Shock Treatment [VHS]

I'm a sucker for underappreciated sequels. And this one is top for me. So ahead of it's time. Doesnt really have much of anything to do with rocky horror even though its technically a sequel but man this movie delivers. Flawed, yes. It's not perfect. But I love it I've watched it so many times and still laugh at the dark comedy.

This movie is great! I truly recognize it as a sequel to Rocky Horror along with Revenge of the Old Queen. The story is a bit muddled but as long as one is sober it's not difficult to understand. Despite a different cast this still preserves the legacy of cult classic RHPS. I personally believe the music is better than Rocky. I appreciate that Richard O'Brien and Patricia Quinn were in this, however I believe the presence of Little Nell in this film was a grave mistake, she's impossible to understand and annoying. However not even that could bring down the quality of this new cult classic.

Apparently this Blu Ray is locked...meaning you can’t play it on a region free player, only a player made for the region. Typical for 20th Century Fox. The listing on Amazon needs to clearly state this.

if you enjoyed Rocky Horror Picture Show, you may also enjoy this. a very loose sequel, it follows Brad and Janet ( this time played by two different actors ) back to their small town, that has been transformed into a 24 hour reality show and studio. The idea of the reality show was new, a few decades bfore the first real one, so that idea is rather clever, and showing how people would do anything to be on TV, was right on point. but it really didn't need to be Brad and Janet, especially since they couldn't get the same actors to play them anyway. Weird songs, odd dialogue and strange fashion should appeal to fans of RHPS.

As the review's title states: even on a region free blu-ray player -- on which I've previously enjoyed blu-rays from Italy, Japan and the UK, with no problems whatsoever -- this disc, for whatever reason, does NOT function. At. ALL. Buyers beware.3 star review is a compromise rating: five for the movie itself (seriously underrated), but only one for the defective physical product itself.

If you are a fan of Shock Treatment, this DVD is the one you want. It has a few documentaries full of information and a wonderful commentary track as well. The color and over all image is fantastic, especially for those of us used to the old VHS release. Also, the sound quality is excellent.A reviewer here said that the commentary should have been "left to professionals". This is a mean thing to say, especially considering that Madman Mike IS a professional in the world of Rocky Horror and Shock Treatment. Mike did a FABULOUS job. So did Bill Brennon for that matter. They give you tons of behind the scenes trivia and insight on the meaning of the movie and its making. I've heard the commentary on many, many DVDs and I've heard horrible ones that were done by directors, actors and other production people. In fact, just listen to the commentary done by Kiara Knightly on one of the Pirates of the Caribbean DVDs and you will think Madman Mike and Bill Brennon are totally professional by comparison.Shock Treatment is very obscure in the scheme of things but it does have some really die hard fans and a "cult within a cult" following with Rocky Horror fans. Shock Treatment was WAY ahead of its time on many levels, especially predicting the direction that reality TV would go. There's not much reality in reality TV, and this movie sort of knew that before it happened.This movie isn't for everyone. But for fans, its a long awaited and fantastic presentation and I can't recommend this DVD enough.

This is my favorite movie! The first time watching it I hated it, but the songs were stuck in my head so I gave it another chance. I have lost count of how many times I have seen it since! Almost everybody I know hates it the first time but ends up obsessed after the 2nd viewing.

Not many people know about this equal to Rocky horror picture show. A friend showed me this and I had to own it! Kinda sucks the original brad and janet couldn't be in there but they worked out great for this story plot

A must have for any true rocky horror picture show fan.This is the lesser known sequel to the rocky horror show.It pales in comparison to RHPS, but is still a cult must have.Ever wonder what happened to Brad & Janet after their exploits with frankenfurter?This tells you.An oddball cult classic.

I have not received it yet. But I am going to review on my experience watching the movie itself. First off you have to realize it's Richard O'Brien were talking about here. He wrote RHPS and Shock Treatment. Songs and Script etc. So you can possibly image how messed up it's going to be, and how much work went into it. Not that it's a bad thing, he has a very interesting sense of humor and sense of style aka. like Tim Burton. Richard O'Brien is a theatre/musical extraordinaire. You have to like the movie based on what it stands for, and what makes you want to watch it. If you watch it like movies nowadays are watched you won't get the value of it. It's up for interpretation like Donnie Darko was. Like RHPS you have to like it for what it's all about. Their talented actors. But It's Richard O'Brien, all things wacky,trendy, and borderline sociopathic(in a non creepy way). It's a cult like any other and if your going to try this out for the first time you have to keep an open mind.

I loved it, although I can see why a lot of people didn't. It was hard to follow, didn't really explain what was happening and was certainly missing Susan Sarandon as Janet. But overall I enjoyed it.

Es poco convencional,en abril fui a ver la obra de teatro a Londres y me encantó.Como no encontré la BSO me decanté por el original.Es ochentera, para mi los arreglos del teatro son mejores pero hay que comprender que era otro tiempo.Encantada de tener la película.

Davvero noioso, impossibile sopravvivere oltre i primi venti minuti.Acquistato usato, purtroppo la custodia risultava danneggiata ma ancor peggio il contenuto era davvero pessimo.

Poco conosciuto ma un film davvero bello.Peccato ci siano pochi contenuti extra e che non ci sia il libretto con i testi delle canzoni

Certes, le film n'est pas aussi bon que le Rocky Horror Picture Show mais il a le mérite d'exister mais on ne trouve pas de DVD Français zone 2 chez nous.Heureusement cette édition italienne propose le film avec des sous-titres en français pour en profiter pleinement.Techniquement c'est le minimum syndical mais on y retrouve l'essentiel.Quelques morceaux très réussis tout de même dans ce film.

Sympa de retrouver dans ce DVD une partie de l'équipe du film The Rocky horror picture show.Bien sûr ça ne vaut pas le Rocky mais le film se laisse regarder et c'est toujours un plaisir de retrouver Jessica Harper

Not the Rocky Horror but still very entertaining...

Hierbei handelt es sich um eine art Fortsetzung der legendären Rocky-Horror-Picture-Show. Laut damaligen O-Ton von Richard O'Brien kommen Brad und Janet in den 80er Jahren an, in einer durchgeknallten TV-show, welche den Commerz-Wahnsinn von heute bereits vorwegnimmt. Den Kinostart versemmelte damals der Verleih, so dass außer Insidern niemand wußte, dass es sich um die Rocky-Horror-Macher handelte. Nach wenigen Wochen war der Film verschwunden und ich kann mich auch nicht an eine Ausstrahlung im Fernsehen erinnern. So kommt er jetzt doch noch zu seiner berechtigten Zuseherschaft.Zur DVD:Die Bild- und Tonqualität ist für das Alter des Films gut, aber der Ländercode verhinderte das Abspielen. Ich mußte erst in die Trickkiste des Computers greifen, um den Film sehen zu können.

For me this has always been the better of the two films. I am friends with Richard, and i agree with him that the plot is a bit confused, but controversially I have always preferred the soundtrack to Rocky. A lot of fun despite the downsides

I'm sure Arrow's done their usual perfect job with the film transfer, extras and paper based extras. But the slip case that holds the package together is made of thin card which is easily crushed and pretty much destroys this 'limited' version. Top-tip - order this with enough other items for Amazon to ship in a box, and it should arrive in good condition.
