I sprayed some of this on my new pair of Hoka shoes since they are very light colored. Following the directions, I masked off the non-breathing material, It is especially to avoid spraying the bottom of the shoe, because once you spray even one coat on something that isn't porous, this will become so slick. It would actually be a slip hazard if you have any of this on the bottom of your shoes. After I sprayed one coat I let it dry for a couple days before I sprayed the second coat. In my mind, two thin layers are always better than one heavy coat. Once my scotchgard got good and dry, I removed the tape and then the following day it was raining outside. I was quite impressed how well this repelled the water. I've been wearing these shoes outside often and they look as new as I got them still. I have a spray booth so I did not notice the odor. I consider this to have good effectiveness. It's too early to say on the durability on how long this will last. I will update the review accordingly. I was careful not to spray so I do not know about the residue. I consider this to be a good value since it will keep my shoes clean and I'm not sure how many shoes I will be able to do with one can.

I used this Scotchgard Fabric Water Shield on a light beige upholstered ottoman that gets daily use in my living room. Since the fabric is a very light color, I wanted to add some protection before spills and stains became a problem. The can arrived in good condition, and the spray nozzle worked perfectly without clogging or dripping. Application was simple, and the spray distributed evenly across the fabric. After drying, I didn’t notice any discoloration, residue, or change in the appearance of the material. The fabric still feels soft and natural to the touch, which was important to me. What impressed me most is that liquids now bead up much better on the surface instead of immediately soaking in. It provides extra peace of mind around drinks, pets, and everyday accidents. The main downside is the strong odor while applying the product. You’ll definitely want good ventilation and some drying time before using the furniture again. One very important thing to note: be extremely careful not to overspray onto the floor. My ottoman sits on a marble floor, and any overspray that lands on smooth surfaces can make them surprisingly slippery. If you’re using this indoors, I highly recommend placing a drop cloth, cardboard, or old sheet underneath the furniture before spraying. Overall, this product did exactly what I hoped it would do. It’s easy to use, doesn’t alter the look or feel of the fabric, and seems well worth the money for protecting furniture from everyday wear and spills. 4 out of 5 stars because of the strong smell and the need to be extra careful around flooring during application

Works like an invisible shield especially by protecting suede shoes, even coats. Have sprayed on my UGGs for 40+ yrs. Anytime we make a velvet-like sofa purchase, no one’s allowed to sit on it before we protect it with this product. Spills/stains slide right off. Always keep a couple cans in the house.

3M has a great reputation and this product matched that reputation. I purchased this in store many times before and now purchasing online as many stores dont carry it anymore. The product performs as described, creating a great fabric shield without ANY white residue. Living in a dry climate, shoes are always getting super dirty even when its not raining so I spray on all our non-leather shoes to deter dust buildup. Even on black fabric shoes from the four letter brand that rhymes with mocha, I sprayed two layers and letting each layer dry overnight before reapplying, and not a single speck of white residue was present after air drying. Hint - place shoes on a plastic bag or grease proof paper before spraying as the "overspray" will become slickery where it lands. The quantity in the 13.5 container is enough to give 6 pairs of adult sized fabric shoes two coats each. The price is moderate for the quality. The spray bottle is high gloss finish so if you have small hands or arthritis it may slip out of hand during use. The cap comes of and goes back on easily. When using spray the odor is not throat clenching or overpowerful. I spray the shoes in the garage and keep them in garage overnight so the odor is minimal. I would recommend this product, and will purchase again.
