If you’re cutting or hurting yourself you’re not alone. Thousands of teens across the country think that hurting themselves is the only way they can feel better, even though they continue to feel alone and out of control. There are a lot of reasons why teens hurt themselves. None of them are your fault. You can’t change your past, but there is a lot you can do, right now, to make your future a place you’d like to spend some time, a place free from the pain, loneliness and isolation of cutting. This workbook offers a great way for you to make it happen. The exercises in Stopping the Pain will help you explore why you self-injure and give you lots of ideas how you can stop. The book will help you learn new skills for dealing with issues in your life, reduce your stress, and reach out to others when you need to. Work through the book, or just check out the sections that speak to you the most. This is your own personal and private road map to regaining control of your life. Review: Excellent book for therapy and strategies and help, would higly recommend this book, and, others in this series! Professional! - This is not the first book in this series that we have ordered from desertcart. There is a reason we continue to use this series, and, taht is because it is top notch! These books are written by good Psychologists, Therapists and/or Psychiatrists, and offer insights into various problems with mental health in particular and young people, that I wouldn't think of on my own, (deeper in the problem, all aspects of issues are covered and touched on in detail to really help all of the people that use it). They are absolutely EXCELLENT therapy! All therapies that are in these workbooks can be used in steps by a Therapist as well, and, in some cases with some disorders, rather comorbid or primary; in this case particularly, 'cutting', may be extremely 'private', and, parents or those caring for a child my have difficulty getting the child to accept help from a Therapist or Dr., when this is happening, (HOWEVER, this book alone can work as a great stepping stone to later accept even more help and help them cope with this issue and even get it out of the way and on to living a much more healthy life!) We have a family friend that had this problem with her Daughter, and, this book was a catalyst to helping her accept the help that she was refusing before, because this might be VERY PRIVATE, for them, and, the book allows them to take the information that on some level they want and know they need; and start the steps, to getting things better for them. It worked in this young girls case. This was comorbid to something else in our case, so we didn't have as much of the private with this, which was better, but didn't take away at all from the absolute usefullness of this book! Highly recommended! Review: Self harm workbook - Love this book with a helpful hints I can use for my clients. It’s a great book

This book was recommended by my friend who is a psycho therapist and a Christian. I bought it to help me understand how to help my teen granddaughter and have now passed it on to her hoping it will help her deal with her feelings in healthier ways. It has given me a clearer understanding of why she cuts and how I can respond. The negative...later in the workbook previous pages are referred to but the page numbers are incorrect. I am glad I read through the book and was able to make corrections before giving the book to my granddaughter, hopefully avoiding confusion for her.

Check, see, order, make an appointment asap. For them and you.
I don't care how happy kids seem, if they wear long sleeves all the time, afraid to be seen in underwear, it's time to check for cutting. Cutting can quickly become an addiction. They may not even feel the need to alleviate emotional pain. They just feel they need. It's absolutely no different than drugs. So try and find ways to check without looking like your checking. Arms, stomach thighs legs, anywhere normally covered by clothes. Look ANYWHERE if you have to. Once it starts, it's one of the most difficult and sensitive things to get them to stop. Not to mention dangerous. But don't freak out. Try and understand why, be open, get counseling for your teen, AND YOURSELF. You may not think you need it, but you will. Trust me. It effects you in ways you never thought possible. And it's hard to understand. To be in so much pain, you would disfigure yourself to replace emotional pain with physical pain. (Trust me, I know, I used to cut clear to my mid 20's) you have to get help for your teen and yourself. You have to. Because it's not going to stop on its own. It's not a phase. This book is just the first step. The first of many. Check, see, order, make an appointment asap.

The First Step
I bought this book within a few weeks of my first SI. I guess I knew cutting wasn't the best way to handle my I ssues. All I wanted was to stop the pain. I Googled the titile before I ever knew there was a book. I didn't tell my parents about it when it came. In fact, it sat on my shelf in my room for almost two months, unwritten in. During that time I would look through it occasionally when I was having a craving, it would sometimes help. The first few chapters says that its important to tell someone. No one knew for the longest time. I scared my self badly enough one day after I SIed that I brought the book to my parents. Since then I've worked through some of the chapters. I'd be lying if I told you it was "the cure" that my parents seem to think it is. I still cut, or slam my self into corners, 3 or 4 times a week. -which is actually an improvement. Its going to take a lot more than just a workbook to overcome this. As parents with kids who do what I do and have this book, look through their the book with them and talk about their SI with it....just because they don't say anything about it, or you don't see their scars, doesn't mean it went away. It means they're getting better at hiding it - wheather they want to or not. Act like you care. Don't freak out or pretend its not their. Either way won't work. Its a good book. - for anyone out there looking for a way to stop...this book can help. Even if you don't want to stop,(like me) it will still give you something to think about. Good luck to everyone, and wish me the same.

Very helpful for the process, but don't expect a right-away cure
My mom bought this book for me to work through the behavior. The book is very detailed with it's problem-solving motives, and it acquires skills that I needed to work on in order to stop the negative behavior patterns. Although it didn't stop right away, I see now small, but in the long run, great improvements that this book has helped with along the way. The daily chapters are prominent in meaningful ways to guide me through the process of letting go of the pain. It didn't happen overnight of course, what does? But it's resources slowly weaved their way through my mind, and for the first time, I wanted to stop the pain. That motivation is what I needed, and now, the negative behavior is still not completely erased, but I now know I can work to stop it, no matter how long it takes. Overall, this is a great buy for any cutter, burner, etc. Whether they are your child, cousin, niece or nephew, this was a very helpful book for my journey, and I believe it will be for theirs as well.

I'm a therapist and use this workbook with adolescent clients. In addition to addressing self-harm, the workbook also addresses body image and assertiveness. It's easy to understand and a very helpful tool for building concrete skills. I also find this book to work really well for DBT skills.

Best I've found so far
This book is probably the best book on self harm I've found to use with young people. There is a huge lack of resource on this subject. However this one has worksheets, a body map, I wouldnt say it's particularly CBT or DBT based but it's certainly a very helpful book that's helps to open up discussion each week after someone has completed the chapter. If you are doing it on yr own I could see how it would be thought provoking and motivating.

Indispensable
