I have the micro and the pro and this. The others are good the pro mic is my favorite. This ME barely makes any difference on my Note 8 S4 Active or my iPad mini. It is disappointing considering I spent way more money on this when I could have purchased several cheaper alternatives that work better. Loved the convenience of just plugging it into a phone with a firm attachment but it does very little to improve the audio. I added a foam cover it did not come with one. UPDATE: I purchased this mic 3 years ago. It did very little in terms of performance. Here i am updating this review 3 years later. This mic sat around for 3 years as a paper weight since I did not use it because of its poor performance. A friend was doing a wedding shoot and asked to borrow several mics. This was one of them for a cellphone used to record video to straight post to social media. She told me the sound was great. I said what? I checked out the videos and they had good sound. This made me test this mic on my phones and tablets all over again. WTH. The audio was improved. You can hear a noticeable difference. After further tests it seems either several FW updates later on my devices cleared whatever issue there was or tossing it around all these years fixed something. 🤔 I would have returned it but threw the box away. Not sure what happened but the audio is much better and recording volume is actually boosted too. 😲 It sounds good.

It does pic up the noise of the wind generated by the fan, but with the "Dead Cat" on, you couldn't hear the wind from the ceiling fan and it even improved the overall quality of the audio recording. The product feels quite sturdy to the touch and should last you for a long time! The stabilizer that is included just slips onto the back of the mic and will help prevent the mic from spinning around while in use. One star off because the mic won't work with the Otter Box I have around my Galaxy S8+ coupled with the fact that Rode does not have Android versions of its in-house smartphone software to assist you in getting better audio quality from your mic. You'll have to find another program (which there are loads). If you have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod that DOES NOT have a headphone jack, you will have to buy an adapter to make this work (even though the box explicitly states for use with iPhone and iPad). Another quality product from Rode that I think will help the average consumer achieve better audio quality with their smartphones!

I purchased the Rode VideoMic Me for professional use on a iPhone 6s, both for broadcasting public events and interviews on live social media feeds and for capturing video to edit and share for other purposes. A local TV anchor pointed out after a major Facebook Live broadcast that the standard iPhone mic was picking up a lot of wind and creating audio problems. Knowing the Rode brand and finding this comes with a windscreen (plus several YouTube reviews showing people using it outside) I had hoped to be able to use this to upgrade our production value at future outdoor events at off-site locations. Yes, the sound quality is an improvement over the standard cell phone mic. Unfortunately these benefits are completely wiped away by a loud and abrasive whining and clicking that interrupts the audio. Activating airplane mode addresses this audio feedback issue, but that makes this mobile phone attachment useless for live broadcasting anywhere a strong wi-fi signal is not available. There also doesn't appear to be a way to get the headphone jack to pass through audio for monitoring purposes using the standard iPhone photo/video app. So if you forget to switch to airplane mode when recording, there is no way to tell if your audio is ruined until you review it after the shot is over. Rode has a great reputation but this product has a number of critical flaws. Overall very disappointed.

I was looking for a way to upgrade the audio for my videos, before this I just had a little lav mic. Despite the good reviews, I really wasn't expecting too much from this mic, it's one of the shortest shotgun mics I've seen so couldn't imagine it would make that much of a difference. To my surprise this mic works very well and does make a significant difference in the audio quality of the videos. It's not perfect, if the mic is far away from you it will pick up some room noise / echo, but I have mine about 3-5 feet away and the difference of this mic vs the internal one is night and day. One suggestion I have, with any shotgun, is to point it at your chest below your chin and not directly at your mouth, gives a richer more even tone. Pros: SUPER easy to use Included windscreen is very effective in outdoor scenarios Compact and easily portable Great sound quality Cons: I'm not taking any stars off for this, since the mic specifically says for iPhone, but I could not get it to work with Android devices. I've read other reviews that stated it could be used with Android, but I had no luck in that area even using several different recording apps.

I run a YouTube channel (Sola Gratia Life, if you're interested) and just got this to improve my video's audio quality. It works great on my android phone for making short reels, but the bread and butter of my channel are long-form educational/vlogging hybrid type of video's, which I can get away with creating on my phone as well, but other content I want to grow is my livestreaming episodes with guest interviews... this is where I need my laptop. My PC laptop has a headphone input but no mic input. The Rode VideoMic does not fit into the headset input. To avoid buying another $1100 computer I may have to buy a USB audio input system (such as for podcast and radio recordings) to male this work... and there's no guarantee right now that's the solution because I don't have the technical knowledge to predict that. So potentially there's more hassle involved with product returns, more research to find a viable solution for my needs and budget, etc. Not sure if it's worth it yet. It will be for me if I can have good quality audio for my little channel for under $100 but so far what I got is a great little mic with a trusted brand that I can use for some projects, but not much to show for it with others. I'd give this product 5 stars if it came with some kind of multi-connection adapter.

I bought this because I needed something for my cell phone to reduce or eliminate wind noise from my cell phone videos. A fur wind screen works extremely well for this, but is difficult to adapt to a cell phone microphone so this mic looked promising. I am using it on an Motorola Android phone and when the microphone was mounted to the cell phone as originally designed, it ended up being in the picture so I got a 4 pole TRRS 3' extension cable and mounted the mic remotely on another camera that was away from the cell phone. I needed to also replace the stock camera app on my phone with the "Open Camera" app from the Play Store and under Video Settings enable Audio Source -> "External Mic (if present). With all that, the mic and supplied wind screen eliminates all the wind noise from my videos. The "Open Camera" app also allowed me to manually control the camera so that was a bonus. Like all the other Rode products I have, it is well made, too.

2-1/2 stars ... I have a Rode NT1 in my home studio and use it almost every day recording voice over auditions. I was very pleased to see Rode was making a mic for smartphones since the standard iPhone mic isnt very good, making urgent auditioning when I am away from home almost pointless. This mic is a slight improvement over the iPhone mic -- less background noise provided by the more tightly directional pick up range -- but the overall sound quality is below the standard I expected from Rode, even at this price point. Very little dynamic range (regardless of the specs given by Rode) leaves everything sounding thin, and while ambient noise is reduced compared to the built-in iPhone mic, the Rode itself has a slight hum. This has been attributed to poor shielding so perhaps less of an issue field recording away from computers and electromagnetic fields. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this mic, but its obvious from other reviews that it succeeds for many users. **UPDATE** Purchased the Shure MV88 ... $80 more but an investment well worth the money in terms of sound quality, and the app developed for use with the mic is rather nifty as well.

Il "dead hamster" (dato che come gatto sarebbe un po' piccolo) è una spugnetta rivestita di pelo e sagomata per fissarsi saldamente sul corpo del microfono tramite un anello di gomma (un po' macchinoso da installare bene, dato che entra veramente stretto nella sua scanalatura, ma sicuramente difficile da perdere una volta in posizione). Avviso: l'uscita posteriore con il jack da 3.5mm per le cuffie non è gestita dal microfono, ma fa solo da ponte per l'audio in uscita del telefono. Tradotto: non potete ascoltare in tempo reale l'audio che state registrando direttamente dal microfono. Per farlo avete bisogno di un'applicazione che supporti questa funzione di registrazione-riproduzione combinata. Il microfono poi prende l'energia necessaria al suo funzionamento dal telefono. Questo significa che se montato su supporti da cui non riesce a trarre energia, come ad esempio una normale presa microfono tipo quella del pc, risulterà muto. Ad ogni modo, l'ho portato a spasso durante una partita di softair nei boschi. La direzionalità del microfono (in ambiente esterno, quindi senza riverberi) è ottima. Io ci parlavo da dietro, a voce più alta del normale da una ventina di cm, e comunque si sentiva molto più chiaramente chi gli parlava da davanti, anche da qualche metro di distanza. Viene da sè che anche tutti i disturbi tipici dei video registrati nel mezzo dei boschi sono risultati notevolmente ridotti, soprattutto il vento, filtrato egregiamente dal criceto morto in dotazione. Un bel passo in avanti rispetto all'audio standard di uno smartphone, anche se di fascia alta.

This is a review of the item itself. Not a review of service/packaging/delivery etc. I have had this mic for a couple of months now and i love it. If you are looking to improve the audio quality of your smartphone movies, you can't go wrong with this mic. I have used it on an iphone 6s, 6s+ as well as a samsung galaxy s7 edge and it works PERFECTLY. The audio quality is exactly what you would expect from a rode product i.e. second to none ! PLEASE NOTE, the mic does stick out from the phone (totes obvs) so its PROBABLY not recommended for phones where the mic and camera are next to each other as you might see the mic in your shot. The sound quality is crisp and clean and not muffled in any way shape or form. The difference over built in mics are night and day. This is a directional shotgun mic so sounds coming from the sides or behind the mic are greatly reduced as you'd hope and expect from a shotgun mic. I own a few rode mics and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone! Pair this mic with a moondogs anamorphic lens and you have yourself a powerhouse of a camera for some indie/run 'n' gun style videography ! I have read that a few people have had issues with a weird clicking sound during recording. This can be the case but the solution to rectify is simple. Put your phone into airplane mode ! The wifi or radio in mobile devices is what can cause this. Have you ever had your mobile next to a speaker and you hear that weird noise ? same thing here.

Greetings, this little mic is exceptional. To be honest i was a bit skeptical when i ordered, but was willing to try and hoped it would improve the audio capture on my phone. First, the build quality is extremely good. Also the little secondary piece that sandwiches the the phone between the TRRS plug and the phone really helps to stabilize the connection. After trying the mic a few times i was amazed at the quality of what it captured. Even with the subject 6-8' away, the sound was very good and did not change the tones and ranges of the voice at all. The polar pattern of this mic is very good and the sound rejection from the back of the mic is great. In other-words, i could be talking while holding the phone (mic pointed away from me at the subject) and i'm guessing approx. 75-85% of my voice's volume is rejected so any small noises coming from behind the mic would be rejected nicely. Also, i do not hear any noticeable hiss coming from this mic. The mic came with a good quality dead cat that works very well, while still maintaining good crisp mid and high frequencies. I would buy this mic again.
