If i used this for adaptec raid controller, will performance be the same as if installed on the server motherboard?

Hello Michael, The ProTools HDX card does not fit in the Echo Express SEIIIe. You would need an Echo III, which supports the full-length HDX card and works with the M1 Macs.

Will this work with older server class sas/sata raid cards - specifically lsilogic sas9260 or other cards from that generation?

You would have to ask the card maker whether their driver is Thunderbolt compatible, which usually means that the driver needs to gracefully handle hot plug/unplug. Drivers that cannot handle hot plug/unplug may still work if you plug/unplug the Thunderbolt chassis from the computer only when the computer is shut down.
