TOTALCONSOLE Playstation 2 Fat Laser Lens (KHS-400B)

Works like it should.

Don’t buy that Ali/eBay stuff, this one brought a PS2 system back to life immediately after I had been working on and off for 2 years. I purchased a lot of other sites’ lasers (maybe 3-4 lasers) and they all failed to read discs. I chose this one because I could return it if failed to work, so I decided to try it again one last time before giving up. I disassembled pretty much the whole console to carefully clean it with 91% isopropyl alcohol from Walmart a toothbrush, a acid resistant brush used for spreading gear marking compound on differential ring gears and wipall towels. Then I focused on getting the plastic moving parts of the drive lubricated with a synthetic grease for dvd drives and gears made for plastic moving parts I got on eBay . I replaced the laser plastic arm even twice before trying this laser. I made sure the alignment inside was as best as I could tell (bushings, screws tightened, everything clean and lubricated (where applicable) and then tested the movement whit console off and then off to make sure the disc tray was moving as smoothly as possible. I took out this laser and carefully handle it to avoid static electricity while I carefully removed the laser anti-static solder points with a soldering iron and a wick. I put it in the console and went on to try it with a few resurfaced games I got on eBay for cheap to get rid of the possibility the disk was badly damaged and would not read because of it. I turn it on and voila!. The disc appeared after a long time of not reading them. The “no data”, “reading disc” and many of the other common associated errors became a thing of the past. After a few days I lubricated the rods and laser arm where it contacts the laser motor and adjusted the screws of the drive and the one on the open laser arm where I feel the read the games faster and quieter. I’ve been testing the console for about two weeks, and although I suspect the video port might be going bad (since it won’t display nothing at times) when the video shows on the screen it always read the games/discs (yes all of them, cd games, dvd games,” blue discs”, music cds, movies, you name it!!!) Hell! I didn’t even know the PS2 were supposed to play movies (dvds) I will be looking to fix that port of the owner of the console (my cousin) decides he wants to get that fixed or settle with the console playing games and display them when it wants to. I probably will be purchasing an output cable to see it it’s a simple fix first before replacing the port or the entire motherboard I’m no expect but I learned a lot from this and I definitely recommend you get your laser from here. They are 1X-4X as expensive than those other sites I mentioned earlier, but in my experience it was definitely worth it. If you’re restoring your console or fixing it, I suggest you also get some working games online or at a game shop, since those games I trying to play earlier still won’t get read by the console with this laser. So I suspect the lasers I got at first were bad quality and probably were also screwed by the badly scratched games. Good luck repairing your console!

Fit and works as it should . Got my fat ps2 playing games again. I opened up my ps2 and found the part number before purchasing .

It was pretty easy to install this, there are plenty of youtube videos available. all you need to do is break the two antistatic soldering points, transfer the small black alignment screw and plastic mount caddy from the old laser. you're done I'd take a picture of the original laser, just so you know the original position of the alignment screw. works great, I'm grabbing a few for my friends

Still reads CDs but not DVDs. Still at least gave it 3 stars. Could be the ps2.

These lasers do not work and are a waste of time. The first one I ordered would not read DVD disks after installing and adjusting so I had it replaced and the second one I was sent had the same issue. I have been doing my own electronics repairs for about 10 years now so I can rule out inexperience or ignorance. The original laser stopped working and I was able to revive it by adjusting it though this means the original laser is going to completely wear out soon. So after going through two replacement lasers that did not work, I reinstalled the original dying laser and might get a year more of life out the console if I'm lucky. I have to assume the story on these lasers are that they are either convincing looking non-functional replicas or they are old stock lasers that are mostly all non-functional yet have not been tested before being re-boxed and sold. I'm not sure where to get reliable replacement lasers but definitely not from this seller - don't waste your time or your money.

I have a 30001 fat PS2 model. It hasn't worked since probably 2002/2003 (CD based games were always a problem). It's always had that infamous disc read error but played DVD games just fine until about 10 years ago or so when it finally went kaput. Deciding I didn't want this to be a display piece on my shelf anymore, I decided to replace the laser and give it a second lease on life. It came well packaged and definitely looked OEM. Only difference was the PCB was different than the stock one. I guess Sony updated the design so it would actually work :) The first one I got must have been a dud. It read CD based games (but it took on average 3 minutes to read) but wouldn't read DVD games or DVDs. I spent hours trying to dial in the pentiometers but it just wouldn't work. I exchanged it with Amazon without any issue and the second one I got worked first time. In fact, it now reads games as fast as my PS2 Slim! I've been putting it through it's paces the last few weeks and it hasn't missed a beat. My fat PS2 now works as good as when I got it at launch. I just hope this laser lasts longer than the stock one Sony put in :D I recommend this. If you get a dud, just exchange it. Only additional piece of advice when changing it, use it as an opportunity to clean the inside and lubricate the rails and worm gear in the drive to ensure a nice long life of the console :)
