Full90 Sports Premier Performance Soccer Headgear

This is a great product. My daughter incurred a concussion after a head on head clash over a soccer ball in the air. She ended up blacked out on the ground with a moderate concussion. She had a tournament 6 days later. ER doctor said only way she could play and protect herself from permanent injury was go wear the Full90. It was light weight, washable, and even has a hole for the ponytail which helps to hold it in place. My daughter hated to put it on, but with her two black eyes and the headgear, she looked pretty menacing! We played next to another team with 7 girls wearing the Full90. Great protection, you may need to fight them to wear it, but it gives you both a real peace of mind knowing you're protected against a concussion.

11 year old Kid says: Protects my head. Comfortable. Not itchy. No one made fun of me. Still can head balls no problem. Teammates say: it looks cool. Teammates parents: we want the to become part of the uniform. Mom says: it doesn't wash great, but it is washable. Easy to adjust. Dad says: Lots of colors.to pick from. This is the new standard for soccer. As a side note, I bought this for kid's bday, but mom didn't make him wear it to practices. It just sat in his bag until he and another kid bashed heads. You can bet he wore it to the next practice. Then he became a ground-breaking, cutting edge, and was the first to have one. So kids, and soccermoms: the kid has to wear it for it to work. Highly recommended. FIT approved.

My daughter has played soccer since she was about 4 years old. She has a passion for the sport and plays it every second she has. She is now 14 and plays it all the time. With soccer comes injuries. One injury I don't want her to have is a concussion. I want to protect her neck and head as much as possible so I thought I would get this for her to use. She is big on heading the ball and for this reason, I thought this would be good. I got it in and she tried it on. It fits really good on her head. I has a lot of padding around it. It is bulky to wear. She doesn't like it for that reason but it does offer great protection. I have other players on the team that do wear this and they wear it all the time. I think it is a great product and will continue to support it.

We now have three of these units for our team and make them mandatory gear for all of our keepers. At a recent sports injury prevention clinic for youth coaches, the head ortho surgeon for the local military academy highly recommended them and said they have started asking their keepers to wear them. I "heard" his wisdom, but didn't act on it. Sure enough ... three weeks later, one of our girls left the field on a backboard in the back of an ambulance after receiving a point-blank shot directly to her forehead while attempting save a shot. Talk about a crappy feeling as a Coach!!! The whole time all I kept thinking about was "what if she was wearing something? I should have acted sooner!" etc., etc., etc. Fortunately, she's going to be okay, but the neuro Doc still took her out of team activities for at least 8 weeks (and justifiably so after the hit she took). So now, we've made these mandatory for both practices and matches for our keepers. Another one of whom just hit her head on the post last week at practice. Fortunately she was wearing the guard, so she "shook it off" and got right back to work. They can be awkward to learn to fit properly the first few times. If the player has a pony tail, the "port" makes that easier, but it's still tricky to get arranged. If you get black (color), they aren't "that noticeable" (which is all the players seem to care about). They seem to take some getting used to for the player, but after a few sessions, the keepers eventually stop complaining :-) Figuring out how to keep the hair out of their face may require multiple hairbands before putting the guard on, but they eventually get the hang of that too. So it's not a perfect design from a usability / adjustability standpoint. But imagining that the designers are trying to walk the line between "looking cool" and yet still actually providing some genuine protection to the key concussion points-of-impact, they seem to have done an admirable job. I would particularly recommend them for youth players transitioning from non-physical play at the beginning levels to first time aggressive play starting around U12'ish. They almost seem to be colliding like magnets (trying to mimic what they see on TV), but yet they haven't learned how to brace or protect yet. Combine that with the fact that this age group is more at risk for long term damage from concussions, since they are still developing. I even tried one of them during heading practice, and it does actually make headers a LOT less uncomfortable and I didn't notice any particular loss of speed / distance, or ability to aim where I wanted. So now I'm going to see if I might actually be able to try to convince some of the field players to wear them too?? We'll see how that goes ....

We had seen a few of these protective devices on girls on a few club teams. I attended a league meeting where they brought up the fact that the Centers for Disease Control had a online training program for concussion awareness [...]and that it was going to be something that coaches and league officials were going to have to have to take in the near future. I went home and ran across some information from a British Journal of Sports Medicine from 2005 - that concluded that protective headgear made it 3.5x less likely to have a concussion from playing soccer if this headgear was worn. That was enough for me - I checked out the various brands, styles and then read the reviews. I ended up ordering the Full90 Premier for my 10 year old. She has had it for about 2 months and has worn it since it arrived. I was concerned that if her teammates made fun of it - that she would not wear it. That has not happened, and she has worn it for Rec, Club and indoor. She does get approached by parents on her teams and opposing teams who are interested in what it is, and they want info for ordering when they see it up close. The Premier - at least the newer model with the logo on the botton larger front panel - fits very well on her head. It has some moisture wicking capability, has a criss-cross style back on it that helps keep it in place, and has Velcro adjustable tabs on the back to customize the fit. It is not obtrusive and it is very lightweight. People have thought that it was nothing more than a 'sportier' headband. Just watched a 'Rock Center' NBC show about the damage that can occur from head injuries sustained by girls in soccer, so I am sure that more people will be ordering these and they will be popping up on a field near you soon. The more I talk to people on the sidelines and at league meetings - the more kids I hear about that have sustained concussions before they even reach HS. Someone remarked - they have to wear shin guards to protect their shins, but they do not have to wear anything to protect their heads. Seems to make sense to me. While wearing this device reduces the changes 3.5x and that may not seem like a lot - your kids only have one brain and we should do what we can do make sure they are protected until they can make their own decisions.

I bought a classic fit size 4. What I liked: Quality is good. Back padding is awesome. What I didn't like: Sizing is wrong (way wrong) Replacing the item for a different size does not work. No matter how many times you try. Background info: I bought a size 4 like I said. That didn't fit although it should have fit big by the chart measurements. I started a replacement because of it. Amazon quickly found me a replacement and started it. Well not quite like that. They sent me a size 5 slim fit (no padding in the back) which for ice skating doesn't work. They also made a one to one replacement (giving me a cheaper version of it!) Returned it, then got a different size 5, now classic fit. The replacement had hair!!!! white hair all over, not sure if dog, cat or alpaca hair for what matters. All full of white hair. I returned it because of it and bought a different brand

I've read many reviews on this product prior to purchase. Some from people with IQ's north or 150, some half that. I've researched it online and I have seen MD's weigh in on the subject. What I have realized is that the opinion you get is relative to the basic understanding or simple physics and that usually has a direct correlation to the aforementioned IQ without regard to letters behind a name. Once you understand that concussion is an injury of deceleration, rather than acceleration, it's easier to understand the practical use of this product. To explain the mechanism of acceleration with rapid deceleration as it pertains to head injury, you must apply Newtonian formulas to calculate forces on the head and brain. These formulas assist in calculating the stresses and energy displacement, such as in motor vehicle crashes. Severity of head injury, measured as the force of acceleration and deceleration, can be determined from such analyses. Deceleration, which must by definition follow acceleration, is the key to the forces in concussion. Deceleration is negative acceleration or decreasing velocity over time. I cannot post the formula for calculating such because it doesn't format, but just assume there is one and it's real. Anyone with a basic understanding of physics will know that if you place anything that adsorbs energy between an object and another object striking it, you reduce acceleration and therefore limit deceleration as found in concussions. Even wrapping a towel around someones head and then headbutting another will provide some protection from a concussion. If you don't believe me, wrap a baseball in Styrofoam then hit it with a bat and see how far it goes. Remove Styrofoam and repeat and see what happens. Rapid acceleration of the brain and then sudden deceleration when it hits the other side of the skull is what causes the concussion. Reduce acceleration and you reduce forces in deceleration. It's that simple! For licensed MD's and other professionals to state that there is no evidence that this product works is ridiculous. Do doctors weigh in on whether seat belts work, or do we look to engineers and scientists skilled in the laws of physics? Do we ask doctors to evaluate ballistics and offer testimony regarding gun shot trajectory and velocity? I think not. Here's the truth about what this product is and what it does: It's a glorified Styrofoam headband made to look semi-attractive enough for a female soccer player to wear it. Does it work in "reducing" concussion? Absolutely it does, based on the simple laws of physics. Does it "prevent" concussion; of course not, that's just silly! I imagine that if you could get your preteen or teen soccer player to wear a jello mold stuffed with packing peanuts on their head it too would reduce concussion, but that's not going to happen. My 10 year old actually likes the way it looks, and she has the gravitas to wear it with pride. I'm happy knowing that she has something between her head and that other girl's when they collide at full speed. Understanding physics, I know that the little bit of energy absorption it provides can be the difference between a mild concussion, no concussion or a skull fracture. There are 2 questions regarding this product and the answers to them are both 100% certain. 1) Does it help in the prevention of concussion: With 100% certainty it helps prevent concussion. 2) Does it prevent concussion? With 100% certainty it cannot prevent a concussion. When people are savvy enough to understand the difference, the world will be a brighter place!

I remember when these first started being used on the soccer field, I scoffed at the idea of people "wearing pads" in soccer. Shame on me! As someone who is well aware of the risks associated with TBI and someone who's been the victim of TBI (from soccer nonetheless), I of all people should be the last to scoff at a piece of equipment that helps protect against brain injuries. That said, I finally made the wise choice to purchase one for my two boys ages 7 and 16. I have had a lot of trouble trying to convince my oldest son that wearing the product would be in his own best interest, however, he is hard headed and refuses to wear it due to fear of being made fun of. Hopefully his hard head will protect him since he's too embarrassed to wear the one device that certainly would. That said, my 7yo son (who plays U9) loves his and refuses to step onto the pitch without it. He's even set a trend amongst his teammates who have either went and bought one after seeing his or have asked their parents to buy one like his. Personally, I think this particular headgear is well designed with safety and style in mind. Hopefully, U.S. Soccer and FIFA eventually consider making headgear mandatory on the pitch.

I am a 70+ year old active stick curler. I have used a padded ball cap style helmet for ten years. When I saw the Full 90, I decided I would try it. I am very pleased. It provides protection around the head rather than just the back. It is lightweight. I highly recommend this helmet.
