Can this also be used to test if the water has lead in it?

No,the liquid tests for the ph level in water from acid to alkaline.

How long will the color remain in the water? Will it fade away right away? It's for a science fair.

It does not fade right away, but I’ve not timed it long enough since I throw the solution out as soon as it changes to the color that it should be.
