Smooth Installation and Flawless Performance I picked up the Plextor PX-891SAF DVD writer to replace an older drive, and it’s been nothing but reliable. Installation was straightforward—just plug into a SATA port, secure it in the bay, and the system recognized it instantly without hunting for extra drivers. That’s always a relief. Performance has been excellent. It burns discs quickly and quietly, and playback of both DVDs and CDs has been smooth with no skips or hiccups. I especially appreciate the dual-layer capability, which is great for larger projects. Compared to some cheaper generic drives I’ve used in the past, this Plextor feels more solidly built, with a smooth tray action that doesn’t feel flimsy. One thing to note: this is a bulk/OEM drive, so it comes without cables, software, or fancy packaging. Not an issue for me since I had spares, but worth keeping in mind if you’re expecting a full retail kit. Bottom line: A dependable, no-nonsense optical drive that delivers exactly what it promises—fast burns, clean reads, and a solid feel. Great choice if you need a reliable internal DVD burner.

This PLEXTOR DRIVE lives up to the PLEXTOR name that I am familiar with from buying a lot of their AMAZING, LONG LASTING and very reliable products back in England UK. I recommend anything and everything by this brand, they are one of the few "long term" brands that never went downhill. This DVDRW drive is burning my DVD (standard, not duel layer, have not tried duel layer yet) without any issues .. i am using SONY DVDs and they were failing on my external pioneer bd-xl to record properly .... however pioneer tend to work great when directly inside a machine .. I found most optical drives are useless when relying on any USB connection. So plextor DVD drive is fast, quiet, works great, reads everything I put in to it and records to anything I have tried including VERBATIM DVD+R which is usually the only brand of disk I would purchase, but I ran out of them during my 5 years backup of LIFE WORK ( music, video I make - soon to release an album mid 2023 ) and tons of other things I backup that i invent and create ...... I had some SONY DVD-r left over so I finished using them. windows 10 gives me the options to BURN UP TO 16x SPEED but I always use 4x... I find then that the disks can be read on older machines without issues .... and on all of my devices... not just laptops and desktop computers.

I bought a plextor drive many years ago and it served me for many years, hopefully this 1 is has good as the 1 i had in 2004.

Works with Windows 11. Get the retail item if you need cables and/or CD burner software.

First time Plextor buyer. I looked at brands like LG and Asus, but I settled on Plextor and it is a great drive. First thing I noticed is it's very quiet. I just built my first computer, and I needed a CD Drive. Since I do a lot of dvd burning. The software I use to burn, needs to cycle the tray after burning to verify the burn. This drive does exactly that. I have no problems with Windows 10 recognizing the drive, or any issues with reading or writing discs. I did see reviews that said NOT to use the disk for the software that ships with this drive, so I didn't. I use BurnAware Free anyway its a better alternative. I highly recommend this drive for PC builders that still need an optical drive.

I installed it in a Vantec USB3.0 external enclosure (purchased here on Amazon), and have no problems with Windows 10 recognizing the drive, or any issues with reading or writing discs. I did see reviews that said NOT to use the disk for the software that ships with this drive, so I didn't. I already had Imgburn installed anyway. Didn't need the CD burner XP softwear either. If needed, I would purchas this drive again.
