Works Great For Us
My wife has hearing issues so she wears Sennheiser wireless headphones when we watch TV while I don't. If she is watching alone it is nice if she can mute the sound from our AV receiver and then listen with her headphones. Otherwise, I can hear it all over the house. I struggled to find a way to connect the headphones so we could watch our DirecTV, Roku, and Blue Ray in this manner. I called Sennheiser and they were no help at all. I searched the web and found a lot of discussion about this problem but no solutions. After a lot of research I worked out a method using these Tendak boxes between the HDMI sources (Roku, etc.) and the AV receiver. This allows me to mute the sound at the AV receiver and still hear with the headphones that have their own volume control. I route the sound output through a 4-port audio switch to the headphones. I just connected it all together today and it works great. Having to switch the audio switch box manually is a minor inconvenience. The Tendak boxes came with RCA to 3.5mm cables (which I needed) and micro USB power cables (which I didn't need). I keep the boxes switched to 2-chan and have not had any problem. The sound from all of my sources comes to the headphones just fine. Other competing boxes seemed to indicate that 5.1 sound would not be converted to 2-chan. In the question section the seller said that the Tendak would convert to 2-chan. I can't tell if my sources are sending 5.1 sound or not (I assume they are). All I know is that it works. Thanks Tendak. Update 11/30/2016: I found that some Roku channels (HBO Now for one) send audio in a format that the Tendak box cannot decode. So, no audio from those channels. I went in to the Roku setup and changed the output to 2 channel stereo. Now the headphones are working with all Roku channels but my home theater sound is not as good. I will live with it for now and see if it bothers me.

Works as advertised, but, with limitations in regard to Apple TV 4 on my setup.
I am giving this 5 stars as it works exactly as it should, but, not for my purposes so it was returned. The product 100% extracted the audio and passed a full signal to all the two connected devices, however, I had wanted this to be able to connect to my TV and to my home theater receiver in order to get the audio into my receiver in 5.1 surround yet still have stereo input to my TV for times that I did not want to use the receiver (which is most of the time in my household unless I am the one watching something, everyone else in the house is fine with stereo and the TV speakers). I was unable to make this device work to do that in the fashion I needed. The AppleTV4 is just too smart. It senses what devices are connected via HDMI and then adjusts the output from the ATV4 to accommodate. Since the only device that is connected via HDMI using this product is the TV, the ATV4 downgrades all the audio to stereo, so all I get to the receiver is stereo as well, no 5.1 at all (and, yes, I tried all the modes). My receiver has pass-through mode which works, but, everyone in the household complains about all the buttons required to get sound to the TV using that method (change TV input to receiver, then change AV input to the HDMI in from the Apple TV). For many of us these few keystrokes are not a problem but for my household they want to turn on the TV, switch the input to the HDMI for the ATV4 and then be done with no receiver remote involved. This won't help you with that for reasons shown. Perhaps some newer TVs have full 5.1 processing capability but my Panasonic Plasma does not, so, the issues I stated could not be overcome with this product. If your TV will receive a full 5.1 signal and process it perhaps your experience will be different.

Worked after trial and error
Using this splitter with a Gen4 AppleTV, non-4K. After a lot of fine tuning, the device is finally doing what it’s supposed to. Out of the box, it wasn’t clear if the external power cable is needed for the splitter to function properly. So far, the AppleTV seems to provide sufficient power via HDMI. Next, I set the audio switch to 5.1 to get a Dolby Digital signal to my receiver via the optical cable. The reciever would only recognize a non-digital ProLogic signal, the sound level was noticeably low and certain frequencies were missing. Music and some effects came through but voices were completely absent. Moving the switch did nothing. I discovered that I had to adjust the audio format setting within the AppleTV from its default of “best available” to 5.1 specifically. The audio noticably improved but still wasn’t full. I moved the splitter switch to the “pass” setting which filled in the gaps and finally the sound felt correct. According to the instructions, the “pass” setting shouldn’t work this way but it did for me in this case.

Works fantastic, with one bug caused by my TV.
First off, this thing is TINY. I expected it to be small, based on the port sizes, but it really is as small as it could possibly be. I bought it for use with a 2nd generation Chromecast, and the box is almost the exact same size as the disk of the Chromecast in width and length, and about 3x thicker in height. Secondly, it works great! It separates the audio and video from the Chromecast, which lets me play music from the Chromecast without having to turn on the TV to hear it. Audio and video outputs are crisp, clean, and lag-free. I'm using the 1/8" output, not the SPDIF, so I can't speak for that output. It does get rather warm when running, not dangerously so, but noticeably, there's some processing going on in the box that generates heat, so maybe don't bury it somewhere it can't get any airflow. The switch from 5.1 to 2.0 to PASS doesn't seem to change anything on the 1/8" audio output, all 3 settings give sound out of that port. Moving the switch DOES seem to "reboot" the box though, stopping audio and video output for a couple seconds. There is one bug, though: no matter what setting I have the switch on, whenever I turn the TV on or off, the audio drops out for a second or so. This is baffling, because it means the TV is somehow sending a signal back over HDMI to the box, which is causing it to stop the 1/8" output. Why the box is doing anything based on signals sent back from the TV is beyond me, as it should only be sending data TO the TV, not back from it. It's probably something weird about my TV, and not the box itself, but I figured people should know that your TV might do this weird thing too.

Does what it is meant to do for the 2017 Fire TV and my old JVC Receiver
i had no idea this type of product existed or i would have upgraded to some new technology a lot sooner. I have an old receiver and an old TV in my Bedroom because - hey - it still works and it's still decent stuff. But the problem was that I could not connect newer devices that carry sound over the HDMI cable. Enter this wonderful piece of tech - it separates the audio channel for output via Toslink/optical which allows my receiver to receive and output the sound. Wonderful. It works. No BS. What was really nice was the ability to force it into 2 channel mode. It worked in 5.1 but because my receiver doesn't seem to be able to process 5.1 to power the sub with the data it received, the subwoofer stayed quiet because the FireTV wasn't sending any discrete subwoofer data. But setting it to 2 channel mode allowed my receiver, which can process stereo signals, to use my subwoofer. this scenario may not come up for anyone else but in my particular situation, the 2 channel mode was what i needed - and, i suspect that it might help others who need 2 channel data for various other reasons. Really old receivers might not support Dolby Digital, etc. Bottom line - i have good picture and audio through this device. No glitches. It works great - didn't need the manual to figure it out...what more can i say? Well worth the price. Excellent value.

Glitchy picture and sound on ps4 then shuts off
We were all excited when this arrived on time with the two day shipping. Climbed on the ladder to disconnect the PS3 and switch it out for the ps4. Only to find out after taking turns climbing up and down the ladder that this box does not work. All connections were done properly (we are very tech savvy). Connecting ps4 to the projector with a receiver. No problems with any of the cords, as I connected it fine directly for video. When adding the box for the audio and video out the picture and sound is glitchy coming in and out with a fuzzy picture then the ps4 shuts down. Just got the ps4 a week ago and it works just fine on the tv as well as connecting to projector with hdmi. Tried different hdmi cords to make sure it wasn't any of the cords and nope. It's the box. Not sure if mine is a problem and just need a replacement, or if this is a piece of junk. Gonna send this back and try another box because of all of the good reviews. If that one doesn't work then this is a complete waste of time, money and effort. I will update once I speak to ztendak....

Loses Signal in 1080p
Not sure if I am unlucky and bought defective item or if it is unable to handle a 1080p signal from my PS4, to my Elgato, and finally to my monitor. Works perfectly when setting my PS4 video output settings to 720 (which is why I rate it 3 stars). It does help in streaming game play, however I want to stream in 1080p. I would also like to play casually in 1080p, although I have been unsuccessful in doing so with this item. After troubleshooting, I've isolated the issue to the Tendak. I've tried different HDMI cables, I've tried three 1ft cables (PS4 > Tendak > Elgato), and using power from power pack instead of computer usb port. PS4 Slim has no issue running 1080p until connected to Tendak. I am considering the purchase of the below model in hopes it resolves my issue. https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Converter-JTDAT5CH/dp/B00BIQER0E/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8 If anyone has any ideas on why it won't run in 1080p that would be awesome!

it never played nice with the AppleTV4, that is until the excellent customer service folks at Tendak helped me out!
Sadly, it never played nice with the AppleTV4. It worked, rarely. Also it was poorly constructed as the power connector fell apart and into the casing after removing and replacing the micro usb cable a few times. Too bad... But then shortly after posting the original negative review, the nice folks at Tendak reached out to me, and were concerned about my awful experience. They immediately offered a replacement device and once I received it, and I hooked that one up, everything worked perfectly! I guess I was just unlucky and got a faulty device before. With the original, I tried everything I could think of to get the signal to work properly with no success, aside from a few moments, and then when the power connector finally broke that was the last straw for me. After inspecting the replacement I can say that this device does have a solid casing and I like the audio switcher options along with the optical audio out. The image quality is crisp and clear, and the power connector seems solid this time around. Usually I would just give a 4 star rating for a great product, but they get one more for the attentive and exceptional customer service, providing me with a replacement, and then giving me all the instructions I would need to ensure success, but to be honest, it was easy to connect, and worked on the first try. Now that's not to say other users won't need to adjust some settings for their Apple TV's, you might, depending on your monitor set up and so on. If it fails at first, don't despair, take some time and adjust some of the A/V settings. If you are looking for a clean solution to the missing audio output on the new Apple TV4, then consider giving this Tendak product a shot! 👏🏼😄👍🏼

Product didnt work and supplier made a drama to do the refund
MY SUGGESTION TO YOU: DONT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS SUPPLIER SPECIALLY THIS PRODUCT. the device didnt work and has different issues. the LED lights on the device turning on and when you connect the hdmi they go off then randomly turn on. the HDMI output carries video and there is video output but there is no audio output which is the main function of the device. we requested for refund 1 hour after we received and checked the device but the supplier asked for a picture of the product. we sent the pic then they said bring the device out and send us another picture. we did but still they didnt refund and at the end we asked for amazon support center help and finally supplier accepted to refund BUT they said after we receive the device then after 5 days they will refund. its already couple of days we requested for refund and still no one showed up to collect the product.
