Great little cheap light
I purchased this light for a little 3 gallon tank I set up on my desk at work. I planted one of those climbing house plant vines along with a flame sword from my 125gal home tank. The flame sword is doing much better than I expected and the houseplant vine is going absolutely nuts. I had to reduce the brightness and duration of lighting due to some algae growth, but I did the same thing to my FluvalSmart 3.0 lights for my 125 gallon. It saves the settings when you lose power, except for the time resets. All I had to do is set up the time and it went right back to working fine. NOTE: I am running this light in “diy” mode according to the manual. I step up the light from 0 to a max of 70% and eliminate the blue moonlight mode because the blue light will cause algae. This is not specific to this light, as I do the same with my FluvalSmart 3.0. I just wanted to throw in that piece of advice! You will love this little lamp. The controls are a little odd, but the manual explains it pretty well. You can see everything is potted in epoxy so this should be VERY waterproof. I have not tested this function YET though lol. This is a great little light for the price and I will be buying more when I set up my next tank or when one of my other lights die. Update: After having this light for a while I thought I thought I give an update. Still an AMAZING little light that I can't recommend enough. I included an updated picture of my tank since the plants have grown out some. I wound up settling on DIY mode @ 50% brightness for 7 hours per day.

Bright LED’s, tricky instructions
Overall this is a really good light, especially for the price. The build quality feels solid, and the brackets to mount on to the aquarium are sturdy. Initial setup was fairly straight forward. I set up the time and allowed the automated cycle to do its thing. In the auto mode, the brightness in the afternoon goes to 100% which for this light is really really bright. This also makes the light get super hot, which kind of concerned me. If you’re trying to set up a high light tank, this would probably work. My plants are less demanding however, and I was afraid this would lead to a massive algae bloom, so I wanted to dim the lights down a little using the custom function. This is where it got tricky! Following the instructions to the letter will lead to frustration because it will not work! I tried time and time again, and each time after entering my parameters it would go back to 100% brightness and not turn off at night. I was ready to buy a different light when I read the description here on the Amazon page with the solution. After setting up your custom light parameters, you must reset the clock for some reason. After that it’ll work flawlessly. This isn’t intuitive, and it’s not in the manual. Hopefully this review will help anyone else struggling with this. Lastly I’ll say that while the lights are bright and the color spectrum is really good, they do aim straight down. My tank is 16” wide (standard 5.5 gallon) so I opted for the smallest size. The light fixture is 10.5” wide, and really only illuminates straight below it. Some nicer lights like the ones on my 55 gallon will have a wider field of light to help illuminate the front and sides of the tank better. For the price though this is to be expected. Overall I’m very pleased now that I got it to work.

Super great light at a good price
Updating my review. This light is phenomenal. The programming is a bit clunky, but once you get it figured out it's not hard. Aside from that it's hard to beat this light in terms of quality and value. I've been running this for 4 years now over a rimless tank and it gets enough splatter from the HOB filter to have developed a crust from the mineral deposits, but it just keeps on going and going coming on every morning without fail. Great light Hygger!

Powerful light option
I have a terrarium and most 20 watt lights didn’t have the legs that straddle the tank or you’d have to do 2 of them which was more expensive than this - it’s a pretty powerful light! Setting it up wasn’t my cup of tea I have moonlight function completely off for ease of use and then day light on is when it turns on day light off is when it turns off but getting there is weird and unreliable

Nice but a little complicated for me
This light is really good quality. The only issue for me is that I found creating a custom timer program a pain but that’s just me - no reason not to buy it if you don’t mind messing with it, and certainly no reason to reduce my review by a star. Setting the actual time of day was easy. The factory default for the timer is ON at 6:30AM, OFF at 6:30PM. After giving up on setting my own program I had trouble getting it back to the default so I emailed the manufacturer and they responded right away. That in itself is enough to make me buy this brand again. I really like that it gradually brightens/dims to full on/off and doesn’t jolt the poor fish.

Update 2: Replacement received; Update: After a month digital display is dead
Update 2: the seller was quick to issue a replacement for the damaged unit. Update: after a month and some moisture accumulation under the transparent lid of the digital display, the display died. The unit still works as far as lighting functions are concerned. But it is now impossible to program the unit, since the display is dead. I guess it is not IP-67/68 as advertised after all. The light is definitely bright compared to other led lights in the same price category. The 20W 12-18 in version I bought is quite capable of penetrating my Aqueon Column 15 all the way to the bottom when placed close to the water under the hood. That is 18 in down for a 13 in x 13 in footprint. However, the light does run hot. 60-70C? You can plug it into 12 V rather than 15 V DC adapter, and it will still work. It won’t be as hot or bright though. Overall, it seems that the light is a good choice for under-the-hood placement in a small planted tank. Timer, brightness and IP68 comprise a winning combination. As noted in other reviews: yes, instruction manual is confusing.

Its a budget light
Ive been using this light for over 6 months. This is a great product for someone looking for a decently bright light with built in timer and dimmer functionality. It grows easy plants well, but doesnt do so well with moderate to high light plants. Its also low, so if you have a lid(the one with the black in the middle) the light doesnt distribute to the front and back evenly. Get the leg extensions. The color tone is also bad if aesthetics if your thing. Its much to warm. Again, its a budget light so its nothing like the quality you get from a chihiros for example. Id probably pay a little extra and get the twinstar b and get the optional timer/dimmer attachment. But thats just me. Hope this helps.
