Best Vacuum Iโve Ever Owned
I am absolutely in love with this Oreck Vacuum!! I have owned many vacuums and this one outperforms them all! You turn the thing on and it moves by itself dragging me along with it! A dream to operate! Very light weight and extremely powerful suction. I like that it has 2 settings..low for hardwood and high for carpet. The HEPA filter is HUGE due to my allergies to dust and pollen. I vacuumed my whole house yesterday ( 2,500 sq ft ) and never broke a sweat. It just glides around. Some reviewers have complained that it is louder than they would have liked. So What?!?! This thing is powerful and my floors have never felt better in bare feet. I would give this 10 STARS if I could!

Unbelievable Product!!!
This is absolutely and without a doubt the best vacuum I've ever had! I have back problems and was using a Hoover Wind Tunnel self-propelled until it broke down (for the second time in a little over a year). I decided that I would get a good vacuum that would last. I found the Magnesium RS online and thought it was a bit pricey. I was also very skeptical about the claim that, even though it wasn't self-propelled, you could run it across a plush carpet with one finger. Well, I'm not a skeptic any more! That is absolutely true. It's so light, and with the wheels (which I could never understand why Oreck didn't put them on their vacuums), you would never know it wasn't self-propelled. I've had Orecks in the past, and I wasn't crazy about changing the bags, as I always ended up with dust all over the place. The bag on the Magnesium not only pulls out easily, but it has a sliding dust cover that slides over the opening on the bag to keep 99% of the dust where it belongs. I have three cats who love to scatter litter around their boxes, but this vacuum sucks it all up like a trooper. The two speeds are great. All I have to do when I want to vacuum a throw rug is put it in low speed, and I don't have to worry about it sucking up half the rug. The auto turn-off feature works wonderfully if it happens to grab the corner of a rug. The vacuum shuts off immediately to allow you to remove the obstruction. I never understood what the big thing was about a swivel head on a vacuum, but it makes a tremendous difference when you're vacuuming around furniture. If you're looking for a top of the line vacuum that is a breeze to use and does a fantastic job, this is exactly what you're looking for!

Lightweight, Yes, But Gives Off a Strange Dusty Odor!
What I really bought this vacuum for was for the very lightweight feature. I wanted a vacuum that I could use for quick touch ups and would be light enough for me, not being a very big person, could easily carry up and down the stairs without asking my husband to do it for me. It is just that- very light weight, and maneuverable, but I do have other vacuums that I believe do a more deep cleaning job, and that includes getting the allergens etc. For an allergy sufferer, a bagged cleaner is a must. Have been using this machine for a few weeks, and am wondering if it really is a good as my Miele, a great upright but weighs a ton. I also own a Miele canister, many years old, which is needed to clean any other things aside from carpets, and floors. For me, it's very good for touch up cleaning of carpets, but my allergies have been worse lately, could the new Oreck be responsible? So, I still have to use other alternatives and not completely depend on this Oreck. After using this vaccum for sometime, I have less good to say about it. Yes, it's very lightweight, but I have noticed it DOES NOT clean my carpet deeply, and now after a month or so of use, notice a strange, dusty odor emitted while using, which is very obnoxious. It has a HEPA bag, but does it have the same HEPA filtration system as other vacuums. My allergies are worse, and I will use this machine in the basement only now. A shame, because it has many other features which I did like.

You Don't Need Weight To Have Pull
Our house is 4 stories high so I originally thought weโd keep one vacuum upstairs and one down, but this machine is so light (+#1) and maneuverable (+#2) that the old machine was gathering dust in the closet until we gave it to our daughter. Our Oreck is the swivel steering model. I thought it was probably a gimmick, but it actually works (+#3). You simply point the machine in the direction you want it to go. The suction is better than our bigger, heavier. more expensive machine (+#4), proving that you donโt have to be a heavy weight to have pull. Some people have reported problems with shag carpet. Weโve only go one but have had no problems. Our Cocker Spaniels shed some (but not too much) and, again, no problems. As advertised, it lies flat so you can slide it under most furniture(+#5). As far as I could tell the consumer and commercial models differed only in the heft of the attached cord, which, by the way, is not part of the advertised weight. The consumer cord is plenty long and sturdy. Donโt waste your money on anything else. The biggest problem with the cord is the same as all vacuums โ how to keep it out of the way. Oreck has a clip high on the handle. It doesnโt work. There are โwhiskersโ that stick out on each side that do work, so you can get really close front and sides (+#6). In case you missed it, this is only a floor and carpet vacuum. You really need something else for the steps. Iโll admit this is an inconvenience, but overall worth it. We bought our Oreck from Amazon Warehouse Deals. They said the box was a mess โ and it was โ but everything else was OK. With that saving, we essentially got the swivel steering for free.

Really good vac...but
I really love it. Light, v maneuverable, pleasant to use, not loud, does a great job picking up anything on any surface; low/high pile carpets, bare floors, we have all three. But.... The designers took a lot of unnecessary shortcuts. For example: To bring the arm down or stand it upright, there isn't a foot latch to lock/release. Instead, when u want to use it, u r instructed to put ur foot on the vacuum base and pull the arm to pop it out. Reverse the latter to put it back. Hence, u r unnecessarily forcing the fulcrum (the pivot point) that just so happens to be made of cheap plastic which is also the the suction tube and the swivel (u really need this piece). The kicker is it doesn't always click when it goes back so u can accidentally over extend/torque it. For $600 original price or $350 current u should get a latch or aluminum components instead of cheapo plastics at a critical area. It's too bad because I really love this vac. Would I recommend it....not sure.

Works great on new Mohawk plush carpet!
I'm starting this review by addressing the confusion about the WARRANTY. (7 Yr limited warranty with 5 free annual tune-ups) The Q&A answers are all over the place about the warranty and whether it's valid if purchased from Amazon. So before purchasing I personally called Oreck customer service and they confirmed Amazon is an AUTHORIZED RETAIL DEALER and the warranty is valid provided it is both SOLD BY and FULFILLED BY Amazon (no third party seller involved). Print a copy of your Amazon invoice and keep it in a handy place for when you need service. I also called the nearest Oreck store and asked if they would price match Amazon and the lady said they couldn't afford not to. But in the end I purchased from Amazon since the nearest store is 40 miles away (one way) and this vacuum could be delivered in 2 days thanks to Prime shipping. Some reviewers have stated they had trouble with the nearest Oreck store refusing to perform the free annual tune-ups or repairs under the warranty because it wasn't purchased from them. When I called Oreck I asked about this and was told if the store is an Oreck Clean Home Center, they are required to do it whether you purchased from them or not. If they refuse, simply call Oreck and report them to customer service. If there isn't a center near you, call Oreck and find out where you can take it. I haven't had a problem yet, just wanted to pass along the info. My first word of advice is read the description before you buy and read the manual before using the vacuum. A lot of the negative reviews are unfair to the product due to consumer failure to do one or both. I decided to get the Magnesium in spite of the many negatives because it quickly became clear some of them are erroneously unfair, some are simply moronic and of course some are legit complaints. Now for the product itself. First - it works great on new Mohawk plush carpet. I had an 11 yr old Oreck XL and when we moved to a new house with plush carpet the XL would not begin to push through it. Never thought of that! The Mohawk carpet site had a list of vacuums that would work on their carpet and the Magnesium RS was on it. My Oreck XL experience was smooth and reliable so I didn't want to risk trying any other brand. I've had it for about about 4 1/2 months, use it about once a week... no kids... one small puppy... one messy husband. It arrived well packaged and undamaged. The only assembly required is attaching the handle to the base which was "literally" a snap. There's a plastic strip in the battery compartment on the handle that has to be removed. There was a bag already installed and 1 extra bag in the box. It has high and low speeds. When you first turn it on the default is high. It's super lightweight and the swivel makes it easy to maneuver - it's true that it almost feels self-propelled. It is a lower profile than my XL but don't expect it to go under very low furniture. It's quieter than my old XL. It doesn't leave ugly lines in the carpet. The suction is excellent. I use it on high speed for carpet and low for vinyl flooring and it picks up crumbs on the first pass. The transition from carpet to vinyl is smooth as the height is self adjusting. It has 2 cord storage levers on the back. You manually wrap the cord (30 ft) around them and then the top one turns 1/2 turn clockwise to release the cord all at once (no unwinding). The belt is supposed to last a lifetime so no belts to buy or change - hope that's true. Some reviews complained that the black rubber bumper left marks on their base boards - I"ve never had that issue. Some gave negative reviews because it doesn't come with a hose and attachments - unfair - DUH!- nowhere in the description does it show or say it's supposed to. If that's what they wanted, why did they buy this one? That has no bearing on the performance of the vacuum cleaner. I have a hand held canister and attachments that came with my XL that still works great for upholstery, etc. Some negative reviews complain about the vacuum shutting off when it sucks up a sock or it gets blocked with pet hair and lint - unfair and DUH again! It's in the manual that it's designed to do that so it doesn't damage the motor and you will know it needs unblocking (the headlights are supposed to flash upon clogging). We have a non-shedding dog and don't have big dust bunnies so I haven't experienced the disassembly process to clear a blockage and can't comment on that but it looks simple enough. I only have 2 issues with the vacuum design. The first is the useless cord clip - worthless piece of junk. It's located on the back of the handle and is supposed to hold the cord up out of the way while vacuuming. It swivels and isn't tight enough to hold the cord securely. I'm using a twist tie. The second beef is the VERY blue LED twin headlights. Should be white lights to be useful. Other than those 2 design flaws, this is an excellent vacuum and no regrets. If anything changes, I'll update. I hope this helps others with the buying decision.

Exceeds Expectations, Blows Away other Brands We Tried
My wife and I wanted a nice vacuum that would last for well over a decade . Having gone from a $20 vacuum we invested in a $200 shark. We were disappointed. Top heavy, held a cup worth of debri, ect. This Oreck is light but doesn't feel cheap. It feels well made. It self propells without resisting you. On low it is quiet and picks up debri before you even go over the area by several inches. I could go on, as it is literally the best vacuum we've ever used. My family gave us their 30 year old oreck and it still works great. Noteworthy Features: self propells, great suction, simple, very well made, led lights, power selection. Best feature: it is unlike most modern, overly complicated vacuums that are all hard plastic material. It knows it's just supposed to be a vacuum cleaner :) .

Hate to say thisโฆ But it just โfeels cheapโ.....AND
Unfortunately, for an Oreck product that costs an absolute arm and a leg, This model has fallen far short of all expectations I had, having owned several previous Oreck vacuums with GREAT performance & durability This model is quite light weight but unfortunately at a very significant Sacrifice of feeling cheap and NOT durable. *** THE BIG PROBLEM HERE ***.... The device cannot work on thicker carpet at high suction! So basically all of the high suction properties of this vacuum cleaner are thrown out the window if you have a high quality carpet that causes too much friction And results in vacuum To shut down itโs motor. The whole point of us spending the money on this vacuum was to be able to have a vacuum with high suction that was designed to be able to still work on higher quality carpeting..... Oh well...... low speed it is..... But I probably couldโve done this with a much less expensive vacuum cleaner

Because the vacuum that we had a pretty heavy duty beater bar we thought we should look ...
We pruchased this because our new home has shag carpeting in it. It was a spec home so we had no choice otherwise we would not have chose that kind of carpeting. Because the vacuum that we had a pretty heavy duty beater bar we thought we should look to see what kind of vacuum would be best for shag. This Oreck was recommended so we thought we would give it a try. We are very happy that we did. It is very light weight and easy to manouver as well as doing a great job cleaning.

Perfection!!
As long as I need a vacuum cleaner, I will always turn to Oreck as my go to first choice. I have tried many vacuums over the years, cheap ones and expensive ones, and if you're looking for an upright, this product is impossible to beat. Light, easy to carry up and down stairs. Vacuums thick carpet and tile. There is truly no downside. Love it!!

Amazon needs to spend a little time making sure the used items they advertised as working ; do work.
I wish l could say l am enjoying my Oreck. This item wasn't described as non working ; just used. I spent 2 hours trying to get it to work. I even went out to purchase a replacement battery that fits into the power handle; but still couldn't get it to turn on. My son who is an electrician; had no success. I tried and tried to find away to speak to someone at Amazon; but found the hard way that Amazon prefers not to speak to anyone and you have to go to YouTube to find a way to customer service. I've owned several orecks in the past 20 years. Its a good product ; but mine was returned for a reason. It didn't work and was resold again. I really do not want a refund. I would like to exchange it for a working model. I probably average an Amazon purchase every other day; but at this point , im very disappointed . I don't have a working vacuum in my home and will have to borrow one.

Was one of my favourite vacuums
Love this vacuum for commercial house cleaning only . I would never use in a commercial building . Light weight easy to push , quiet enough and I like the two speed option . The only downfall of this vacuum is the on off power switch . This is my second vacuum and same issues with both . Iโve bought 15 of the oreck commercial uprights for my janitorial company and 50% of them all have power issues. I would think if they could fix the electrical issues they would have one of the best vacuums on the market.

Great vacuum.
I have it for a few months now and it's the best vacuum I have ever used, by far. Very powerful and unbelievably light. No problem with it, I like how it stops automatically if it gets stuck.
