I use one of these for a daily prompted painting and love these books! The paper is thick and really nice quality and holds up very well to pencil sketching and erasing, watercolors, and even fluid acrylics. And I use both sides of each page with no problem. The size is perfect to carry around and it seems comparable to much more expensive watercolor journals that I've bought

What a great little book! I am a beginner watercolorist and needed decent paper to practice. This book is sturdy, good for travel, and the paper is such good quality (from my limited experience). I tend to be a bit heavy handed with water and this handles it well with minimal buckling. The photos I included are done on one sheet, front (lily pad) and back (avocado). I definitely recommend this watercolor book if you need something small to work with. 10/10! Would buy again!

LOVE these, they are exquisite. Would buy these again as soon as the need arises. Great for art anywhere. They are stylish, great small size, easily portable, folds flat pretty well and holds up to acrylic paint. When full it would look great on a book or art shelf; or as gifts to others filled in with your art (or blank for them to use).

The paper is nice, fairly thick for a sketchbook, and textured. It warps a little when you watercolor on it - as most watercolor paper does unless it is extremely thick, and for a bound book, it is better quality than I had expected. The binding is made up of several groups of paper folded together, glued, and sewn/tacked in a few spots up each group. The glue doesn't hold well and the groups separate (happened the second day), but as long as the sewing on it holds up and the pages stay inside, I don't really have an issue with it. Look at what you can get at Target or Walmart for under $5 each.. nothing even CLOSE to as nice these are! I wish the fabric covered cover came in different colors - I'd order a bunch more to have several colors! The price is amazing for the quality of the product!

These little sketchbooks are top-notch. Nice fabric covers, heavy paper, nice texture for sketching or painting and a useful elastic strap closure. Great for the price.

I've purchased these several times over the years. They're great for on the go painting or for dabbling with small watercolors.

This is student or kid grade paper. It doesn't take much for the paper to pill up- the surface is not very durable. I have lighter weight sketchbooks, like moleskine and pentel, and speedball art journals, those are 90 lb watercolor paper, and I never have issues with them. I can use washes on both sides of those pages and the paper quality is VERY consistent. I would agree with many reviewers of these sketchbooks in all sizes: 1: the front and back of the sheets of paper are very different finishes and DO indeed take water and dry media differently enough that you can't work across the gutter if that particular page is "mixed" ie with front "rough" on left and back "smooth" finish on the right side. 2: these books are improperly bound in 2 ways: 1-the stitching loosens, very quickly. and 2- the paper is not laid out correctly during the binding process. they should be laid in signatures so that there are always a front finish opposite a front finish and a back finished texture facing a back finished texture, but it's clear at the factory they do not take this extra step in their manufacturing process to make their end product worth using. if you are an artist who does like both sides of the sheet of paper, you are constrained still by having mixed up paper finishes facing each other much of the time. they would need to flip the sheets of paper during the binding process in order to do this for every 4 sheet signature, but, they just dont bother. thats why you get pages that seem randomly paired. 3: the paper can't take much water media work. flat out. if you basically use dry brush techniques, you might be able to do it. if you use watercolor markers and a slightly damp brush to blend, you MIGHT be able to make it work. but in my experience, what happens with this paper is that it will take a light wash and once the fibers have been moistened, if you re wet them, they go nuts and start to disintegrate, and the paper begins to pill. here's the thing: if you are going to invest the actual TIME and EFFORT to make some art, then don't use a material that is not going to honor your work. if you want to work on a scratch paper first, or do preliminary sketches, you could use this to work out thumbnails or something like that. I ended up using these little notebooks as swatch books, I drew squares on all the pages to easiliy keep track of the various colors and media I have. I also make palette "dummies" with them, that is, I draw the setup of the diferent watercolor palettes I have made up, and then include small swatches of that particular palette. that way if I go to an art store these little guys can fit in my bag, and I don't have to try and remember if I already bought indigo or indanthrene blue, and I can compare different manufacturers shades against each other. I can also use the dummies to grab a specific color palette if I want to go paint on a trip and make sure I have the right mix of colors for a certain subject matter. ( like seascape vs botanical vs urban vs portraits, for example). overall if you are buying these for practical matters, they can be really handy, like a bound little set of index cards for art materials. but if you are wanting something to do actual art or travel journaling, do yourself a favor, don't cheap out by the $3 price difference or the couple of extra pages. buy a proper book from a reputable brand. your work will be more enjoyable while you work, and you will appreciate the end result better.

I am a beginner, so I make a lot of mistakes and frequently have to add or remove color. The paper is very forgiving. I haven't ruined anything. This is a perfect size for the painting and learning I am doing. I will buy these books again.
