Working with Concrete (For Pros By Pros) [Arnold, Rick] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Working with Concrete (For Pros By Pros) Review: Covers everything! - This is a good book with lots of information for someone getting into improving their residence/farm. I am lucky as to living out in the country where there are no inspectors to get in the way. I was still skeptical as to my abilities to build something safe that will last generations. This book is one step towards letting you understand the technicalities of actually meeting code without having to meet code. Did that sound confusing? What I mean is that this book helps you build up to code standards without being inspected. I'm tired, Goodnight. Review: Good research book - Didn't know much about concrete. After reading this book, I have a better understanding of many aspects. This is helping be converse with my concrete contractor.

good overview
Covered many areas and ideas that were new to me (like rebar chairs and footing brackets), but I wish more coverage had been shown on dealing with hydronic tubing in slabs. Even the hydronic books lack specificity on how to maintain tubing at uniform location in slab so as not to be too deep, yet not so close to surface to prevent damage by saw-cut control joints. Would have also like to have seen more discussion on powered trowels for flatwork, and finishing stairs so as not to see formwork impressions on riser (says to leave formwork on for several days, but that means no texturing options for the risers.)

Gives a good foundation
This is a great book for building a house's foundation but not much more. I got another book for decorative concrete and that covers more of the smaller jobs that I was looking for.

Met My Expectation
I own a few books on concrete and masonry work. This book has more useful information than the others I've purchased, but it does seem to be geared more towards people who live in areas where basements are common (like most DIY books seem to be). Homes in my area are almost exclusively frame on slab with no basement or crawl space.

Well written with lots of important tips and example photos showing the different types/areas of concrete work. As a novice when it comes to concrete work, this book provided me with lots of very important background information for any future concrete work I have done for me.
