Finally, A Set Of Phones That I Can Block Spam Calls
The VTech handsets were ordered for use with our landline. Since we have a security system that operates from cell phones and landlines, we ordered a new set of handsets and base. This set has so many features that it would take a book to review every feature. This particular system came with a base & 5 handsets. However, it is also expandable up to 12 handsets. The first and primary feature that I like is that I can block phone calls very similar to the way calls are blocked on my cell phone. If I am on a call, and it is from spam call, the "block" button can be pressed and added to the block list. Also, I can manually add numbers to the block list by entering the number and name on the call. The second feature that I like is that I can pair up to 2 cell phones (or 1 cell phone and a bluetooth headset) to the base. There is also a headset jack in case a person wants to use that type of ear phones rather than bluetooth. If a call is received on my cell phone and it is in within about 20 feet of the base, the call can be answered on one of the handsets. Similarly, a phone call can be made from the hand set as if it were my cell phone. In addition, I can block calls on the base that come in on the handsets by pressing the block button while the call is still in the process. The sound of the caller coming through the handsets and the speaker phone is very good quality, and the volume can be raised or lowered dependent upon the needs of the person using the handset. To date, we have not had any issues with regard to the sound quality or volume of the sounds coming through the system. Another feature that I like and use is that the contacts on my cell phone and my wife's cell phone can be downloaded onto the base for use on all handsets. There is also an "allow" call list that must be manually entered into the handsets, so that the numbers we want to come through without being rejected by the VTech system. Once a number & name is entered into this database, the call will come through. If the number is not in the list, the caller will receive a message asking them to press the "#" in order for their call to be received by us. There are other options available that allow for various levels of security, again, based upon the needs of the person who has the system. Like most phone systems, a person can add a message for those wanting to leave as voice mail. The phone holds up to 22 minutes of messages, and that should be sufficient for our use. Another feature that I really like is that a handset can be used a very long range from the base. According to the product description, the handset can be used "up to 2300 feet" from the base. The distance would be dependent on the structure of the house, the walls, and probably the terrain in the 2300 feet. 0That's almost 1/2 mile. I have not tested this as yet, but my mailbox is about 1/4 from the house, so I will find out whether that works for me or not. Frankly, whether it does is not an issue, since the handset would not normally be used more than 100 feet from the house when I working in the yard or garden. Finally, the base has a screen that is 3.5 inches long and about 1.5 inches tall. The handsets have a 2 inch screen. Also, the lettering on the screens, especially the base, is large, very large. Seniors and individuals who are somewhat nearsighted should not have major issues seeing the screens. As one who is in both categories, the screens are very readable for me. BOTTOM LINE: This is one great phone system. It replaces a Panasonic system that I had for many years that also had 5 handsets, but did not have as many features. The pricing for this system is very competitive, and we are thoroughly satisfied with it. It also comes in versions with 3 and 4 handsets. I would order the VTech phone system again, and will probably order 2 - 3 more handsets for the apartment in our 1st floor basement.

Awesome landline phone system with features you never knew you needed until you have them!
I love this phone, wow such amazing features, most I didn't realize I was missing until I bought this system. I honestly didn't need 5 phones, but for the extra $10 figured I would keep one as a spare, since spare phones cost way more than $10. For the price of the phone, it was indeed a value. I wanted a phone system with long range capability and this was the only phone offered through Amazon with this feature. I tried to talk myself out of it and literally spent 3 days looking at phones, features, reviews and price, before I chose this phone. It honestly shouldn't have been a question of buying it, but if I have learned nothing from my employer, it's to do your due diligence when making a significant purchase. To be honest, I am loving the call screening!! The amount of phone calls coming into my house phone has been reduced by at least 80-90%, and that is no exaggeration. Also, once you have received a call and added them to your approved list, they never have to leave their name again, it just rings them right through. But, don't make the mistake I did when I first started, I was immediately pressing "1", and this only allows that one call, not any future calls, you must press "2", to approve that caller indefinitely. I was being too quick with my selection and didn't finish listening to the options, and only found my mistake when I couldn't quickly press "1" and heard option "2" was the option I really wanted. Another feature I didn't know I needed, was importing my cell phone address book directly into the phone!! Wow what a time saver, unfortunately it doesn't sync with the screening, but that is just a minor detail. Being able to answer my cell phone through the phone was another added surprise as well, and you can even add a second cell phone!! WOW, mind blown. The phones also came with a belt clip which was yet another feature that doesn't come standard with many or any other phones that I researched. This was yet another feature I didn't know I was missing out on, but I am loving that each phone has a belt clip. A reason I was wanting a long range phone is that my house was built in the 1950's, when houses were actually built solid, almost a little too solid, lol. It is very hard to get reception in my bedroom, which is the furthest from the base unit, but with this phone I can hear and be heard even out in my front yard on the parkway!! Thank you Vtech for making this awesome phone. Living in a stucco house is like living in a faraday cage when it comes to cell phones or wireless anything, well in my house anyway, it had become so frustrating with my old phone that I was beyond done, but this phone is AMAZING!! I am sure I sound like a cuckoo when it comes to the amazing features offered on this phone, and my old phone was maybe 5-7 years old, at most, but Bluetooth, call screening, cell phone address book access, etc. wasn't something offered back then and if it was I guess I didn't want to pay the extra for it. I am not the most tech savvy person by any means, but this phone is so easy to use it made me feel like a rock star. So, if you have read this far through my review, what are you waiting for? Buy this phone and prepare to be blown away!! I was not paid to write this review, I paid about $160-190 for this system and it is worth every penny and more.

Excellent phone for problematic situations (long distances, interference, visual or auditory issues)
I'm not a sophisticated user of this tech. I use a VOIP line for a home phone and connect the base unit using a standard telephone cord. I'll probably never use many of the features, so I can't address them in this review. The good: Easy setup for basic use; Wizards for things like the call blocker. Excellent connections between handsets across the approximately 30m x 30m (100' x 100') covered by my floorplan, even while passing through concrete walls with wire mesh within (think incomplete Faraday cage). Display is very easy to read, with large type and backlighting when in use. Voice connections are dependable and plenty loud enough. Should be a good phone for those with visual or auditory issues. The bad: First, the clock has twice moved its time forward an hour. It seems to have stopped doing so when I turned off the option to update it based on Caller-ID (or something of the sort: idr exactly). Second, one of the main reasons to use a multi-handset system like this is for the room-to-room intercom system. This has two. The PTT (Push To Talk) walkie-talkie style one works great and takes a couple of button-presses to activate (Hit PTT, scroll to the desired extension, hit Select). But for some reason, the Intercom function (standard phone-type conversation rather than walkie-talkie style) requires either 6 button-presses (before you even get to select an extension) if you go thru the menu, or 3 if you start with the Flash button. This is why this review is 4 stars rather than 5. Seems like bad design for something so basic. All in all, a solid product for basic phone use. Has lots of bells and whistles if you want or need them.

VTech Handset
Excellent price and one of the best cordless phones I have owned. Excellent price for 5 handsets and very easy to program. Very clear voice and messages. Absolute love the talking phone feature.

A great buy for the cost
The phones work well. The long range feature allows me to take the phone into the porch and into the yard when I go outdoors.

Meh.
The sound quality is disappointing. Tiny speakers inside thin plastic handsets result in an echo-y, cheap sound with virtually no low frequencies. The automatic gain control on the microphone is slow to adjust. People on the other end of the call say they can barely hear me for the first several seconds of a call before the amplification adjusts to a reasonable level. The handset shape is awkward. The push-to-talk and the mysterious "voice" buttons on the edge are placed exactly where you'll be guaranteed to press them unintentionally when you're just trying the hold the phone. You can't place it face down on the desk when you're using it as a speaker phone, even though the speaker grill is on the back. It seems unnecessarily tall and skinny The UI isn't very responsive. You won't be able to quickly flip through your stored contacts to find the number you want to call, no even after the extra keypress required to access the contacts after you select your contact list. The base unit display reports every call as a "missed call" regardless of whether you answered it. The clock runs slowly, losing about a minute each day or two. The base station needs more substantial rubber feet. If you try to press a button, the entire unit just slides across the desk. The range is very impressive. I haven't experienced any WiFi interference (which was the only reason we sought to replace our old 5GHz system). I was pleasantly surprised that the base unit remained functional during a power outage. I'm guessing some functionality was lost during the outage, but I was still able to make and receive calls.

Minimum instructions, cannot name intercom stations. Deceptive order page! 5 phones do not work!
I just installed this, so I am waiting to see what else works or not. First off, I have 5 handsets that are not connecting. So, if they do not work, I am out $100 of phones, and rooms needing a handset are empty. 3 handsets have nearly dead batteries. All need serious recharging. The instructions do not even mention intercom. You can not name them. How am I to remember what number station is in what room of the house? This is important to us because we are not well and need to communicate easily. Also, it is not true that you can FULLY add additional hand sets. When paging all the handsets, only the first 4 are paged. The remaining handsets are ignored. It is obvious that this set was intended to only use the 5 hand sets, any extra are not fully integrated. I just found out why the 5 handsets are not connecting. I needed to order extra handsets. On the page to order them were options for 1, 3, & 5 phones. What I did not notice was that the options for more than one included a base set. The handsets supplied with a base set are not compatible with a different base set. They failed to mention that. To me, this was similar to a bait and switch. They literally lured me into buying over a hundred dollars of stuff I can not use. This really seems stupid to me, because I have used a lot of remote units and they are always interchangeable, when possible. Its not a security issue because they learn from specific units. I have one of their add on units, and it does work how it should! Why not all? Reducing stars to minimum for deceiving me. I have since learned that some vtech hand sets can be unregistered. There does not seem to be an option for this set. Unless you have an urgent need for a specification only found on these phones, I suggest looking at a different brand. DO NOT BUY PANASONIC either! They have known issues for having the screen going permanently blank! I know this for a fact! Update. The batteries in most of the units I have will not charge. They were nearly or completely dead on arrival. I am ordering new batteries to replace them. This was one of the worst purchases I ever made. It is obvious that the units were left sitting on a shelf for a very long time! You should also know that the phones I have are from 3 separate packages. This is not just a random error. Just now, 2 of the handsets are not connecting to the main station. One of them may be due to a bad battery. The other, I have yet to determine. I will be reinstalling my old, half working Panasonic set to supplement it, backup and use as an intercom. Another update: Two of the handsets lost connection with the base. I removed the batteries and reinstalled. That fixed them. This should never have happened!

Excellent Expandable VOIP / Mobile Cordless Phone System
I bought this Vtech phone through an Amazon Warehouse deal at $57. This price for a 5 handset system was over 57% off, an excellent price point. This was an open box item (probably returned) that worked as advertised. I also added a sixth handset via a separate purchase. The phone system offers many features that require you to read the manual to take full advantage of the system. Several features that I really like are: 1: very nice looking, with a modern touch. 2. The handset fits nicely in the hand and is easy to hold with excellent volume and clarity. 3. The call screening is powerful with over 5 options to automatically screen out robo calls, telemarketers, etc. while letting other known numbers or known names (like your pharmacy or doctor) to get through the screen. It works very well. 4. You can upload up to 4,000 names from multiple cell contact directories plus you can add other numbers to a separate phone directory. I loaded about 200 names from my iPhone cell phone contacts app very easily. 5. You can automatically block a number through a single key stroke. 6. You can link two separate cell phones to the system via bluetooth connections. What this means is I can send and receive cell phone calls through the system handsets without needing my cell phone. So if my cell phone is left in my office on the first floor, I can take a call from my basement handset or send a call with needing my cell phone. 7. When you are away, you can call your Vtech voice mail system remotely to get messages. 8. The phone has a flashing light that goes off as well as the normal ringer, so you can see and hear when a call comes in. 9. I can use Siri through this phone (if it is linked to my cell phone). 10. There is a built in handset intercom that you can call from one handset to another or a general broadcast to all handsets. 11. The system supports VOIP so I can still use my Vonage account, and 12. Adding a new handset was drop dead easy, simply power up the phone and set it into the base station and it is automatically registered. This system is very expandable and supports up to 12 handsets (I have six). All in all an excellent phone system even at the full price. I would recommend this Vtech phone systemn if you are in the market for a new system.

Love this phone system!!!
I would highly recommend this phone. I have had vetch phone systems before and they were good. This one stands out not only for all of its amazing options but for the hand set itself. It’s not light and flimsy, It has just the right weight and it’s very comfortable to hold up when talking. I love the sleek look and although I probably only use a few of the added features, one of my favourites is connecting my cell to the phone system. We do not get good cell signal in the country and NOW I can actually answer when someone calls me on my cell while at home. Great Buy!

Very poor quality
Very poor quality hardware. Almost all the power plugs blew up when connected to a normal 220V supply despite being rated for 110-240V. The quality of the plugs looked extremely cheap and made of very poor quality plastic. Extremely shoddy manufacturing process.

Very Good System, steep initial learning curve.
We were a little concerned about the sound quality based on some reviews. The sound quality is very good, at least as good as our wired land line phones. Overall we are quite pleased with the system. We bought this particular system for the Smart Block which seems to be working well with 2 weeks experience. Pros: Sound is excellent. System is smart and attractive. Smart Block is working well based on 2 weeks experience. Customer service is good, we called with set up questions (see below) Cons: Learning curve is steep, I am a 75 yr old engineer with 28 yrs experience with my local phone company and setting it up was challenging. Read the instructions closely before starting and follow them closely. The instructions are good but could be more informative. Phone Book must be manually loaded using the ABC DEF dial. I had hoped that uploading my cell phone book would be good, but the cell address book and the Phone Book are different and one can NOT be transferred to the other. The Phone Book is important as these are the numbers Smart Block will let through without screening. There is no search feature on the Phone Book, ours has about 100 entries, so using it do dial can be frustrating. We solved the problem by prefixing the name with 1, 1Arthur, 1Chris. Then the 12 or so numbers we regularly call appear first. Phone charges cannot be wall mounted, I made a little shelf for the laundry room, the base station can be wall mounted with the plate provided. I have not used it. Bottom line I would buy it again and recommend it but be prepared for some initial set up work.
