Terrible picture quality - Prime Video streaming rental review
The Prime Video streaming rental we got was digitized from a copy that had scratches and lint, smudgy every once in a while, and audio that sounds like it came from a tin can. As bad quality as the 8mm movies they'd shows us in school as kids when a teacher called in sick and there was no substitute.I don't expect 4K remastered in all its glory, just a decent quality digitization.

Classic Disney
As a child I stole this clamshell VHS from Disneyland. I have always regretted that. What I haven't regretted is watching this movie, because it's beautiful. Merlin is a great character and Archimedes was teaching all us little ones how to throw shade. This movie teaches the wonders of education and the importance of mentors for disadvantaged youths. Maybe if I had a mentor in my childhood I might be doing more today then lamenting my juvenile petty thief on an Amazon review. Anyway, 5 Stars!

A Household Favorite
Excellent film! While other girls were obsessing over Cinderella and Beauty and The Beast, I was rewinding my old VHS cassette of this movie so I could watch it “one more time.” Now I’m in my late twenties and my daughter is obsessing over this film. And thanks to Amazon, there’s no rewinding required!

Big issue with the Blu-ray is the incorrect aspect ratio
I did not find the picture quality all that much better than my old DVD but at least the DVD gives me the whole movie. This new Blu-ray release cuts off the top and bottom to make it 16:9 and removes about 30% of the original. This is not only disgraceful it also has the effect of making everything more jerky as one has one's view zoomed in and the original perspective is lost. I will stick with my DVD. Hopefully one day Disney will do the honest thing and give us the option to watch the original release not this politically correct cripple!

An absolute FAVORITE - every kid should watch this!
I absolutely LOVE this movie! Why it's not a favorite of ALL kids (young and old) I'll never know. The animation is wonderful, the music is perfect, and it's got loveable characters and LOTS of cool magic in it!If by some miracle you haven't seen this, here's some of what you have to look forward to: Merlin the magician in his tall pointy blue hat and long robe and long white beard, and his sidekick Archimedes the grouchy but wise owl; animated dishes and household objects (the first movie to have these I think) - and when he packs up his house everything flies through the air shrinking down and packing themselves in his suitcase; as a lesson for young Arthur he turns him into a fish and they have an adventure in the water and nearly get eaten; in another lesson he turns Arthur into a squirrel; in another lesson he turns him into a sparrow and Arthur meets "Mad Madame Mim" an evil (but not scary) witch...and then there is a Wizards dual between Merlin and Mim which is just awesome! It doesn't have the snappy remarks that Pixar and more recent Disney movies have - but it's not without humorous remarks. And I really love the "lessons" all kids can benefit from, but they're not preachy or like going to school.I HIGHLY recommend watching this again and again! Probably better for ages 6 and up...

This is a wonderful movie. The disc arrived in perfect shape. Less than 48 hours from when it was ordered. It was purchased for my niece. She is an adult with down syndrome and just loves this film. Her disc broke about a week ago. It was a huge surprise to her that it was replaced so quickly. It was delivered directly to their address without any problemsI am very pleased and my niece thinks her Uncle is the best.

True Classic and Plays Perfectly, even in a PS3 Gaming Console.
Excellent movie and viewing on a PS3 gaming component. Doesn't skip nor is it blurry. My grandson loves this movie, which is great as it isn't like some of the so-called children's movies that are out there today, which really are too violent for 6 year old's, but this one isn't. It shows how a child needs to learn how to pick the good ways to get out of trouble instead of fighting or shooting the 'enemy'. It is a true classic and since it is animated with the old-fashioned cartoon graphics, children understand it isn't real. Some movies today seem too real for children to think they aren't, and they see and hear too much violent language and actions. Not this movie. I am so glad my grandson likes it as much as I did when it first came out when I was not even a mom yet. Thank you Disney for keeping it around.

‘The Sword in the Stone’ (DVD)
‘The Sword in the Stone’ (from 1963) may not be in anyone’s top ten cartoon films - but still it’s an enjoyable addition to the collection - and let’s face it, they don’t make ‘em like this nowadays. As with other Disney films of the '60s and '70s, the animated characters have a lovely sketchy quality about them (a by-product of the Xerox process introduced for ‘101 Dalmations’). The background paintings are excellent too (with the stylized visuals of old London town reminiscent of the tableaux in ‘Sleeping Beauty’).The story is simple enough, and concerns the affable wizard Merlin as he teaches the boy Arthur about life ‘beyond the castle walls’ - by transforming him first into a fish, then a squirrel, and finally a bird. The magic duel between Merlin and mad witch Madame Mim is a famous highlight in this amiable film. This basic DVD edition does have a few extras, including an eight minute featurette about the songwriting partnership of the Sherman Brothers (famed for their contributions to ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘The Jungle Book’).There are two cartoon shorts too, with Mickey Mouse and Goofy: the vintage 1938 classic ‘Brave Little Tailor’ and ‘Knight for a Day’ (from 1945). The ‘Brave Little Tailor’ is especially good, and can be found on ‘Mickey Mouse in Living Colour - Volume One’.
