. The other pinch collar has vanished. This replacement pinch collar is much better made and designed than other collars on the market. It WILL QUICKLY train a Head Strong dog (aka Min-Pin or Bullmastiff)) to behave while on a leash. However..., the owner must be very careful of the powerful nature of the pinch collar. The collar will give the owner AND dog a much more pleasurable walking experience, WHEN used properly. No more CONSTANT PULLING, LESS LIKELY to bolt off in persuit of other animals and over all manageability of your dog. Eventually you will be able to switch to a NORMAL COLLAR...., but that will take time, pacients and proper training. Do NOT ALLOW children the handle your dog with this collar ON..., unless of course the child has the proper training and skill level to do so with adult supervision. Make No Mistake this collar is a powerful tool for training only. Used improperly the collar can do more harm than good. I trained my Bullmastiff with a collar very similar to this one. Within a matter of a week of daily training and Voice Control..., I could easily take her for a walk on nothing more than a THREAD..., for a leash. At that point..., I had full Verbal Control over her (I wouldn't try that trick just ANYWHERE, I might add!-). She is prone to suddenly forgetting ALL training in a moment and do as she pleases (that can be a very bad situation, that I would NOT allow to happen, thus constantly exercising due diligence is a MUST). Regardless, this collar is the best of the best. You can certainly spend more on similar products, but why? This collar works quite well, is very well designed and sturdy enough for the most difficult breeds.

Wow, what a difference! We didn't want to try this collar other than a last resort, but why I'm not even sure. We've been through many things already though. We have a Samoyed, and they are known for pulling but, we can't have that on walks. He was pulling so hard he was choking himself. A little history. We had him in puppy training, flat collar at first. We tried stopping every time he pulled. "Oh we stopped, cool I'll just pull pull pull until we go again." Or "Oh we stopped, cool I'll sit, wait we're going again!? PULL PULL PULL!!" We tried turning around each time he pulled. "Pull pull pull THIS way, we're turning around! GREAT, PULL PULL PULL THE OTHER WAY!". Or pull sideways constantly trying to sniff things or get at other dogs. It was awful. We tried treats for "heel" and redirecting, wearing him out at the park before a walk; nothing was working. We also tried a 'soft limited slip' also known as a martingale as recommended by the breeder. Didn't matter, he pulled like a mad-man. We tried the Halti. He learned to pull with that too, plus I didn't like how it looked. Samoyeds are very fluffy and it just didn't work out. We also tried the Gentle Leader which despite custom sizing in the chest, really didn't work out. Our dog just learned to LEAN against the pull-around motion and keep at it. It really came to a head when our dog was basically jerking me all over the sidewalk, slamming me into door frames in his haste to exit the house, and making it virtually impossible to hold the leash with one hand and use the other to do ANYTHING, like open the gate at the dog park. After one particularly embarrassing day at the dog park where I got dragged away from the gate a few times, I did some research and bought this collar. Wow, just night and day. The dog doesn't mind getting it put on, and once I got the hang of it, it's not too hard to get on and off. I looked at videos on how to put it on, where the placement should be, and everything to make sure it was done right. Now although he doesn't walk entirely on a 'loose leash' but he's not putting any pressure on the leash, even when he sees another dog. It just took one lunge where he pinched himself in the action to learn. I even did an hour long walk the second day we tried it, where we came up behind a slow walker with 2 tiny dogs, and all my dog did was whine a little bit, but otherwise there was NO pulling, NO lunging, nothing! I can walk the dog using just one arm and not both, and don't have to worry about getting pulled off my feet when trying to pick up dog waste or sparing one hand to get out the water bottle. It's fantastic. The collar itself looks well-made and all the prongs are polished and rounded off. I tried it myself on a leg and it's not bad at all. We're hoping that a little time with this, combined with a little more maturity for the dog, we can go back to a regular collar, but in the mean time the walks are both way more enjoyable, and longer distances aren't making my arms feel like they are being ripped out of their sockets.

My dog is a rescue with some very bad habits and mannerisms. She's a Boxer/Lab mix and incredibly stubborn. She's a big, strong dog and would pull incredibly hard the entire time we walked, which made walking her a chore and therefore something I began doing less and less. A friend posted a collar similar to this on Facebook that she had purchased for her dog that had issues with pulling during walks and swore by it's effectiveness. I found this collar for $20 and figured it was worth a try. Our first walk using the collar was night/day compared to without. Initially, out of the gate she made the mistake of doing her normal psychotic pulling and found out the hard way that was a really bad idea with this collar. The collar isn't meant to hurt or injure the dog, but instead gives the dog an pinching sensation that gets more intense the harder they try to pull on the leash. Therefore, it makes them constantly self-correct and keeps them from excessive pulling. Does my dog dislike wearing it? Even though my dog cannot pull like she used to, she still gets super excited to go for a walk and has no issues with putting the collar on. She's a really smart dog and when she doesn't like something she let's us know and while the collar is uncomfortable for her when she is misbehaving, she generally has no issues wearing it and doesn't shy away from walks because of having to wear it. Overall, I give this collar 5 stars because it is made well and has absolutely corrected my dogs pulling and misbehaving during walks, so now walking is enjoyable for us both. When we walk now, the leash is slack for about 95% of the walk. Have a dog that pulls like a maniac to the point you no longer want to walk them? You need this collar. Period.

Our 5-month old Great Bernese is in a puppy (read owner) training class and while he's calm at home, he was absolutely the wildest, most out of control when in a room of other pups and people he wanted to get close to. I would have NEVER considered a prong collar had the trainers there not recommended it. It changed everything and though very expensive, was money well spent. He now respects where the end of the leash is and pays attention to us. One star demoted because it's hard to figure out and as others have said, it's a pain that you have to buy the buckle separately and that the cover falls off. I highly recommend for dogs like mine (large, thick coat, willful), but only with a trainer's supervision.

I have two rescue black and tan coonhounds that are house pets. Since they are high energy dogs and need a lot of exercise, we go on A LOT of walks. Prong collars make this possible, and the Herm Sprenger ones are by far the best. I bought this 12" collar for my 60-pound female (with extra links since she has a 16" neck). The coonhound rescue recommends the 2.25 mm prong size for coonhounds. Not sure why... maybe it is because their coats are thin and their skin is sensitive. Anyway, I added enough extra links to the collar to put it on my girl and she loves it. She can slip any flat collar unless it's throttling her, she pulls like a plow horse with a martingale, and while the Gentle Leader headcollar basically worked, she HATED it. The prong collar keeps her secure while still giving her the freedom to use her head to sniff and explore. I do suggest anyone who wants to use a prong collar should work with their dog so it's not necessary to rely on the prongs for control. I call my dogs to me before I yank on them. They learned very quickly to pay attention. However, when there is a fascinating scent that lures them irresistibly into danger, I am SO glad the prongs are there to back up my voice commands. If you walk a dog with a high prey drive, the prong collar is an invaluable tool! UPDATE: Wanted to add some extra info in here since I have learned a lot about prong collars since I first wrote this review. First--you almost always want the smaller link prongs. The smaller links are not for smaller dogs. They spread the pressure of the prongs over a larger area, so you don't get a lot of pressure on each prong. This gives you better control PLUS it protects your dog from being injured. Some dogs insist on pulling and the larger prongs can damage their throats. It's less likely to happen with smaller prongs. Second--prong collars can break. I have to of these excellent collars and have not had a moment's trouble with them. However, just in case, I use a dominant dog collar in addition to the prong. Other people I know thread the lead through a link on the dog's flat collar or harness, as a backup. You SHOULD have a backup... Ideally, the prong collar will never break, but in reality they can. Third--a prong collar is not an excuse to avoid teaching your dog to heel! Train your dog! Dogs should not walk down the street with constant pressure on the collar. They will just ignore the discomfort after awhile, and the prongs CAN injure your dog. Constant pressure, jerking the dog too roughly, tying a dog out with a prong collar, etc. all constitute improper use of a prong collar. Ideally, you should be able to walk your dog as if there was no lead or collar at all. The prong collar is there for the 10% of the time that your dog can't be trusted to walk nicely. You shouldn't constantly need to rely on it.

So you owe it to yourself and your dog to buy this training collar. It literally has transformed how my dog acts and behaves on leash outside and allows me to actually take him for walks without much less occurrences of aggression and crazy behavior towards other dogs or just in general. My dog is great, but he's always been hyper aggressive on leash. He lunges and barks like a raging lunatic when I take him outside or for a walk and he sees another dog! So I was recently reading some good stuff about training your dog with leash aggression as well as watching a bunch of great video's online about the topic. And I came across this amazing guy in Upstate NY that goes by the name of Upstate Canine Academy and he has TONS of incredible videos on how and why to train with a prong collar! And long story short, he was 100% right and my dog is a thousand times better on leash now with this training collar. If you fit it correctly (snug, but not super tight) and let the dog do the pulling, he/she will QUICKLY realize they need to stop pulling and just calm down. I've been taking my dog out much more often for walks now that I know he can't lunge as the collar will train him that behavior is not acceptable. And the craziest thing is... that he almost instantly figures it out on his own that this collar will make it uncomfortable or slightly painful if he pulls or pulls really hard. My dog is constantly pulling while we're on walks like he's pulling a sled or something and choking himself out! With this collar, NO MORE! And he is always kind of agitated and nervous when on a leash, NO MORE! He's calm, submissive and chilled out now. If he pulls even the slightest, the collar tenses on his neck and the prongs give him a small pinch and he instantly stops pulling! Long story short is, this collar is a miracle device when used properly. It's NOT a punishment device or to be used with aggresive dogs just to show them who's boss. It is a training tool to be used sometimes to train your dog to walk properly and behave while on leash. And if used properly it pretty much does most of the work for you! I HIGHLY recommend this collar for anyone that has a dog that pulls while on leash or has aggressive tendencies on leash or is a straight up psycho on leash. It's a miracle tool and not only are my gf and I more happy and willing to walk our dog now, but he is much calmer and LOVES being able to go out all the time now. Because he knows if he freaks out or pulls, the collar will get him. And it has calmed him down so much while outside and on his leash. We're so happy for him that he gets to go outside on walks way more often now!

This particular item is the 3.0mm Herm Sprenger sold by & shipped by Amazon I have an old (25 years) Herm Sprenger collar in a smaller size. I ordered this one which is 3.0mm. After reading all these complaints about it being a fake & made in China I was anxious to see if it was true. Guess what, it is NOT true. Yes, there is a paper tag pasted on there saying it's made in Germany but if you actually look at the link (where you connect the leash) stamped INTO the metal it says "Germany". There are also 2 other metal pieces between prongs that has stamped INTO the metal (SPRENGER). This is the real deal! The original one I have is a smaller collar & lighter gauge metal. The one that I received from Amazon is a very sturdy collar & very good quality. The collar, when used properly, is very effective for training & helping keep your dog under control & it will not hurt your dog. Yes, it does cause a little discomfort when you give the leash a little snap or pull but it does not dig into the dogs skin, discolor it or cause any pain. AGAIN, this is if you use ir correctly & NOT leave it on the dog when you are not out walking with your dog. I've tried a variety of collars & harnesses for training dogs...such as chokers (I hate these because they can really do harm to the dog), gentle leader collar (even when used right most dogs hate it & it's not very effective), gentle leader harness (works the same as the collar but dogs don't mind it as much but it is not an effective tool for controlling a dog who pulls, regular harness is good but not an effective training tool to teach dogs not to pull. The prong collar is very effective to teach dogs how to walk calmly on the leash by your side rather than lunging or pulling. All it takes is a gentle snap of the leash when they start to pull & they will immediately pull back. You do not need to pull hard & you should not. Use the lightest pull that gets the dogs attention. Reward good behavior & it won't take long for your dog to "get it" & start walking calmly on the leash. Overall a great product, good quality & an authentic Herm Sprenger.

First I wanted to tell everybody that, I am so grateful for this amazing product. My dog( 80lb, Labrador ) has never had such great enjoyable time when walking on the street,the same to me. He always pulled the leash since little puppy. All my family didn’t like walking him because of his wild uncontrollable behavior while he was growing faster and stronger. Because of this, he is kind lazy and over-weight. I did lots of homework and found out this training collar from one video at YOUTUBE and then watched couple more of people share their experiences using this collar. I ordered it immediately to give a try. I was prepared to return it if this product turns out not quite impressive as stated. I ordered small (the page doesn’t say how long each collar will be. The small means the size of the spikes ,which is still confusing to me. Received the order within 2 days . now we have been using it for a week long and used it everyday. here ws what happened on the first day when my dog wore this collar. The collar doesn’t hurt or affect his breath as long as the collar is fairly tight (if it’s too loose, it wouldn’t be helpful much ). Immediately, my dog realized something in his mind and didn’t pull the leash anymore right after we moved out of house. He followed my pace and stayed close to my side (in the past, he pulled as hard as he can ,trying to break the leash or drug me to follow his pace ). Because the training collar tells him (or dogs learn that as they are smart ) whenever he wants to pull the leash or walk faster than the master, it will hurt because the mechanism is so cool that it forces/trains the dog not to do so that he can feel more comfortable. I didn’t even say a word to my dog not pulling or slowing down like I used to do. Also, whenever I stop walking, he stop as well and looked at me ( should we continue ?) and sat next to me without me giving him command. Amazingly He is now totally ignoring the things (like diet coca can, snack bags,etc) . He is so calm now when seeing squirrel, dogs and people on the street( he used to behavior crazy when he saw things or people. This is why we don’t like walking him so much in the past ). Let’s say if the pain of walking my dog in the past 2 years is 10 out of 10 scale, then now is zero. I barely feel any pulling from him now. We are so happy he is now so normal and calm on the street.

This collar is great training tool to teach my puppy how to walk properly. Research first about how to use it before you using it. It is very easy to put on and off. I use this collar for walks only. Don't keep them on when you are not walking the dog. I bought a second one for extra hook links. If you buy the extra hooks individually it is more expensive.
