New to Los Angeles, Roxanne Donally dresses mannequins at her day job, when she isnโt bombing movie auditions and drawing pictures of her landladyโs cat. Definitely no way to find stardom, or Prince Charming either, for that matter. And then a casual suggestion from a friend catapults Roxanne into an uncertain world. A world where this girl in Hollywood who canโt act, or find a real boyfriend, discovers that high-fashion modeling might be just her thing. From ROXANNE IN LA LA LAND: "Shiny people fill the crystal ballroom. Women glitter and move through men in a strange slow-motion ballet. Is this a James Bond movie? Am I Roxanne Donally from Castle Rock, Washington? I feel elegant for a second, then I notice the loose strings on my eyelet lace top, and my distressed jeans look dirty and old. And what is my hair doing? I pull and twist it around my neck, just in case. I look at Dave for reassurance. Does he still think I'm cool next to all these diamonds?" Review: Just so much fun - The style of writing in Roxanne in La La Land is so much fun. I read the entire thing in a few hours and when I turned the last page (can you do that on a Kindle?) wanted the story to go on and on. Roxanne is quirky and just fun to know. I kept wishing I knew her in real life. Also, it is refreshing to read a story where the main character has moral values. Review: Not All That Light, Actually - Roxanne starts out trying to become a Hollywood star. She supports herself by clerking in a store while attending numerous tryouts. She is pretty, but freezes up when she gets onstage. During the course of events she discovers she has a rare talent for modeling and becomes an almost instant success, as a modest teenage model who will not pose naked. During a whirlwind trip to New York amid the highly charged world of runway shows, she discovers booze and sex, and looses her inhibitions. Her sudden change of character may put off some readers. However Roxanne's unpleasant experience with the effects of alcohol on the personality rings all too true. I'm not supposed to give away the ending, but since some reviewers have criticized it, I will add this. In my opinion the ending makes sense. Perhaps it could have been expanded, but it is in character, when you understand what alcohol does to certain people who fall victim to its more dire effects.

Light
This is a light easy read. Not earth shattering. It would be good be a good beach read. It kept attention.

Boring
I rarely leave a book without finishing, but I am making an exception . The central character is not really interesting enough to like or dislike. I did not make it to halfway, I just do not care what happens to this girl, can't bring myself to waste any further effort t finish. I bought as an action, maybe for a teen female with dreams of stardom, not for me.

Excellent Read!
I loved this book! I would almost consider it more of a novella though than a full novel, it only took me about 4 or 5 hours to read it and my only complaint is that I wish it had been longer. The author has a really unique writing style, I loved Roxanne's somewhat neurotic inner monologue. It vaguely reminded me of The Bell Jar and I would definitely recommend this book to someone who wants to read something different and refreshing!

Lame
The lead character is naive with low self-esteem. Most of the book Roxanne kept saying I should have said this, but chickened out. I think maybe this is a Christian book. Idk

Enjoyed
Loved reading about Roxanne, a fantastic character who captured my imagination from the start. Recommended for all who love to read stories that are light with an undying sweetness and with well developed characters. Once I started reading Roxanne in La La Land couldn't put it down until I finished it.

Liked the writing style, but...
I can't say I liked the story. I was going along fine until about a third of the way through when a model Roxanne is talking to dumps a page-long confession about her abortion out of nowhere. Talk about left field! The novel had been pretty light and fluffy up until that point. From there it was just downhill and I was tempted to give up about two-thirds through, but pushed on. I shouldn't have. I'm not sure why Roxanne's character went from one extreme to the other and no explanation (via character development) was given. I wanted to like it, but I didn't..
