Will this work for home defence and is it sharp out of the box

Good for both uses. Light and easy to maneuver makes it great for home defense. Handle feels nice in your hand. Sharp out of the box. Seems to hold its edge well.

What's the benefit if the curved shape blade?

I believe that the advantage of the Kukri style blade is that its curved edge tends to slice rather than chop, no matter how you attack the target with it.

How well will this work against bamboo?

I used my SOG 18" machete on bamboo it worked like a champ I keep my kukri in my truck for defense and just whatever else I need it for

does the sheath have molle attachments?

No. It just has a loop for your belt. Because of the back of the sheath being open (due to the fact that the kukri blade is wider at the top then at the handle) it's not going to be molle friendly.
