Does what it promises
We've already made 4 cakes from this book, and I only got it a month ago.It's exactly as advertised - low-fuss cakes that you can make with stuff you probably have around. The portioning is nice for people who aren't hosting a party, but are also not against some breakfast cake sometimes. The instructions are clear and the substitution suggestions make a ton of sense.Read if: You want something that is almost as simple as a box cake, but much tastier.Skip if: You derive satisfaction from getting Cooks Illustrated recipes to turn out right.

Heard about book from a pod cast
Jake Gyllenhaal was talking about how much he loved making snack cakes from this book. So I thought I’d buy it all of the cake so far are super easy to make. None of them are too sweet and the four or five that I’ve made evolved over fairly well with my work mates and my family, she has beautiful pictures very easy directions and almost fail proof recipes

Fun little book for scratch cakes!
From scratch cakes are super easy with this book! It also shows guests and people you take a dessert to that you took the time to make something for them. Recommend.

The recipes looked and sounded yummy. I haven't had a chance to make anything yet, but I hope I hope I will soon. The vanilla frosting would be delicious on a chocolate cake.

Excellent, easy cakes!!
I continually checked this out at the library before finally buying it. Yossy has made some delicious recipes with basic ingredients that pack a flavor punch while being easy and adaptable. I shy away from baking due to it just being two of us in the house, but these are PERFECT for us. I halve the recipes and am able to get two decent sized personal cakes. Everyone one i know i have told to go get this book and now I am telling you to get it too.Thank you Yossy for improving my life ;)

Love this book. Lots of great recipes and all recipes have options to make changes. I highly recommend this book.

Easy, delicious cakes for everyday treats
I rarely buy or use cookbooks but am so glad I bought this one. The cake recipes are easy, adaptable, and delicious. I’ve probably made about six of the recipes from this cookbook so far and all have turned out great. The recipes follow the same basic steps (dissolve sugar in eggs/egg substitute, whisk in wet ingredients, fold in dry ingredients, bake, glaze or frost) and many can be made with ingredients in a basic stocked pantry. I made the buttermilk vanilla cake with strawberry frosting today and it is heavenly. Highly recommend!

perfect for baking a small cake
This is a wonderful cookbook. One bowl to mix., one pan to bake. Easy peasy. I have made four of the cakes so far and they have all been really good. Highly recommended

Delicious easy recipes
Love this book. Really easy tasty cakes. Anyone can follow this book and the recipes. I like the fact that they don’t take a lot of time but taste really good.

A whisk, a bowl and voilà
The red velvet cake, minus the red food coloring and plus some whipped cream and edible flowers, let the simple ingredients shine through splendidly! I miss baking with my grandmother and a wooden spoon, and this book brought it all back. I will cook methodically through all 50 recipes, you can be sure. This book is an antidote to the aspirational cookbooks to are fun to look at, but unlikely to find a home in your kitchen. Thank you, Yossy Arefi!

Easy and unusual recipes
We've baked 3 cakes out of this book and all have been wonderful. The chocolate chip espresso cake and the powdered donut cake both deserve special moreish mention. Brilliant to break out of our chocolate sponge cake rut.The recipes all need a single bowl and so are simple enough for my 10 year old to do on her own. We've used the UK measurements without any issue. I had to do a little translation from my daughter (baking soda; confectioners sugar; all purpose flour) but not really an issue.I love that each recipe includes info for using different size/shaped pans and so is just really practical to use. No weird ingredients either, and the author has a laid back attitude to substitutions which is great for a bit of experimentation.
