Other potential buyers should know that I tried several "onesies" recovery suits for my 8 month old cockapoo after his neutering surgery. He is exactly in the middle of two sizes (med and large). He weighs 21lbs, and is long. So, litsen up: he's a large Medium, and a small Large. My pup was sent home from the procedure with an econe. (Elizabethan cone/plastic cone...) That simply was not ever going to work. So, I started buying onesies from anywhere I could find them for quick delivery. BellyGuard Dog Surgery Recovery Suit, Dog Onesie is the ONLY garment that helped at all. I bought sizes Medium and Large, and kept both. The Large is better for his length, but both work, and work well. They are easy to put on and snap into place. No velcro, no gaps. Easy to unsnap and roll up for potty breaks. (They even hasve a front snap to hold it in place while it's rolled up.) Each size can be modified a bit for back length. Easy to wash and dry. (Every other "best seller" I returned.) My vet warned me that pups will try to chew through a garment to lick; fair point. Keep your eye on your pup and buy this comfy onesie!

Had to neuter a 6yr old highly reactive dog. I figured I could get by with the cone from the vet but he whined continously in it and wouldn't eat or drink. Then I tried an inflatable collar but he was able to reach his incision anyway. Working from home, I figured I would just keep an eye on him. I was wrong. He licked it more than I realized. Finally, I ordered this and put it on him thinking he would hate it and it wouldn't work. Thankfully, I was wrong again. He seems to like it. He gets excited every time I have to put it back on. He's healing much faster now and seems more like himself. I leave it on most of the day and overnight. I do take it off when I take him outside. You don't have to, it has a snap too keep it out of the way. It fit perfect. He's 67 pound Scotch Collie and I ordered the XXL. I didn't measure him, he's not very cooperative about those kinds of things. The XXL fits great. It may be a little loose but it covers the surgical area. There are 2 positions to snap it and I started with the bigger fit but noticed his bits fell through the side. I then used the 2nd snap position to make it a little snugger and now nothing is peeking through that he can get to. This worked so much better than I expected for him and I'm so thankful. It's easy to get on and off and that's saying a lot for this dog. If he didn't like it, he'd never let me put it on a 2nd time. For us, a GREAT product that is serving its purpose and something I may continue to use with him even after he's healed because he seems to enjoy wearing it.

I had decided not to order this based on reviews. When speaking with my vet’s office a few days prior to the surgery, I asked their advice on what to use post surgery. They suggested one of the “onesie” shirts. I decided to place an order for this one and am so happy that I did! It is well made with soft, comfortable fabric. The fit is exactly as described, and the snaps placement is perfect and easy to use. After a couple of days, I removed the shirt to let the incision “get some air” and placed one of those donuts around her neck ( I had purchased it when I originally decided not to get the shirt). Woah! She went crazy trying to get it off….absolutely traumatized. I gave it a little while to see if she got used it but took it off her when she started crying. Put the shirt back on, and she immediately settled down and wanted to play. The material has not stretched out, has not ripped and her incision is protected from her attempts to get to it. Highly recommend this product. I have an 11 pound Havapoo and got a size Small. Excellent fit

Edit: still great purchase but it’s day 7 and we’ve noticed it’s a tad short for him and it’s starting to irritate his scrotum area so we give him breaks from it and he seems happier. He does seem to lick his incision site but mainly because his scrotum is bothered I think. Keep this in mind for fit! Best fitting post surgical suit we could find for our male dogs body shape. He’s very long and lanky, not much fat on him, so sizing can be tricky. We got an XL and my only thought is that the neck is a bit snug but I’ve stretched it out and it’s starting to stretch with time. Using for post neuter surgery and it’s more comfortable for pup than the donut and cone, but he can still lick the fabric until it gets wet if we aren’t watching so if that’s the case we do pair with the donut. Our donut has a zippered cone attachment we can add if we need extra prevention but most of the time the ruff life suit is good enough as long as we’re keeping an eye on him from licking his incision. Overall, liked this much better than some of the others we tried mainly due to fit and that it covers the whole wound. When he needs to go pee or poop we just unbutton the pieces in the back and roll it up until he’s done, then we resnap it into place afterwards. Have washed it once and dried on medium heat, no noticeable shrinkage. Nice tshirt cotton material that’s breaths. Not too tight so pup is comfy but incision still has protection. Also super cute:) Would recommend! For references our pup is 11 months and weighs about 68-70lbs, Girth = 29/30” head= 20 Neck =18-19 Back waist = 24 Length = 28 Hope this helps some of you!

Our little guy was dealing with both neutering and a hot spot on his ribs. The BellyGuard allows him full mobility while having a barrier to keep him from obsessively licking his healing skin. The design is excellent with its adjustable fit snaps plus the fold-up snap at the neck, making it easy to get the suit adjusted for potty breaks. The sizing guide was spot on, it fits perfectly. Fabric and construction is well made. The material is smooth, breathable and very comfortable for the dog. We're in a heat wave and I have checked by placing my hand between the fabric and pet and it's not trapping heat. The neck seems a little snug, but it doesn't bother my dog. Launders well. I haven't had any issues with him trying to chew through the fabric, but I have also been spraying the hot spot with bitter so he's not gone after it. Overall would highly recommend this suit for its functional design, comfort and quality. It arrived in a sturdy zip-close bag which will make for good storage once he's recovered.

A better alternative to the “cone of shame” for our dog after surgery! This "BellyGuard dog surgery recovery suit" worked exactly as we hoped for our young Malinois-mix female. We ordered Extra Large per the size-chart measurements, and the fit was just right. The fabric felt soft and breathable, and it was fairly easy to slide on and secure. Our dog seemed happy to wear it and quickly adapted to having it removed or put on again. It was well worth the money to keep her from messing with her stitches, and so much better for all of us than a massive, clunky cone. For outdoor breaks easier you must roll up the back when needed and secure it with the buttons designed into the suit. We forgot once and one time only, which is why I can confirm that the suit is machine washable. Overall, this recovery suit did the job we hoped for — it kept wounds protected, was comfortable for our dog, and was a much less stressful option compared to a traditional cone. A good choice for a more pleasant post-op experience for your best friend.

Our 93-lb Bernese Mountain Dog is one week past her spay and gastropexy (prevents bloat), so had two incisions that we needed to keep her from bothering. This suit was perfect for her. We got the largest size and it fits her, but it probably wouldn't fit a dog that was much bigger (over 100 lbs). It's fairly easy to put on but the real benefit are the snaps for when we take her out to potty. Unsnap the four snaps above her tail, bring the long piece under and snap it once under her chin -- takes 20 seconds tops and she's ready to go out. When she comes back in, reverse the process and she's all covered up again. This is a genius design. The material is really soft and comfy and she never seemed to even notice that she was wearing it. Very glad we got this.

We read all of the reviews. The most helpful reviewer suggested ordering two different varieties. She found the snaps on this one were much easier to work with than the other designs that use velcro closures. These snaps are pretty great. Size-wise, we sized up a little because his splenectomy incision is long and we didn’t want anything to irritate it. He’s a miniature poodle mix, 14.5 pounds, 11.5 inch neck, 17.5 inch chest, 17 inches from his neck to his tail, so we ordered the regular medium knowing it would be a little big. Good thing we went up in size because the neck opening is tight BUT has stretch so I used a cylinder to stretch out the neck which worked perfectly. The font leg holes are wide and helped with quickly getting it on and off. It was a little long but we only needed to cover his middle abdomen and used the dark metal snap meant to uncover their butts for bathroom breaks the whole time he wore the suit so it was never used as a onesie. He is supervised and hasn’t tried to lick his abdominal stitches through the suit. Not even at night when we sleep. This cotton material is soft and breathable - super preferable for wound healing and it is machine wash and dry. That is convenient! Some of the other brands were polyester and line dry only. We’re glad we got this. No need for a cone. Protects his incision. It’s comfy, versatile, and convenient. Highly recommend trying this one.

Worked like a bomb. Only problem now is she refuses to take it off.

The BellyGuard onesie gets 5 stars from us ! My dog happily wore BellyGuard suits for 12 days after surgery. So much better than head cones. Easy to undo the tail flap.
