Valuable Kitchen Appliance!
Wanting to get away from grains including pasta and rice but still enjoy Italian sauces and Indian curries, I wanted to try raw zucchini cut in angel hair pasta shape to replace rice and pasta. I researched these and ordered one but when it came, it did not have stainless steel blade although the description said it did but instead it was plastic. I did not even try it but shipped it right back. Amazon.com made it very easy to return for which I am grateful because I hate to return things. Then I looked again at all the choices on amazon.com, reading each description carefully and reading the reviews. This one, the Joyce Chen, had mostly favorable but some unfavorable reviews like rusting of the metal but I decided to try it anyway. It does have stainless steel blades and they click into place firmly so it cannot shift while you are cutting. It is important that you look at videos of how to cut your veggies and how to turn the handle and it is easy when you follow those guidelines. I love it. I think people got rusting or residue on the center shaft and blades because they did not clean it properly. It actually comes all apart and you can clean and dry it and put a little oil on the metal parts. The zucchini pasta is really good and my husband and I actually prefer it to real pasta and rice. I have put an Italian meat sauce on top and shrimp curry too--delicious. It could work for whatever -you want --like chili on top -and gives you a nice raw veggie to boot. I have a recipe for marinated cucumber that I want to try and use the spiral blade for because the seedless cuke needs to be cut very thinly and this should do it perfectly. See Kayelily's Pinterest board for Great Healthy Recipes. I may try doing an apple to see how that works! It is a great way to do carrots for recipes calling for grated carrots.

This Spiral Slicer works SO well! Don't cheap out and buy one of those crappy handheld ones.
This is hands down the best spiralizer I have ever owned. Those cheap hand held ones that are everywhere these days can't hold a candle to the Saladacco Spiral Slicer (where did that phrase "can't hold a candle to" even come from? So weird!). I got this device about 8 years ago while experimenting with raw food. I loved making veggie noodles and found this spiralizer to be so easy to use. The way it is designed with the veggie resting on the blade, the spiked plate resting on the veggie, and the super comfortable handle above it all makes it so you get the most noodles out of your veggies and you never have to worry about cutting your hands on sharp little blades. Sadly I lost this glorious piece of kitchen machinery in a move years ago. I tried buying one of those cheap-o hand held spiralizers that look like an hour glass to replace it...it is terrible and I am kicking myself for not being more careful and misplacing my Saladacco. I'm just going to have to suck it up and purchase another one because it is that good. I can't stop thinking about it.What a great zoodling device.

LOVE this slicer!
I use this thing to spiral slice EVERYTHING! On the thin setting I can use the green and yellow squash to make pasta like strands for veggie noodles, and it slices SO easily! NO struggle and very easy to clean. It has allowed for a bit more creativity in the kitchen! The only thing I would change if I could is the height of the food that I can put in the slicer. As it is, you can only use a food piece that is about 4-5 inches and still be able to close the top securely. It would be nice to be able to adjust the lid so that a taller vegetable can fit without having to be cut down.

Rusty!
This product works, but the metal stem rusted within the first couple washes - not good. You do not have to be as particular with your produce as the insturctions lead you to believe. just cut things too long into halves or whatever to fit them under the mechanism, it will work fine. Only issue is something very curved, for that just cut off enough of the top and bottom to get a more straight section. The little lever that you turn to adjust the style of cut isn't in there very snugly. I have issues with it changing direction and cut when I am turning to slice. Also the lever likes to fall out especially when washing and it is a bit tricky to get back in.The lever and the rustiness are the things I hate the most about it. Otherwise, it is nice to be able to make zucchini pasta at home.

Why the negative reviews???
I have had my spiral slicer for a good 4 years now and I wouldn't part with it for anything. It's one of my favorite gadgets and I use it constantly. It works just as it promises, and clean up is easy. So carrots and beets may stain it...who cares? Zucchini and cucumber are easiest to process, harder veggies like carrots and beets may require a bit more elbow grease. My biceps benefit from the extra workout and it is well worth it!I absolutely love it and you can't beat the price. Creating beautiful salads and raw dishes makes me want more to eat even healthier than I already do!

Good while it lasted - and it only lasted two months.
Started off great, easy to use and functions as described.Quickly we noticed some of the blade teeth missing.Soon there were none, and I'm wondering where they all went -- are the blade teeth in our belly ?You can't rotate the blades or switch them so after only two months of use, it is now heading to the trash can.Very disappointed, we really liked the squash noodles in place of actual pasta noodles.$22.00 for two months and about 5 total small meals of use = not worth it at all.AVOID - to cheaply made and fragile teeth. And a belly full of little metal blades is not a great thought.

Great performance, poor construction
This spiral slicer works as advertised. It works by spinning the produce across slicing blades, producing either ribbons or spaghettiish strands (when using the teeth blade.) Unfortunately, after I used it a few times I noticed rustlike discoloration on the metal shaft that turns the vegetables. It didn't affect performance, and wasn't bad enough that I worried about contaminating my food. What prompted the two-star review, however, was that after owing it for only six weeks and maybe a dozen uses, the teeth blade broke completely off. So while it might get five stars for performance, it gets one star or less for its poor quality construction.
