One of the first knives that started my interest in Spyderco, over 12 yrs ago!
First off, I've purchased the plane edge satin steel version and the Black version of this knife. I purchased it here off of Amazon over 11 years ago (the plain version). I own dozens upon dozens of knives. In my pictures, I have the Black version. Its pictured with a Spyderco Ambitious, a Spyderco Sage 2, a Spyderco Stretch, a Kershaw skyline, and an Ontario Rat II, for reference. It's a hobby bug you can catch. Something about the designs, the materials, the fit and finish. How smooth it opened and closes. The lines of the shape. It's an art, most definitely. I'd like to start by saying that the build quality of this knife for the price, there is not many that compare. I know since then, there has been many budget-friendly companies with their D2 steals and whatnot. I still stand behind that. This is a knife you purchase to try out Spyderco. All of this has been mentioned, the g10 of the handle is a material that will help you get better purchase on it the handle when your heads are wet or compromised. It is a good handle material. The blade steel 8cr13mov, very decent for a blade steel. Decent for the blade snobby crowd. I admit I can get a bit snobby. Not too bad though. It will hold an edge quite well and will sharpen quite well. Theres a trade off usually with steels. If a blade steel holds its edge incredibly well, it should be just as hard to sharpen. It may also chip because of how hard the steel may be. With this knife, you can just let the knife be a knife. You can put it through its paces and it will come on out on top. You don't have to baby it, you don't have to overlook it. You can just take it and use it and not feel too bad. And it will take what you throw at it and more, with common sense in mind (knives are not pry bars). In summary, if you're looking for a value folding knife, this knife still holds up, absolutely! If you're looking for a knife to try spider go out, go for it. If you like the way it looks, go for it. Worst case scenario, there is a return policy. This opinion is coming from a person who has handled hundreds of a folding knives. Once that cost into the thousands of dollars. I tell you this is a great knife. I still love it. This is one of the few knives I would recommend as a gift to someone who will be actually using the knife, putting it through its paces so to speak. Definitely definitely recommend it. Thank you for reading. Please, let me know if I have been of help.

Value? Performance? Buck-for-buck, this is the BEST knife out there!!!
I've had a passion for knives for many years, right or wrong. One would probably lament the amount of money and time I have devoted to such a strange hobby. If I was a reasonable man about knives and wanted to choose one (1) folding knife to serve as my EDC (every day carry), this would be that knife. Value? Buck for buck, no folding pocket knife will outperform and out-value (for lack of a better word) the performance and value of the Spyderco Tenacious. As the years have gone by, I simply continue to marvel at this knife's greatness. I have a folder that costs $250.00 right now on the open market, and most days I find the Spyderco Tenacious in my pocket. Why? The performance and value of this beast just blows my mind. This knife can actually outperform many knives that cost over $100.00!! It's slick, robust, smooth as butter, sharp as hell and easy to carry. The design of the blade is very useful and classic Spyderco while the handle is G10 and very ergonomic. Perhaps the best thing about it is the price. You can get this knife for $40-$45 right now. A few years ago, you could get it for as low as $37.00, but I think those days are gone. The steel is 8CR13MOV, which is a Chinese steel very similar to AUS-8. Is it the best steel on the market? No, but Spyderco's treatment of 8CR13MOV is very impressive. It holds its edge fairly well, and is VERY EASY to sharpen to a razor's edge. I have actually grown quite fond of this steel because it's so easy to sharpen. All you have to do is give about 5-10 strokes with a ceramic rod, and it's a razor blade again. I have also been pleasantly surprised at this steel's corrosive resistance, something I was somewhat concerned about. Now, you will have to provide some care to any knife's steel or corrosion will result, but some mineral oil or a wipe down with Tuff-Cloth will be all you need to do with this knife, as long as you keep it dry after use. After exposure to water, I would try to rub it down if possible, but I haven't always done that, and the knife is still holding up well. The liner lock is actually surprisingly strong. I have had many liner lock knives, and some I can just tell that the liner lock won't hold up to heavy usage, but with the Spyderco Tenacious, I have confidence in this lock. That doesn't mean I'm going to be stupid with it, but this lock should hold up pretty well as long as you are reasonably cautious. By contrast, I have been cut by the Kershaw Blur after the liner lock failed in that knife, not that I don't like the Blur, but the liner lock just isn't that secure, at least not as secure as the Tenacious. With any liner lock or any folder, one must always be cautious about lock failure. The ergonomics on this knife are very impressive. This knife fits my hand like a glove, and it holds up so well to heavy usage. I have bought knives like CRKT No Time Off and other heavy duty knives that are almost twice as expensive as the Tenacious, and the I always find myself going back to my Tenacious because it's so comfortable, strong and easy to use. Like I said, I have many knives, many folding knives and many Spydercos, but if I wanted to sell all of my knives and get my money back and keep one (1) knife that could do EDC and heavy duty tasks, the Spyderco Tenacious would be that knife, hands down!! Many people will tell you that the Tenacious is out of style and now there are better options like the Byrd Raven 2 or people will tell you that the Ontario RAT-1 is better, but I'm here to tell you that I have all those knives, and the Spyderco Tenacious is the knife that I trust the most of the bunch. Does that mean it's better than a Spyderco Manix 2 G10 with S30V? No, the Manix 2 has better steel and a stronger lock, but it costs about $60.00 more than the Tenacious, too. What I am saying is that the Spyderco Tenacious is a silky-smooth, robust, beast of a knife and is THE BEST VALUE for the money on the market today, and it's been that way for a long, long time! The Spyderco Tenacious gets my highest recommendation as an EDC folding knife. I love it!!! Overall score: 93/100.

Tenacious A+
I have never been a huge fan of spyderco, just on the blade shape it always seemed so fragile and the ones ive seen like the delica and the military do have a thin skinny blade, they have great tips but overall they seem kinda flimsy, I always thought of them in the same line as a kershaw leek, mainly low use gentelmens folders open mail and crap like that. Now dont get me wrong spyderco does make fine blades and they are strong but they always felt to small and delicate. a perception on my part but it made me uncomfortable nonetheless, so ive stayed away from spyderco for the most part i love the little bug keychain knives they are great. The tenacious does not look delicate the picture doesnt give it justice, the blade has a very wide (as in spine to edge) blade and it just gives me a sense of security with that broad blade and fine but strong tip. I love the tenacious I bought the ambitious as well both are fantastic. Ive even got over the spyderco hole instead of a thumb stud. the ambitious is a bit tough to deploy. the tenacious is just as fast as the blade ive EDC'd for the last 2 years. Quality of the knife. it is less than a $50 knife so the grind of the edge and the flat grind have some waves, and the flat grind has some very slight high and low spots, you cant feel it but you can see it in the reflection of the blade, does it affect the performance no, its just something i noticed. the lock up and blade centering are great, I really like the g10 handles and the thick liners, ill take the width and weight. thats another thing Ive always criticized spyderco about, the handles are too slim for me I cant get a good grip, I have the same complaint of the kershaw leek. I have medium hands and the handle size and that thumb hole always made them slow difficult and uncomfortable to me. The tenacious is not like that at all, the handle fills your hand well the thickness and width are great and since i can get my finger around the handle the thumbhole doesnt impede opening like it does for me on the other spyderco models ive held. All in all a great knife and a fantastic deal at the price, the tenacious persistence and the ambitious are all great buys, you are getting a whole lotta knife for the money, there are few others out there that deliver this much for the price, The kershaw scamp is one thats a $20 folder the skyline is about $45 the RAT 1 by ontario is also a great sub $50 folder thats around $30. there are options but I think with the 3 sizes that spyderco offers in this low cost high value line can fit almost everyones needs. I actually think there are 4 knives of this design but different size, The Resilience is the 4" the Tenacious is 3.375 the Persistance is the 2.75 and the ambitious is the 2.25 blade so there is one in there for everybody and they are all less than $40 usually. great blades at great prices, They have made me look at spyderco more, I really want the paramilitary in that camo/black config delicate blade or not that is one cool knife. Anyway I bought them so I could add some Spyderco's to my collection and im so glad I did I had no intent on using this knife but now love it and I think you will too, If you were like me and thought "no thumb stud, delicate looks,no thanks" at least spend the $20 ish on the ambitious so you can see what you get with the rest I really doubt you will be dissapointed

Razor sharp and solid construction...
I'm a knife guy. There. I said it. I have always carried a pocketknife, for as long as I can remember from childhood forward. About 20 years ago I first heard about Spyderco knives. I started looking into them and couldn't understand why their knives were selling at what I considered to be premium prices. So I ordered one. Once I had it in my hands - I understood completely. The durability, intelligent design, ergonomics, attention to detail in fit and finish, the premium steels, the warranty, the light weight, the speed of deployment - all of these factors added up to a completely different knife experience than I had previously known. I carried Spyderco knives every day for years. In recent years the prices on their primary lines has gone up, as prices tend to do. Some years ago they designed and crafted the Byrd line of knives - great designs, good steel, but in no way the same fit and finish. I own several Byrd knives, and while they're good knives, they're not Spydercos. Now we have an additional option of Spyderco knives crafted in China (rather than Japan or Golden CO). These knives are every bit Spyderco quality, just most often with more common (and far easier to machine) blade steels. This Tenacious is every bit the quality you would expect for a knife twice this price. The edge was razor-sharp out of the box, and I am in no way kidding. One of the running jokes about Spyderco knives for years has been that certain models seem almost bloodthirsty - you tend to get cut on them surprisingly easily. This one qualifies - I didn't have thing 12 hours and managed to lay open the side of my finger in a momentary lapse of attention. Barring losing one of these, they really are the last knife you'll ever have to buy. I would give this knife ten stars if the system would permit it.

5 Pros, 3 Cons...
Pros: 1. This is a high quality and expensive steel for a knife in this price range. 2. The balance of this knife in hand is excellent. It is an easy knife to like. 3. I personally feel that the beefy FFG blade design is excellent for an EDC folder and very well executed here by Spyderco. 4. Fit and finish for the price range is excellent. The knife has an apparent tight and wiggle free lock up, and a smooth opening action 5. Overall price vrs value is 5 Stars for sure. Cons: 1. I will start with the least important Con nit-pick first then ramp up to the more serious issues. First nit pick is that my copy came with just a quick machine applied utility sharpen, just really only a rough profile on the blade. I ran mine over a 800 then a 1200 ceramic then a strop on leather with white oxide rouge to produce the razor edge that this steal is capable of. Results were excellent. So don't settle for the factory out of the box edge, as it's pretty lame. 2. OK now for the more important issues, this one and the next are definitely NOT not nit picks but serious issues. My copy on close examination (10 power loupe) reveals that the frame lock only had a 70% purchase on the blades end locking ridge. Additionally this ridge is machined with a slope towards the release side. That is done, undoubtedly, to allow for mass production so that hand fitting of each unit is not necessary. Frame locks of this type may fail under load, so be aware that your choice of uses and type of work for safe use of this knife must take that into account. That brings me to Con item #3 3. After reading a few reviews here on Amazon and also touring a few Utube Videos, I fear that this fine utility EDC knife may have been seriously oversold as a possible tactical edged weapon. Because of the frame lock design, and the slow opening thumb hole design you should be very careful about relying on this Spyderco in a situation where fractions of a second and impact mechanical durability count. Remember that there is a serious "human stress fumble factor" in the thumb hole opener. However fast you think you are as you flip this fine knife open and closed while casually watching TV in your favorite easy chair, I can assure you that in a dark alley on the street all those masterful performances of yours will change in a hurry, and you may not be able to duplicate them when you need them most. If you feel the need to carry a defensive edge on your person then, in this price range you might want to look at fixed blades like the KA-BAR TDIs. If you just must have a folder then look at Kershaw Ken Onion design Speed Safes which are a fool-proof 3 times faster to deploy and twice as strong a locking mechanism.

I verified this knife to be an authentic Spyderco
I ordered the knife and received it the next day. Shortly after I ordered it, a YouTube influencer made a video stating that Amazon is selling counterfeit Spyderco Knives. I initially attempted to return the item. Before I sent the knife back, I contacted the seller about the issue. I received a reply the next day with validation that the knife is authentic. They get their knives directly from Spyderco and keep tight control of their inventory until the item is shipped to the purchaser. I received my knife in an authentic Spyderco package. I also received all the warranty documentation in the box. As for the knife performance, it is an excellent knife made in China that has several of the high quality characteristic of the models made in the US. The blade has a nice black coating to protect the blade from corrosion. The knife molds and edge for a long time and I usually just strop the blade every couple of days. It cuts through cord, tie wraps, cardboard and tape with ease. I frequently receive shipments at work and have to cut through tape and boxes. The blade cuts all day. The blade can be opened and closed with one hand and is a great knife for those that like to fidget. The pocket clip is very durable and keeps the knife down low in the pocket. I haven’t even come close to having the knife fall out. This is a great everyday utility knife and it is a worker. This knife is made to be used and holds up to rigorous use. It is a great knife for those that are looking for a cheaper model than the ones made in the USA. The seller is great and will answer any questions on authenticity so rest assured you are getting an authentic Spyderco Knife.

Surprising Solid Knife that's ready to do what it needs to
I am a fan of tuff no frills knives. I want them to preform well and hold an edge. My favorite small, utility, EDC is the RAT3. My first version of this knife I purchase when the guys of E.S.E.E knives, formerly Rat Cutlery, formerly produced with Ontario Knife Company. I can not say enough about that knife. Tough and it holds an edge better than any other I have owned. I can filet fish, skin game, cut carpet, widdle wood, you name it, it can be done with this knife. So, I am particular. The RAT3 is made of 1095 carbon steel and comes in at 5.3 oz. Unfortunately, E.S.E.E does not make a folder for my EDC. So I started doing a little research on tough folders. I really wanted to go with an American Made Folder but I kept coming across really strong reviews for this knife and for the price...it was really worth considering. Never owned a Sypderco Knife, and it was between this one and the Paramilitary 2. But I noticed 2 things...the Paramilitary 2 is a little longer but a little lighter. The Tenacious comes in at 4.1 oz and the Para comes in at 3.75. For the durability I was looking for, I thought I needed a little weight. Now currently I am carrying a Buck Ghost Rider. It was a Buck/Strider colaboration and I really liked the look. But it did not perform as well as I thought. First time it hit the ground.....no more tip. Sent it back to Buck and they edged the weapon and have not had issue with it again, but the steel is not my favorite, or the finish. But over all, Ghostrider is really, really solid. The weight and the pummel are absolutly capable for hammering, shattering, and could easily be used to debilitate an attacker without drawing the blade. So I am a fan of that. But the Tenacious is more than I expected for the price. I will follow up in about 30-45 days after hard and regular use to see how it fairs. The shape and quality of the blade is worth 2 or 3 times what I paid. The G10 handle is not as dense as with the Ghostrider but is well made for $35 dollars. I am really suprised it is so inexpensive. The look is pleasing and it is very well balanced. I have fairly standard sized man hands, about 9 in. from tip of pinky to the tip of the thumb when expanded and it fits well when cutting. The ergonomics could not be better for the size/weight ratio of the blade and knife. My only concerns at this point are how well the G10 will hold up after some use and how simple it will be to change the position of the clip. Sometimes I find that when you remove the screws for the first time from a knife they don't fit quite right and I hope that's not the case. I want the knife to position blade up rather than down. If it fairs as well as I expect I will probably purchase a few for my sons as well as gifts. This is an excellent knife for EDC that will more than likely exceed my expectations for a $35 dollar folder.

My first Spyderco, so far so good!
I've had my Tenacious for a few days now and have only used it for minor cutting tasks (paper, opening a couple boxes and letters and cutting a few lengths of paracord) but thus far I LOVE it. The fit and finish are spectacular for 28 bucks. I'll be EDCing it from now on and will update my review if anything changes. The blade, full flat ground out of 8Cr13Mov stainless steel, is absolutely gorgeous. It also comes razor sharp right out of the box, probably the sharpest factory edge I've ever seen. The edge has not dulled at all but as I said I haven't really put the knife through much. If what I've read is true, that 8Cr13Mov is basically analogous to AUS-8 stainless, then I don't think I'll be disappointed. For the price range, the general consensus is that this is a fine steel. The opening action on the phosphor bronze washers was initially kind of jerky and tight, but after a good 20 or so open/closes it loosened up appreciably and is now just about perfect. Blade retention when the knife is closed isn't the best, but it's more than adequate in my opinion. The lock-up on the liner lock is AWESOME. Zero blade play in all directions, and a VERY sturdy feel. G-10 handle scales and skeletonized steel liners provide a strong and classy looking handle. Some have commented that the G-10 is a little too slick for them, but that has not been a problem for me. The pocket clip is also great, very sturdy. Perhaps too sturdy for some, but it loosens up over time so it isn't quite as hard to get on and off your jeans. The 4 way interchangeable design of the clip is fantastic. I like carrying knives tip up and the knife ships as a tip down carry. Changing it is relatively simple as there are 3 torx screws holding the clip on. The top and bottom of each side of the knife have a place to attach the clip so you should be happy no matter your handedness/carry preference. The Spyderco trademark hole makes the knife perfectly ambidextrous. Overall, zero complaints. As I mentioned in the title, this is my first Spyderco and I am thoroughly impressed. Don't let the fact that this was made in China deter you. Spyderco's quality control is fantastic and this is a VERY well made knife.
