It says 7" is the length of the blade. The blade is the part that cuts. Sadly, I did not receive a 7" blade but a 3 & 3/8" blade. The length of the whole blade + the handle is approximately 8". The length in which they open up completely where they rest on the thumb guards is 7". I'm planning to refute the product due to this problem and see if they'll send me the proper blade length because I didn't get what was advertised. Just be wary. The size of the finger holes is 7/8" in diameter. I hope this info helps. ps. they ship from hong kong despite me thinking they were from Japan since they claim to use "Japanese steel".

Can they be used to trim poodle hair?

I have an English Angora rabbit I think their hair(fur) is about the same so I would say yes.

Sharp and functional

Where do I begin? Maybe at the part that these scissors are super sharp and the curve makes it easy to trim. I am not a professional groomer, which was evident when these super sharp scissors met my puppies tongue when she stuck it out as I was trimming UNDER her chin. Slices like butter. She is fine, and I'll continue to remember these scissors forever :) I haven't done a full trim with them yet, but they seem as though they will be durable and otherwise safe to use!
