Optimum Nutrition Zinc and Magnesium Aspartate Recovery Supplement, 180 Ct

Its good for those who exercise excessively among other benefits. I take this on heavy weight training days or especially after a long run day. Mag, Zinc and B6 are essentials and you can get them other places (foods) but this is a great supplement before bed. These doses although over 100% won't exceed what some consider excessive daily limits. Zinc is about the only one that reaches a lot of common limits. Again, if you eat a super healthy diet (who does) you could always just take two pills as a dose and still get the benefits. Again, I take on heavy training days or that evening before bed to be specific. If you are taking other supplements just read the labels to see which ones you are double dosing on. A few notes on these: Vitamin B6, also called pyridoxine, is a water-soluble nutrient that is part of the B vitamin family. B vitamins help support adrenal function, help calm and maintain a healthy nervous system, and are necessary for key metabolic processes. Vitamin B6 acts as a coenzyme in the breakdown and utilization of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Vitamin B6 helps in the production of neurotransmitters, the chemicals that allow brain and nerve cells to communicate with one another, ensuring that metabolic processes such as fat and protein metabolism run smoothly, and is important for immune system function in older individuals. Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. A balanced diet usually supplies all the magnesium a person needs. Magnesium also helps maintain normal blood pressure and metabolism. Beyond that, a magnesium-rich diet may help protect against metabolic syndrome, a combination of risk factors that can lead to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. ****Because all forms of magnesium can act as laxatives, I suggest taking it with some calcium to balance its effects. The forms I prefer are magnesium citrate, chelate, or glycinate. Avoid magnesium oxide, which can be irritating to the digestive tract. Zinc is a mineral that is necessary for the functioning of enzymes and plays a vital role in many biological processes, including the production of cells that help keep the body healthy.

I hardly ever write a review. I purchase things from Amazon literally a couple of times a week and it’s been months since I’ve taken the time to review it on here. I am a 30 year old female and I don’t think I’ve ever actually had a really good nights sleep in my entire life! Or at least one that I can remember. Not only am I an extremely light sleeper, but I fractured my neck about 3 years ago & im not a fan of taking pain medication so I just kind of deal with the pain and discomfort I often have. It has made getting to sleep at night more of a challenge for me sometimes, but I still never miss my 4:30am workout sessions! But because of this, I am seriously ALWAYS tired. I’ve actually wondered to myself how other people feel and if they’re always as tired as I am, and if my tiredness is just normal and it’s how all humans function?! I’ve heard about ZMA in the past but I was skeptical about trying it. I’ve used NyQuil Zzz sleep aids, melatonin, and a couple of other non medicinal sleep aids. They’ve never worked well enough for me to be impressed and I’ve still always been tired. Last night was the first time I’ve ever taken ZMA. I took it about an hour before I went to bed. I started getting a little discouraged because I didn’t think it was making me sleepy like it should. I took it at about 7pm and by 8pm I figured I would go lay in bed anyway to see if laying down would make me realize I was tired. It wasn’t even 10 minutes after laying in bed that I fell asleep! And I didn’t just pass out like I do when I take NyQuil and can’t keep my eyes open anymore. I felt like it was a “normal” way of falling asleep. I didn’t feel super groggy, but I just closed my eyes and fell asleep. I had VERY vivid dreams like others had mentioned. I don’t mind that because I think dreaming is fun. I only woke up ONCE last night to use the bathroom which is seriously a miracle because I usually wake up every single hour of the night. And when my alarm went off at 4am to wake up and get ready for my workout, I didn’t feel like I should keep hitting the snooze button on my alarm because I just felt wide awake!!! I’m not groggy or anything at all and for the first time ever I genuinely feel well rested! I am seriously impressed with ZMA and I will continue to use it! I will tell my friends and family about it and I’ll most likely never use any other sleep aide again. I highly recommend trying this if you feel like you need to get a better nights sleep. Especially if you wake up early like I do to workout. A good nights sleep is the only way to get a good workout in!!

Great product

Optimum Nutrition is the best supplement provider on the market. In the health industry companies and brands come and go like the seasons, but ON always remains. They make great, affordable, supplements that work and don't add any junk or fillers. This company is best known for their whey isolate and it really is the gold standard for weight lifters and competitors. They also make a very good ZMA, Amino Energy and Creatine supplements. I know that when I buy ON products I'm getting a quality product that won't taste like garbage. If you've tried more than one protein powder, then you know what I'm talking about! I'm going to give it to you straight, this stuff will not increase your sex drive or help you sleep more soundly. I've been using ZMA since 2008 on a 3-1 cycle and I have never noticed a difference between on and off months. What it does do is help you recover while you're sleeping. When I take ZMA I feel less drained and less sore than when I don't take it. There is more than one study out there that links ZMA, Tribulus, and other test boosters to placebos. It may be possible that it helps you maintain a normal hormone level, but it won't increase hormone level production.

I love these pills! I have been taking these for at least 3-6 months now. And I find that I have a BETTER quality sleep with these. I wouldn't say that they make me feel sleepy whatsoever... I have to do things earlier in the day and change my diet to want to fall asleep sooner. But I find that I feel more refreshed with these. I don't feel like I am missing out on something. When I don't take these, I feel like I had the worst night's sleep even if I did get 8 hours. I am an athlete that plays sports about 2-3x a week (pickleball, volleyball and softball). And then I also work out 5x a week. I will tell you that the SIZE of these pills are a bit bigger... so prepare to swallow. These are capsules. So I would NOT recommend cutting into these pills as the ZMA formula will spill out and you will not get the right dosage.

Unfortunately, I am one of those people who has eternally struggled with sleep. Sometimes I lie in bed for hours in a vain search for sleep. If I finally find sleep, I then wake up at least 3 to 5 times throughout the night and I never really fall into a deep sleep. Never. I've went my whole life never really feeling that rested up. I've just gotten used too it. I've tried every pill, drink, tea, etc etc that I've found with varying degrees of success, but I hate taking pills night after night as I know sleeping pills can become addictive and can lead to even further sleep problems. I am an avid lifter and one day while searching for new vitamins/supplements to try I stumbled on someone who highly recommended lifters take ZMA. Intrigued, I researched it and found that ZMA had many great reviews and almost all of them stated how they slept much deeper for a better nights sleep while on this. While I've read many reviews on many other products that claimed the same thing, I decided to try this as well while very skeptical. However, after several months of taking this I can honestly say that for once a product lived up to the hype! While I wouldn't really say it helps me fall too sleep, it absolutely positively does help me STAY asleep!!! And when I wake up I feel like I slept a lot deeper than I've typically slept in the past. I definitely feel like this has helped my recovery time as well, although I don't know if the ZMA itself has done that or that it's just I'm finally sleeping better and deeper and giving my body more time to repair itself. I don't know why and I don't care, I just know that it works!!! Try a bottle, you won't regret it!

Horrible sleep! I took three pills as suggested and was awake all night. The only thing that was vivid for me was staring at my pillow at 4 am - I took the pills at 10 pm. I get much better results with ashwaganda and will be returning this and sticking with something that actually puts me to sleep. First Update: I decided I’m going to keep going with ZMA. Not because it is great, but because I want to give it a fair shot. Maybe it takes some people longer to glean benefit from this product. I’m going to start my review at 3 stars instead of the one star originally. You’ll notice it’s already at a two. That is because on the second night I dropped my dose down to one pill. The idea was to see if three pills where too much and maybe I don’t need that much Zma in my diet. No, that did not help. I took one pill and fell asleep quickly at 10pm. However I was wide awake at 2:30am and could not fall back asleep until 4:45am. I had to be up at 7am. Additionally, every time I take zma I am very groggy the next day. I still think ashwaganda is a better product with similar claims. However I’m going to do 2 pills tonight and follow that for a week before adjusting the star rating again. Just as an aside, I have read several studies on google scholar about zma and there has yet to be a positive correlation between zma and an increase/ decrease in anabolic or catabolic hormones. Second Update: Two pills: I took two and I felt like I was going to be wake all night again. I took them at 8pm and at 11 pm I was wide awake. However, a wave of relaxation came over me and I went right to sleep. I also slept straight through the night. The next morning I wasn’t groggy but I wasn’t full of energy either. I have increased the rating to three stars because I have taken the two pills a few nights and have slept through the night. It hasn’t been great sleep, I still feel tired in the mornings but it hasn’t kept me up either. I will finish this bottle but will not be buying any more after this.

It knocked me out cold at night, this shows that the ingredients are authentic, also the zinc needs time to evaluate, since I got the ZMA for sleep and immunity and hair-loss.

A great product that supports a demanding training regime. I know this works as I have come off it several times in the last two years and have noticed a drop in performance due to poorer recovery rates, this meant easing up on my training regime which I wasn't happy doing. Another benefit of this product is the noticeable assistance in quality sleep. My current work and training commitment means I only get 5-6 hours sleep a night and two 35 minute training session either end of a full days work, this product helps support this lifestyle which isn't bad considering I'm almost 50. Buy it, try it, you will surprised how effective it is.
