the TV Audio source. The only way I could stop this from happening was to stop using ARC and use the optical input for TV audio. "CEC off + ARC on" means don't take any control actions on the AVR, just receive the audio, but Denon is reacting to something the TV is sending (perhaps a TV bug, I don't know). - I selected the "hide" option on the Tuner input accidentally ("hide" prevents an unused source from appearing in the list that the source selector knob can choose from). When I changed the setting back, the Tuner refused to output any audio at all. I could see the "tuned" indication, but no sound. I finally had the idea to use the "reset to defaults" (or something similar) option on the Input Assignment screen and that re-enabled the Tuner audio at the expense of erasing my input configuration. - I haven't fully characterized this problem yet, but I have the AVR hooked up to my home automation system and use Denon's control protocol on port 23 to control the AVR. When powering on the AVR the workaround for the zero volume problem (which is to use the "last" setting rather than a preset value) doesn't work. Sending the power-on, source-select, and volume sequences as fast as the AVR will receive them seems to trigger the volume bug. I can watch the AVR power-on, tell me the volume is 49 (as commanded) and then send a volume update to 0 (which I did not command) and then stay there. I literally had to modify the automation software to poll the volume until the 0 showed up and then re-send the desired volume. This only appears to be a bug around the power-on time; once powered on and the volume is reset the AVR behaves normally with respect to volume. UPDATE: The AVR doesn't seem to implement a buffer on the TCP connection. Putting a 500 ms delay between commands fixed these problems. My experience with Onkyo's control protocol was that it buffered the commands and didn't require these delays. I suppose all of this is the result of buying a new AVR so close to its debut. I am still giving it 3 stars because all of the problems are firmware problems and I hope Denon is working on cleaning up them up, otherwise this is my first and last Denon AVR. If the firmware just worked (rather than wasting 2-3 hours of my time figuring out how to work around the problems) it would have been a 4 star AVR. Onkyo, what happened to you, man? Update: One more annoying problem: I have this issue with a TCL Roku TV and can't be sure that it isn't also partly to blame, but if the TV is not powered on (it is either unplugged or in a deep sleep state) when the AVR is powered on and the TV is then turned on later the AVR thinks no monitor is connected and refuses to output anything on the HDMI port. Turning the TV on doesn't cause the Denon to realize a monitor is now attached and the AVR will continue to refuse to output anything on HDMI until the AVR is power cycled with the TV on. The only way I have been able to prevent this from happening is to turn on "Fast Start" mode on the TV which effectively keeps it turned on all the time (but without driving the screen if the TV is "off"). The idle power of the TV changes from less than 1 Watt to 15 Watts in this mode. What a waste of energy just so the Denon will know a TV is always connected! Again, this could be a strange interaction between this brand of TV and the Denon, but this speaks to the lack of interoperability testing. TCL is not an obscure brand of TV and "Fast Start" off is the default mode. The AVR is probably turning HDMI output off when it fails to get an EDID response from the connected, but powered-off, TV. While it is fine for the AVR to require an EDID response during setup, how many people are constantly changing their TV after setup? Simply remember the last configured monitor and keep driving HDMI for that monitor even if you don't detect anything connected. This seems pretty obvious. I'd be interested to hear from others whether the Denon behaves this way will all monitors or if it is just TCL doing this. (It's too much trouble to either move the rack-mounted AVR to another TV or bring another TV to the rack-mounted AVR since all my TVs are attached to walls...) I am keeping the Denon because I have found solutions for all the problems and the sound quality is very good for the price, but I am dismayed at how much effort was required to get everything working.

Great Atmos Receiver
Upgraded from a Sony DN1020 which was flawless for me but this is a huge step up. Audyssey made a huge difference to how good my room sounds. Set up is easy. The GUI, while nothing fancy, is easy to navigate. Despite the reviews, the iOS app works perfectly for me, makes switching between audio modes super easy. The 2.1 HDMI doesn’t work on 120hz but I’m a pretty casual gamer. My Xbox still turns on my tv’s game mode automatically.
