High quality, German-made adapters
I've wanted to switch to some kind of quick disconnect system over the years, having seen a plot of professional/commercial applications in nurseries and the like (and tiring of the battle to spin accessories on/off hoses over the years), but up until now, nothing had been satisfactory. The few I tried, whether metal or plastic, were always just absolute junk and turned me off to the whole concept. Enter the Gardena products and, in particular, this adapter. I bought it to swap out for the plastic one that came with my 7-in-1 Gardena sprayer, because you can't snug the plastic ones down without fear of breaking it and I wanted something that would endure better in the desert sun. There are still plastic parts on this adapter, of course, but not the critical connection to the hose where you want to snug it up and prevent any leaks. And, for those curious, unlike the grey vs. orange (Euro vs. North American) thread issue, I encountered absolutely no leaks when using these on my good old USA-made hoses. Whether it's because you can tighten them more or because they fit North American hose, I cannot say, but they don't leak a drop and that's the bottom line. In terms of fit and finish, these bad boys are miles ahead of the junk at the home improvement and big box retail outlets. They are heavy/weighty in the hand and that heft almost always correlates with quality. No cheap parts, no cheap metal, just loads of German engineered and German-made, uncompromising quality. The connections are quick, simple and rock solid, especially when coupled with metal adapters, although these will work with either metal or plastic versions, as they are fully interchangeable. In my case, I snagged two of these and one of the 39022-G premium metal adapters, and was able to rig up a complete system for my backyard needs. Slap the 39022-G on one end of your hose, the 39018 on the other and then a second 39018 to your hose bib and voila. You can now quick disconnect your watering implements (e.g. sprayers, sprinklers, etc.) from the end of the hose AND you can disconnect the hose from the hose bib at will. For those that might want to store their hose or be able to quickly remove it to make it easier to untangle or coil up, this will save you tons of time. Being able to swivel it on both ends will also make it easier to deal with snags/kinks. I could not be happier, and I am re-ordering another set to do the same setup with the hose in my front yard. Absolutely fantastic product, light years ahead of the import junk and other garbage out there. Highly recommended.

Excellent product for switching between garden hose attachments
This is a bit expensive, but worth it! As a not-very-strong woman, I was always having my husband switch out hoses and attachments for me in the garden, and then he would screw them on too tight for me to remove, or I would try it myself and didn't get it tight enough, and it leaked and sprayed all over me. This product solved those problems. We actually purchased a cheaper version of this type of product from a hardware store, and that one leaked, so I tried this one which appeared to be higher quality, and it was worth the additional money. This does not leak. My husband put his good tight seal on the hose connected to this, and also attached the corresponding piece to several of my sprayers (hand sprayer, garden sprinkler, and kids sprayer toy); now I can easily detach and re-attach whichever piece I need without any mess and without asking for help or waiting for hubby to get off work to change out my hose attachment. The other major benefit of this is that it stops the water automatically while you switch hose ends, so there's no need to run back to the house, turn the water off at the tap, switch ends, and then turn it back on at the tap. The mechanism is very easy to work, just pull down on the unit, and the water stops and the attachment end pops off. Do note that this item is only the hose end, you will have to purchase the corresponding piece (probably several of those) to go with it to put on the attachments you want to use or this piece is useless. This company also sells a number of hose attachments, which I have no doubt those attachments are probably better quality than most, but I have used this with my attachments and hose I already owned from a typical hardware store and it has worked fine.

Wow! These seem really good…
This is not something I would normally write a review for. But I have purchased from your local Lowe’s and Home Depot the generic brand that they carry. And both of those last one season. There seems to be a lot of line in calcification that gets added to it and then they just don’t work anymore or like all the time. I got these at the beginning the season and they are holding up. I am totally amazed at how much better these are built. Stay away from plastic ones! Stay away from the steel ones! These are aluminum and they do exactly what they’re supposed to do. My worst case is next season I might have to replace the rubber but maybe not. I ended up buying multiple sets and I am happy with these. If you’re looking for something that is worth an investment long-term I think these are at. They seem very well and they seem to work with our heavy duty use.

Best Watering Tools in the World
My wife is a full-time home gardener with a half-acre of flower gardens, vegetable gardens, and patio plants. She has tried virtually every brand of watering tool on the market and complains about every one of them. I have boxes full of rejected and defective devices that clog, leak, or simply refuse to work. I'm talking hoses, wands, hand sprayers, lawn sprinklers, quick-connects (brass and plastic), etc. She hates them all. Then I found the German Gardena brand and, on a whim, ordered a sampling of everything they make (assuming I would be returning some, if not all, to Amazon. To my surprise, my wife loves them with a passion. They are so simply designed and constructed, yet work so effortlessly. The quick-connects are a dream (I haven't been called upon to fix one yet). The hoses have built-in connects that are easily replaced. The sprayers always work, never clog and never leak. In summary, the best ever. Leave it to the Germans.

Well made
I give it 4 stars for quality but you can't detach a sprinkler and just use it as a hose to water plants, the water won't come out. To do that you have to attach a spray nossel as another attachment. It didn't work for my porpose.

Improvement over the Plastic Connector
The metal connectors are by far the better connector to use. We have actually had one run over and there was no damage. I have used metal with plastic and plastic with metal and they are absolutely interchangeable and work as well as mating similar materials. The GARDENA quick connects are by far the best quick connectors i have ever tried for my garden hoses. If you are just getting started with the GARDENA system you may want to try the multi-pack which are plastic (http://www.amazon.com/Gardena-36004-Garden-Connector-Starter/dp/B00004SDY5/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1414686446&sr=1-1). The multi-pack is what sold me on the use of these products and I got a metal when i bought the premium sprayer (http://www.amazon.com/Gardena-Premium-4-Pattern-Garden-Connect/dp/B002VED4N8/ref=sr_1_46?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1414686569&sr=1-46) and couldn't believe how nice they were. Plastic or Metal - it is your preference...the important thing is the usability of the system and quality results.

Very convenient--until the o-ring fails!
I've been using these for years, and the water-stop feature is very convenient for big yards, long runs from the spigot, and changing tools. These water-stop connectors can be very convenient, but you should have reasonable expectations about their longevity, because they definitely do not last forever for me. The main drawback of these is that the o-ring inside the unit that provides the sealing for the water-stop function eventually comes loose or otherwise fails, ruining the water-stop feature. You can remove the plastic slug from inside the unit with a little effort and use it as a regular non-water-stop connector after the o-ring fails. Even though I know I'm only going to get 6 to 8 months out of them, I continue to buy them because they're cheap and so convenient. I tried the "premium metal" version of the water-stop connecter, and I can't recommend them. They're significantly more expensive, but the internal parts and o-rings are the same, so the durability of the water-stop feature is the same. The metal version is more durable in situations such as dropping your sprayer onto a concrete surface, which has broken one of these plastic connectors for me once. Happy gardening!

Best quick disconnect / water stop on the market
I have tired virtually every quick disconnect / water stop on the market, and this is the best quick disconnect / water stop hands down. Leave the water on and disconnect your nozzle or sprayer and the water stops. You can connect your hose end without turning the water off.. German made. Incredible quality. I highly recommend purchasing the metal connector that is sold separately vs the plastic one that comes with it. Plastic is fine, but the metal one is extremely high quality like the alloy hose connector. Will last a lifetime. You will not be disappointed.

Worth
Cost much more than plastic, but never have to worry about having to replace them

The metal version makes these units much more durable.
I have used both the plastic and metal versions before and the metal ones are much more durable and strong.

7/10
I wanted to love it but unfortunately it started leaking only after 2 days of use, which I not normal for a product at this price. I checked the seals, but it wasn’t from the area that you connect the hose, but from the small gap between the orange and the metal. It was just disappointing because I always felt like Gardena products were high quality, but I’ve noticed a decline in quality that’s for sure.
