A Journey through the Holy Qur'an

A very helpful tool for reading and understanding
I already own four different translations of the Qur'an and have been making my way through it pretty slowly for some time now. I'm used to reading at a high level, so it's not that the Qur'an is such difficult reading - it's more that the Qur'an's mode of expression is so different from just about everything else we read in the West. The language is more elaborate and one must read very carefully to make certain to catch it all. Prior to purchasing this translation, I had been most helped by Muhammad Asad's fine translation which I received from CAIR, and for which I am extremely grateful.Yahiya Emerick's edition is helpful because the language used is very clear and very contemporary, but even more helpful are the many, many notes Yahiya Emerick has included throughout the text to help the reader understand not just the meaning but also the context of what they are reading. This has completely opened up the text to me in ways that it has never been opened before. My studies of the Qur'an are more energized and more fruitful than they have ever been as a result.I also appreciate the fact that this translation does not include the Arabic text. Why? Because this means that I can highlight and make notes in this edition and not worry about being disrespectful to the revealed text, like I used to do in my Bible.I cannot recommend this translation highly enough to anyone seeking to really understand the text of the Qur'an.

Provides a Context for Qur'an
Mr. Emerick takes the time to not only translate the text into modern english but to also provide a historical background information so that the reader has a context in which to understand the revalations.Too often the Qur'an is taken out of context and used to promote the agenda of the person quoting the information(whether it be pro or con). This book should help provide a truer understanding of the Qur'an and the context of the guidance it provided and continues to provide.

Loved this version of the Quran
I have read a couple versions of the Quran translated into english but nothing like this book. This book takes you verse by verse explaining what was going on at the time the verse was being revealed. It allows you to go in depth without losing interest. Definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to read and fully understand the Quran.

Background information on the verses
When you read the quran many verses do not make any sense unless you know the history behind it. This book does just that. It will summarise the background to the verses. It is essential to read this book cover to cover so that you really understand what allah is saying to you

Indepth background to many ayah and surahs
I have brought this for the kindle and from the first time I started reading can say I was hooked by the impressive detail setting out the contexts and background of many ayahs (verses) and main chapters. This has helped to flesh out the main ideas and themes in the Quran and has to led me to achieve a deeper understanding of the Quran. The contemporary language he uses also helps somewhat!Well worth a read if your curious about the Quran from a personal or scholarly angle!

good and detailed translation of the quran
Would have gave it 5 stars but after having seen the childrens version by the same author (5 stars rating), felt that it could be better laid out with images to make it more interesting.Liked the amount of background detail and explanations given for each surah and ayah, each ayah is explained well.Love this author

A great translation
I ordered this book as I liked the author's book "Extended Study Edition" of the Qur'an - and I was curious to know how this one was different. This is a good book who wants to get a clear, but simple understanding of the Qur'an, and is friendly for any age.Having said that - I prefer the "Extended Study Edition" of the Holy Qur'an by Yahiya Emerick simply because it has more information, commentary etc.
