When I began to rebel against that absurdity and create a farm somewhat like that described by Mr
“One Straw Revolution” was one of the most influential and inspiring reads of hope on my personal 35 year journey as a farmer trying to break free of industrial agriculture. That journey began in 1980 when I was young farmer in the middle of the corn belt trying to get into the world of “get big or get out” that was modern farming. Yes, I really did try to convince myself that you could put poison on your food and not poison yourself. When I began to rebel against that absurdity and create a farm somewhat like that described by Mr. Fukuoka, I quickly felt the disapproval and suspicion of my neighbors, as I imagine he must have. (Not to mention landlords and lenders) At least I could lay in bed at night reading his book and thinking, well I’m not the only nut case . . .Larry’s book clarifies many of the things in Mr. Fukuoka’s writings that I had found difficult to understand. Chapters 3 (The Natural Farm of Masanobu Fukuoka) and seven (Organic Farming and Permaculture) were especially helpful in that regard.Today, our organic farm has a steady stream of visitors and students - and some of those conventional neighbors - interested in finding out about the one straw revolution that’s going on all around them today. “One Straw Revolutionary” is an inspiring and informative look into the life of a courageous and thoughtful man gifted with wisdom.

Brilliant philosophy and wisdom beautifully written
I am in complete agreement with Masanobu Fukuoka's philosophy so it was a pleasure to read it. Larry Korn writes wonderfully and affectionately about this remarkable man and the time he spent learning Fukuoka's perspective on life and farming. I found it hard to put down. I don't see how a skeptic could read this and not be convinced. This book does provide advice on how to perform ( or , more accurately, "allow") natural farming ..... but the better book for a hands-on practical guide is " The Natural Way of Farming" by Fukuoka himself. "One Straw Revolutionary" is the best introduction to it and is just a pleasure for anyone who is compassionate about nature ,loves common sense and simplifying life.....those who believe Nature knows MORE than we, and there fore all is best left to HER.

The best, most useful information in the world will go ...
A writer's first responsibility is to entertain his (her) reader. The best, most useful information in the world will go wasted if the reader does not want to turn the page. with larry's book, One-straw Revolutionary, I was very entertained and gained more knowledge in learning to grow plants and to live in a more sustainable environment. if I was a school teacher, this book would be on my required reading list, as well as group discussions with all the students. If we continue to bury our heads in the sand, we will all die in that position. I prefer to keep looking for better ways for myself and future generations to give back to this earth-IT'S THE ONLY ONE WE'VE GOT. One-Straw Revolutionary is a very valuable tool in the process of making a more sustainable world for ALL the creatures who inhabit it.Steve Smith Reno, Nevada

Mandatory reading for all gardeners and farmers!
I am only 40 pages into the book but it is riveting. It could be called organic, or sustainable, regenerative, no-till, natural. Whatever path you follow, he is the beginning of all this! I highly recommend this book!

A great addition, but no substitute for Fukuoka himself.
As other reviewers have said, this is a great addition to the philosophy of Fukuoka. Korn adds a lot of color to the original works. The only risk is that a reader not dig into Fukuoka's own works.

Korn has absorbed Fukuoka's teaching in his soul.
A fabulous book. An excellent review of Fukuoka san's treaching, coupled with a really nice comparison with other forms of non conventional agriculture. The book is also very easy to read. That is a testament to the depths to which Korn has absorbed Fukuoka's teaching.

one-straw can change the world
Larry Korn is to be commended for reminding us of the wonders of natural farming, both as a practice and a philosophy. And of Mr. Fukuoka's revolutionary (return to the roots) efforts to wake the world up to living in harmony with nature. A great book, as is One-Straw Revolution!
