Trick to make these meals even better!
Hello; I’m posting my personal experience enjoying these Mountain House meals, during situations where there wasn’t much food choices available, like during the aftermath of a hurricane in Florida; these meals are just as advertised; they’re real food; still, a few times the hot water added to these meals for 10 minutes was/may not be enough time or moisture exposure to bring the proteins (like in the chicken fajita bowl flavor); I found that opening the package and lightly sprinkling the meal with clean, room temperature water and letting it stand for a couple two, three minutes before adding the hot water to the meal benefits a lot in the actual texture of the protein (chicken, in this recipe I describe); also, if available, add chopped fresh vegetable to the meal, like tomatoes, peppers, or avocado; this addition makes the meal taste more home-made; add a fresh herb if desired as well; just do as I’ve witnessed and add a sprinkle of water to the meal, before adding the hot water; enjoy!

Best Mountain House Meal so far
The Chicken Fajita Bowl meal is legitimately good. Like, so good I tend to eat them when I should be saving them for emergencies. Taste is excellent, appearance is brown goo, but its emergency/camping food, not Michelin dining. I've been adding chopped white onion and shredded cheese to them which really enhances an already good meal. Fresh peppers, green onions, even mushrooms would go well with it too. I'd bet it would be really good on a flour tortilla, especially with sour cream. Super versatile, would make a great reward after a long hike or even better morale boost in an emergency situation. At over ten dollars per meal, they are expensive, but not prohibitive and in my opinion very worth the premium. If you like southwest seasoning, chicken black beans and corn, you will love this.

Decent
This and their breakfast skillet both have a certain smell and flavor that to me is slightly off, I have to assume it's the onion since it's in both. 4/5 because of that, but is really good aside from that certain 'something off'. Their other meals are fantastic though, the beef stroganoff is incredible.

Excellent flavor and texture. Enough for two. Spicy, didn't need anything else
My wife and I really enjoy Mountain House freeze dried meals. We needed items in our emergency supplies that would last more than a few months, and since these have an approximate shelf life of 30 years, we're glad to have them in bulk. We recently went on a camping trip to sample several different popular MH meals, and rated each one. Chicken Fajita Bowl rated 8 out of 10. Enough for two. Spicy without being over the top - didn't need anything else (for example, hot sauce). Consider adding 10-15% less water than directed.

My fav!
This is my fav backpacking meal with some Fritos crunched up in it - YUM! Even without those it’s pretty good. Mountain house doesn’t disappoint with their meals, especially this one.
