Reclaim Your Usable Backyard Space with Cool Shade
We have a great pool area; however, not much shade to escape the sun between swimming and hanging out with friends and family. We did a lot of research and found these Purple Leaf umbrellas. We bought two 11' and one 10' umbrellas to provide needed shade for sitting areas around our pool. The combination of all three umbrellas gives us 342 sq. ft. of shaded area. The umbrellas also work great in the rain (without high winds). Like any umbrella, they would act as a sail in stormy weather, but they can be collapsed in less than two minutes. They arrived within just a few days and are sturdily built. We love that they have two cranks, one to rotate the entire umbrella and another to angle and fold down. The umbrella fabric is thick and substantial. We also bought the water filled plastic weights to hold down the umbrella. I suggest you acquire the larger water weights to hold more securely. We added landscape stakes on the edges of the water weights to provide more stability. Also, if you're in colder weather, add some antifreeze to the water weights to keep them from freezing and burst in sub-zero weather. We opted to position the umbrellas as far from the sitting area as reasonable to take advantage of the offset. This allowed us to cover the bases with pine straw. One umbrella arrived with only one crank, but a quick email to Purple Leaf resolved that and they sent us one in just a few days. They also followed up to make sure we received the crank - great customer service. We had considered building a patio to provide shade, but our space would have only provided 120 sq. ft. of shade vs. the 342 sq. ft. that we get with the umbrellas. This saved us over $8,000 and provides disbursed shade around the pool vs. us all having to share a smaller space under a patio. Make sure you measure to get the right size for your area. If you haven't had an offset umbrella keep in mind that they provide much more usable shade than conventional umbrellas. This means you have to measure the distance from walls, etc. for proper clearance. Tip: Adjust your furniture under the 11' umbrellas to make sure they clear when collapsing the umbrella. We also love that they come with covers for use during the off season. When setting up the umbrellas use a level to make sure they will look level when they're open. I was able to set these up myself, but if you are not very strong and in good shape, setting the umbrella mast down on the base can be challenging as they are tall and a bit heavy and you have to lift the mast up to clear the base post. Setting up each umbrella should take 30 minutes including filling the water weights. I suggest you use two people to avoid an accident or straining your back. Update 06.22.19 - tried the covers for the first time. They have an ingenious rod that allows you to place on mast without needing a ladder. In our opinion they are worth every cent! 08.30.19 - The umbrellas experienced their first real wind test. A sudden thunderstorm occurred catching us off guard with no time to collapse umbrellas. We could watch outside the windows the umbrellas twisting and turning violently in the wind. I am sure the winds hit 40+ mph. I was sure they would get destroyed. But they didn’t! One base came partially out of the ground even with water weights and hold down spikes. These as any large umbrella will act like a sail in the wind. These are definitely well built, but don’t leave them up if you expect storms. 05.02.22 UPDATE: After three years of use I want to report our experience. The umbrellas have held up in most respects expect the color fastness of the material and velcro ties. The color faded in the second year which is disappointing as less expensive brands we had lasted years longer. They are a dirty looking color. The velcro ties only lasted two years.

Excellent Quality, Beautiful Color, and Great Shade Coverage!
I couldn't be happier with this PURPLE LEAF 10ft Cantilever Patio Umbrella. The turquoise blue color is absolutely stunning and adds a vibrant, resort-like feel to my backyard. It has become the focal point of our patio area and looks much more expensive than it actually is. The umbrella provides excellent shade coverage thanks to its large square canopy, making it perfect for our outdoor dining table and lounge chairs. The cantilever design is a huge advantage because there's no center pole getting in the way, allowing us to maximize our seating space. I was impressed by the heavy-duty construction. The frame feels sturdy and well-built, and it holds up very well during windy days when properly secured. The materials appear durable and weather-resistant, which gives me confidence that it will last for many seasons. Assembly took some time, but the instructions were straightforward and manageable with two people. Once set up, the umbrella operates smoothly and is easy to adjust throughout the day as the sun moves. Overall, this umbrella combines style, functionality, and durability exceptionally well. If you're looking for a high-quality patio umbrella that provides generous shade and enhances the look of your outdoor space, I highly recommend this PURPLE LEAF model.

Loving these umbrellas!
After a fair amount of research and searching I recently ordered 2 of the square cantilever umbrellas (with Sunbrella fabric). They were sold out of the ones I wanted but their customer service was great and they quickly alerted me when they were back in stock and put me in the priority queue for delivery. That was a nice touch. These umbrellas are great! They look good, are well made, and have made a huge difference to our outdoor experience. They are straightforward to assemble and setup. A word of advice... once you fill the bases (purchased separately) they are very heavy and hard to move. My suggestion is to fill them with water only to start (and maybe only part way just enough to keep them from tipping) as you are figuring out placement. Then fill them completely with water and add sand. At the moment I've been using them filled only with water. They sway gently in the wind. That said, there is a lot of "sail area" and with just water in the base it is definitely possible for these to tip. I've lowered them 3 times only -- once prior to a family vacation and twice before major storms. Otherwise, they have been fully deployed. There are drain caps on the sides of the base to release water if you need to lighten them for moving or storage. Getting sand out is another story. When I do add sand (which I still plan to do), I will only add enough to cover the bottoms up to the drain plugs -- that way they should still be moveable once drained of water, but heavier than filling with water only.

I almost cancelled, but then they arrived!
Like the title says, I almost cancelled my order because I honestly believed that we were not going to receive our umbrellas! Let's start from the beginning. We live in the south (Texas) and it can get HOT. What better way to beat the sun than with a pool? But what if that pool is in the sun all day? Let's solve that with a sun shade! Never mind that, those are terrible. UMBRELLAS THEN! We located Purple Leaf on Amazon and I found them to be quite impressive. I really liked the base design and the sheer weight of the base was noted (300 something lbs when loaded). I have seen umbrellas take flight and I wanted something truly sturdy. The umbrella itself looked great, heavy shade material, and they were in-stock! KIND OF... This is where it gets complicated... We ordered the Umbrellas, noticed that they were in-stock, and had prime available. Great! *FOUR WEEKS LATER* - Where is my SHADE?! It's been 100+ for a few days to be fully transparent. So I called Amazon. I was fully convinced that we were never going to receive our umbrellas. They were in forever 'pending shipping' / 'we will let you know mode'. So again, I called. Nice guy on the phone who stated that he understood why we were going to cancel... (nice conversation and we had confirmation of a cancelled order and pending refund) or so I thought... 24 hours later, I get a confirmation that my order was shipped.. What the fudge... Did I still want them? Was Amazon making me get them? Is it life's goal I now have these umbrellas?! Jeff saw my order and made it fulfilled?! 48 hours later, I had TWO large umbrellas. There they were. Just weeks late. I wondered, if I never made the call, 'would they have shipped?!'... That was irrelevant now. Setup: Setup was SUPER easy. You have to order the bases separately and it might be a pain to do so, but whatever, it's there thing. I ordered the: 'PURPLE LEAF Offset Umbrella Base Cantilever Umbrella Base, 32.3'' X 32.3''" Back to setup. The bases are all put together in a large box, clearly labeled and all you have to do is figure out where you want your base and remove the plastic packaging. Super simple. The base looks tough (very hard plastic) and does not appear it will fail. The ports for water & sand installment are on top of the base and are easily located. I purchased the Purple Leaf beige 10 x 12 umbrella and it arrived in a huge box. It was heavy in an awkward way. No high deal, carried it in with my wife and we got to opening the box. Oh how thankful we were when we noticed that they entire thing was assembled! just some plastic on the outside as a cover and then the inside. We did notice that it came with a heavy mounting base that secured to the above base. Good design. I now see why this thing costs so much. I went to my local Home Depot and purchased 200lbs of play sand. I wasn't going to break the bank on this one; each 50lb bag was 5.97 lol. I bought all the necessary sand and brought it home. I learned quick of the method... Open the base port WITHOUT the umbrella installed and begin filling sand. Then after some time, lift up the base so you can make the sand even. Do this a few times until each unit has consumed it's 50lbs of sand. Then add water. THEN attach the umbrella. Method to the madness. End: Once your base is heavy, install the umbrella. We opened the umbrella immediately and noticed that the base would not move; it had to weigh 300lbs or so with the water. Conclusion: They are worth every dime. They are mega umbrellas. I hated the wait. I was sure I was going to be umbrella-less forever. But now we have shade. The setup is easy. The material is great super heavy fabric (like an intense duffle bag material or better) and the crank system works like a charm. Would I buy them again? Yes. TL;DR: Wait is bad. Texas is hot. Umbrellas are good. Beer is best in shaded pool.

Great solution to a covered area
I purchased the Purple Leaf 10'x10' umbrella and the base with wheels for an outdoor patio and pizza oven area. Initially I had considered building a pergola or some other structure until I started seeing reviews for these large cantilevered umbrellas. I am 200% happy with this purchase and feel like it is the perfect compliment to my outdoor space. Here are the advantages for using this product (vs. a fixed pergola or awning): -The umbrella is easy to handle and once you get it installed in the base, one person can make the necessary height and location adjustments. -The build quality is good, and it has a number of base options to secure it either permanently or allow for easy movement from place to place. -The umbrella has a swivel feature to allow you to pivot the entire umbrella surface around for different locations or to provide cover during movement of the sun. -Much easier installation vs a fixed covering; once you have the base secured, it takes about 5 minutes to set this up, and can be expanded or retracted in seconds using the adjustment levers. You could spend days or weeks installing a pergola, might need to get permits, have to dig or modify hardscape, and ultimately you are stuck with a fixed solution vs. this umbrella which is portable. -Compared to ANY kind of fixed awning or pergola, this product is a much more competitive price including purchasing the more expensive adjustable base with wheels (which I recommend and review separately). -I had a minor issue with a shipper regarding the base, and contacted the company (Purple Leaf) who immediately responded to help with a resolution. As other reviews have noted, their customer service is highly responsive. A few things to consider before purchase: 1-Measure your space carefully. Not only are you looking at ground space, but you need to consider overhead areas (trees or wires) and how the umbrella will pivot in proximity to other structures or appliances like a BBQ or pizza oven chimney. I ended up getting a square umbrella as it just made more sense for the space I was trying to cover and was easier to calculate than a rectangular one. 2-If you go with the moveable/adjustable base (which I recommend), keep in mind that it is approx. 36" square so that will take up quite a bit of space. I built a small moveable bench to cover the base out of leftover Timbertech boards from a deck I built. That way people can sit on the bench vs. try not to trip over the 36" square base. 3- I cannot comment on the maximum wind this umbrella will withstand, but it is like a large parachute and even with the top vent, can move quite a bit in the wind. My advice is that when you have wind in the forecast, retract the umbrella and secure it with the retaining strap. I highly recommend this product, and the company (Purple Leaf) and would definitely purchase it again.

Great alternative when awnings are not a solution
I bought this umbrella for my deck sitting area. I have a deck area that is approx. 12’ x 20’ in area that gets direct sun from about 9:00 AM to about 3 PM and an awning just wasn’t a good solution as the only application was on the narrow end of the deck. The Purple Leaf 10’ square umbrella was a good solution for how to get some needed shade cover. It easily provides shade for at least 4 people to sit comfortably in shade as the sun passes thru this deck area during the heat of the day. The construction of the umbrella is top notch. Well engineered, easy to assemble, easy to open and adjust position. I also purchased the Purple Leaf base which is well suited for supporting the umbrella in wind. I feel confident it will not permit the umbrella from tip over, but I would not recommend you leave the unit opened unless you are there using it. It is quite large and has a large surface area to be hit by wind. It it were to be tipped over I do not think it would fare well for the framework and think damage would likely result. I do have a couple of criticisms about the product. Because of its size, the fabric needs to be lightweight in order to easily lift and open the unit. As a result, and due to the fact that it is shipped in one piece with the exception of the base close brace system, even though the box advises the carrier to have two people lift and move the shipment, clearly that almost never is the case. As a result it is often difficult to not experience some packaging damage. Although the box was not punctured, shifting must have occurred and the fabric at one of the corners of the umbrella has a small abrasion tear about 3/8” in length. A disappointing find but with a little matching thread I stitched up the tear and hope this will last. It’s not worth the hassle of trying to present a claim for this issue and I certainly don’t want to face the hassle of shipping the product back, it’s a huge box. Lastly, the other item that in my view needs a bit more thought is the two crank handles. They work fine, but neither one attaches securely. They use a snap ball like a ratchet socket and there is not enough snap to hold them secure. For the minor tear and the crank handle design I would rate the product with 4 not 5 stars.

Excellent Quality & Amazing Shade!
I absolutely love this PURPLE LEAF umbrella! It was surprisingly easy to assemble, and the instructions were straightforward. Once it was set up, it was just as easy to open, close, and adjust throughout the day. The coverage is fantastic and provides plenty of shade on my deck, making it so much more enjoyable to spend time outside during the hot summer months. It feels sturdy, well-built, and looks beautiful too. The quality definitely matches the price. If you're looking for a stylish, durable patio umbrella that offers excellent coverage and is simple to use, I highly recommend this one. It has been one of my favorite outdoor purchases!

quality product
Quality product, excellent and responsive customer service. Purchased 2 large umbrellas in 2025, and they assembled rather easily. I live on the water front and wind is a big factor in my decision. Just recently in 2026 I had opened 1 of my 12x10 umbrellas on a breezy day. It held up fine until a large 40+ mph gust came thru and threw the umbrella over. 2 of the ribs were damaged (bent) when it hit the ground. I Reached out to customer service THE NEXT DAY and they responded immediately looking to send me replacement ribs. When I was assessing the ribs that were damaged, I realized at closer inspection that the canvas material had a 3-4" tear. At this point I decided to just purchase a new replacement umbrella which I did. I let customer service know that I no longer needed the replacement ribs and that I just decided to purchase a new umbrella. I did ask them if there was anything they can do for me on the purchase of new umbrella. They stated to send them the new invoice and offered a 10% ($45) rebate credit on the new umbrella I purchased and proceeded to credit my account immediately after the fact which they were really not obligated. Thank You and a Purple leaf fan for life.

Lost pins after couple of use
The quality of the umbrella and the supporting bars look perfect but the pins of one supporting bar of the umbrella popped out after couple of days of use when opening the umbrella. Pins are nailed and not screwed. Pins of the supporting bars seem to be the weakest point of the parasol. Is it worth buying an expensive parasol if it falls into parts in a regular use ?

Incorrect and misleading description.
Good product but details said that "cross base" was included. No it isn't and the instruction booklet states that it's an optional extra. I now have to get one made which I find totally unacceptable.
