After reading some of the complaints and using the safe for several months I had to leave a review. For its intended purpose it is a good safe. It is not intended to provide substantial security from burglars, fires, or miscreant children. It can be easily walked off with or broken open given enough time. Any consumer safe can be broken into, the question is how long and what tools and methods are needed. I broke into another brand's equivalent safe in a couple minutes with a hammer and screwdriver when it stopped functioning. I've seen Youtube videos about bumping the safe a certain way to unlock the magnetic mechanism. If you need increased security, spend more than a modest amount on a safe that is intended to provide security and fire protection. This safe works well for easy, quick access that still provides a level of protection from access by children. I think it is satisfactory for daily carry firearms or modest amounts of cash or valuables. I bolted mine to a shelf with self-locking nuts and large washers. That should provide a couple more minutes of time, which may prevent a smash and grab. But if you have high-dollar jewelry, cash, firearms, valuables or important documents, I would acquire a better safe. The battery compartment works fine for me, as does the locking mechanism, door and keypad. It would be nice if the second shelf were adjustable and deeper, but it is fine.

Spacious enough to hold two laptops and more
This is my second Sentry safe, and like the first I'm extremely pleased with it. I wanted an affordable security safe that would comfortably fit two laptops (a 14" and 15") and other assorted valuables and this one fits the bill. It's well designed, extremely sturdy and has an easy-to-operate electronic keypad (uses 4 AA batteries) that opens with your chosen security code. The electronic keypad can be overridden by included keys in case you forget the code or the batteries die. (I've had this safe for over 8 months and the batteries are still going strong) There's a metal shelf inside that can be removed to store bulkier items. The floor of the safe has a gray carpet-like liner. One of the things that sold me on this safe that it can easily store two average size laptops and still have room for other things. Many of the other safes in this price range couldn't even fit one 15" laptop. The safe can either be bolted to the floor or wall (with included hardware) or secured to another object with the included metal cord. Since this is a "security" safe, that means it isn't fireproof. While it's sturdy and well-built, professionals would probably find their way in. However, for the purposes of safeguarding your valuables from casual theft in the home, office, schools, college dorms, etc., this is an excellent safe that is durable and does the job well.

AWESOME!
Dear amazon Friends, I actually hardly ever write reviews, but this one deserves one. This Sentry safe is a ltttle bigger than it looks in pic, ((tho displayed dimentions are correct). I just programed my own code. (Note: each code can only be used once) It was easy as instructions said. (the house code given with it is the same for ALL this model, so be sure to change it)! AND you can send into Sentry (with Notorized ID'd paperwork as registered owner of item serial# if fjorget or need another key-small charge) The key works great as well, and alarm does not go off if key is used as back-up. Batteries popped out until the face plate was installed over them. I secured them with a sm piece of packing tape over this as another reviewer said that her batts fell out when door was closed. This did not happen but just in case... It is exactly as stated. Clean, simple, safe & secure. (especially if bolted to floor & wall as suggested)-tho only "two" bolts -no washers-were included and four holes are available. I feel it will be difficult to walk away with (if bolted down) and or get into without a lot of bad guy time involved. So all in all, GOOD investment. (unlike my stocks-which I WON"T be including in the safe) : }

keypad failed after 2 months,took some time but they replaced it
As I said. I input my code one day, it beeped the success beeps, but did not unlock the lock. Luckily, I had a key tucked away. The key did indeed unlock it. I tried new batteries, it did not work, I tried a second set of new batteries, it did not work. I changed the code and a 3rd set of new batteries and it did not work. I wrote support and they got back finally today after a week. and they told me to use batteries that were made this years and to use name brand to ensure full power and to clean the spring of my brand new safe to ensure it works. It is like they didn't even read the complaint, that tells them it is 2 months old, NOTHING is dirty, and that I tried 3 sets of new batteries. Duracell, Energizer, and then Energizer Lithium. Energizer Lithium is what I put in there to begin with, thinking you know they would last a long time, and I would not have an issue like this due to a dead battery. I called their number. It gives 3 options: Press 1 for a new key or combination, Press 2 if you are a vendor or distributor, Press 3 for technical support. I would press 3 and it would just repeat the options. I kept pressing 3 to no avail. I pressed 1 and the same thing happened. I kept calling during business hours and that is what kept happening. I told my wife, "Watch this, I bet if I press 2, and they think I am someone wanting to sell their product they will pick up." FIRST RING! I kid you not. I tell the guy, my issues, he tells me Tech support has a 4 minute wait and he will connect me. He connects me and the computer tells me 9 minutes. I wait, no answer, I opt to have my place save and them call me back. Days later, still no call. I buying one more batch of brand new Duracells to try this out. It is too late for a refund or I would get one. Would I recommend this safe? NO! Not if you want a functional keypad and lock. It is a decent safe. It will deter anyone who isn't determined to get into it. They can pick it up and take it with them , if you do not bolt it down like I did. So, they will have to spend a little time working on it. So it is an okay safe if you want a key only safe. Bu then if that is what you want you can get better and cheaper. The key pad and battery compartment are the cheapest of cheap plastics. I mean, the stuff that the remote controls for those $5 remote controls cars that are made in China that pop up in Dollar Stores and in the hallways of malls during Christmas, cheap. So that is another thing. And obviously, if you need batteries that were made fresh every month to power the thing(if this even works), then obviously, it wasn't very well thought out or very well made. You absolutely can not use rechargeable batteries. Those generally only yield 1.2 volts instead of 1.5 and this thing does need the full voltage, regardless. So, that is also another blemish. Not a huge deal. But again, design flaw, imo. If it works, then it is okay, within the parameters of what I mentioned. If it works, I think most will like it and not mind buying name brand batteries for it. Just be ready for the fickleness of it and then the lacking customer support. *update2/28/2025 Got yet another set of brand new Duracell batteries and used them and clean the safe with a qtip like they asked me to. None of that worked. I wrote and told them that. I that this was the 5th set of brand new batteries I have tried and am not buying any more batteries. They sent me a reply saying it looks like the electronic part has failed and I must use the key from now on. If you want a keypad combination safe then SKIP THIS SAFE, SKIP THIS BRAND, ALTOGETHER! Absolute trash! update: 03/13/25 So, after I got a little snarky with my reply. It made the agent aware they made a mistake. They sent me a replacement which took about a week or so. They tell you 6-10 days. I got a brand new safe. But the one they sent me was the wrong dimensions. I ordered the 075 which is a flatter, longer, wider safe rather than square. They sent me a somewhat smaller and square one, which can not fit into the area I have very well and does not suit my needs. I contacted them about this. 03/19/25 They had em send in pics and serial number of the safe they sent me. They acknowledged the issue. They are out of the one I had ordered and will be until , at least June, so they offered me a x105, which is nearly the same safe but 1.8 inches taller, everything is the same. I am able to work with this. So, I trashed them to begin with. Just seems to be a mix up in the beginning. All good, we all make mistakes. God knows, I have made probably way more than my share of them. So, it does seem customer service may not be the absolute fastest, but they do seem to be standing behind their product and making it right. So, I look forward to my new safe replacement and hopefully, it will last a while and I can keep this up at a 4 star.

Easy install quick delivery
This product arrived so fast! Very unusual for Hawaii so I was very pleased cause I needed it badly and quickly. It works beautifully. I was hoping to use it like a hotel safe where you could put in your own code, but it seemed a little difficult to keep changing it so I’m just sticking with one code. Super super simple installation with all the proper materials. Excellent job highly recommend.

Serves it's purpose
I purchased this safe in spite of many bad review about the lack of security this provides. I've read that it's too light and that a thief can easily carry it off. I've also seen video and heard complaints that the lock can easily be picked with a set of jiggler keys. First off.... I did not purchase this as an alternative to renting a safe deposit box at my bank. I do not intend to store a Rolex, my wife's engagement ring or any thing of any value that I need to protect from thieves or a house fire. I purchased this to keep my firearms safely away from my 3 year old and still keep it at an accessible location that in the event of an emergency, I can easily access it. Fact is... it is very lightweight and it does not have insulation to protect the contents from fire. If your intention is to store away a $10K Rolex and your wife's $30K diamond ring, I would suggest that you purchase a more heavy duty safe for $700 or more. Those things weight a ton and if you bolt them to the floor, no one is carrying off with it. This item is $60 for God sakes!! I considered another popular brand called Stack-on. Then I saw videos of a three year old bumping it or lifting one side and dropping it and the lock would come loose and the door would open. That is something I cannot have around so I went with this Sentrysafe. As for the video with the guy opening this with jiggler keys.... I think it will at least 15 years until my 3 yr old is old enough to somehow get his hands on one and successfully open this with one. This item is $60 for God sakes!! For what I intend to do with this safe, I think this was a great value and the locking mechanism is very easy to program and use. I am very happy with this and it is roomy enough to store 2 pistols and several cases of ammo, but small enough to hide in the corner of my closet. I am very happy with this purchase.

Perfect after a quick, easy modification
First, let's dispell the myth of the "uncrackable" safe. Applying such an unreasonable standard is nonsense for any safe because EVERY safe is vulnerable in some way. SentrySafe specifically states that this is to deter the "opportunistic" thief, so this is not expected to thwart the professional criminal with power tools handy. Read my recommendations below and you will be able to keep your belongings secure against most minor to mid-level attempts at breaking into the safe. I was undecided on whether to select the SentrySafe X055 Security Safe or the Stack-On PS-514 Personal Safe with Electronic Lock and chose the SentrySafe because YouTube is LOADED with quick, easy ways to break into the Stack-on PS-514. More than likely, most of the same techniques are also easily applied to the SentrySafe, but I just went with the one that was less visible on YouTube. There was also a small price difference in favor of the SentrySafe. I did like Stack-on's time-out period that goes into effect after three failed entry attempts using the passcode, but with the modifications I describe below it is less important. Here is my recommendation to **REALLY** secure the safe: 1. Bolt this baby to the floor! If you are burgled and this isn't bolted down, the burglers will not waste their time trying to crack the safe, they are just going to take it with them! 2. This should be common sense, but do not make the passcode your birthday or your anniversary, or anything else so painfully obvious and easy to look up. 3. Here is my modification: I added a Refrigerator Door Lock with Padlock - Black with a Sesamee K436 4 Dial Bottom Resettable Combination Brass Padlock with 1-Inch Hardened Steel Shackle and 10,000 Potential Combinations . This means that even if you can crack the digital padlock or keyhole on the safe, you still have to either cut the cable on the refrigerator lock or somehow break through the Sesamee K436 4 Dial Bottom Resettable Combination Brass Padlock with 1-Inch Hardened Steel Shackle and 10,000 Potential Combinations . I opted for Sesamee because of all the online videos on how to bypass a MasterLock padlock (it is easy). This will only slow down a burglar, but most teens or children (or other nosy family and friends) will be unwilling to actually damage the refrigerator lock or padlock in a way that makes it obvious that it has been tampered with. 4. I keep the spare safe keys in a Master Lock 5400D Select Access Key Storage Box with Set-Your-Own Combination Lock, 1-Pack discreetly placed in another room of the house. Yes, there are a total of three combinations to remember, but they are necessary for maximum security against unauthorized access. The modification is done for the purpose of keeping others out, and it does make it slower to get into the safe, so if you keep a loaded firearm in there in case of an intruder, you may not want to add an extra step for access that might slow you down. It depends on your priorities and what you are trying to keep safe. The refrigerator lock protects against typical break-in methods like lock picking, "bumping," and the way-too-easy paperclip tricks which these kinds of safes are susceptible to. It still isn't "unbreakable," but it is WAY more difficult to get into without the codes and is only a few seconds more for me to get into. For those of you who need a locked place to store things with very little threat of someone trying to pick the lock, this safe is fine as-is. If you have someone living with you or someone who has regular access that may be apt to try to break into the safe, I recommend this modification. There is additional security in redundancy.

POOR CHEAP PLASTIC COMPONENTS
I would give this a ZERO if I could. The turn knob is made of cheap plastic and breaks easily. I had important documents inside. The cheap plastic turn knob broke and I had to use the manual key to turn it to the unlock position and simultaneously manually pry open the door using a screw driver which I inserted into the slot where the turn knob sits. Sentry has clearly manufactured a surdy looking safe on the exterior BUT with extremely cheap plastic components in the interior and the main safety lock components are cheap and made of poor quality. They almost certainly will break easily for each and every person that buys this item. It is only a matter of time. Mine broke in a few months. In the case of others they will break in a few more but will certainly break. I needed my important documents in a hurry and was luckily able to figure out a manual solution and open the safe. DO NOT BUY THIS BADLY MADE PRODUCT.

Excellent safe and Excellent Installation
The safe is excellent and arrived when expected. It's not going to stop a determined thief - not a lot of those where I live anyway, but certainly makes it hard unless the person is determined. I also ordered the installation - which was seamless. They contacted me a couple of times to make sure the safe had arrived and to confirm the time. They were in and out in 15 minutes. They can also help with setting the password etc. if the user had not done that already. One thing to note is that some safes (not the Sentry Safe) need both a key and a combination. I think this is not what most users expect and would be annoying to in practice.
