Pioneer Electronics USA Retail Slim DVD/RW Writer DVR-XD10S5PK

Avoid The XD10. Get an earlier model. Pioneer usually makes great stuff but this one is a dud. I assume this was a budget model they put out as the DVD market was dying out. I have an XD07 drive that has lasted decades (like most of my other Pioneer stuff.)

Am using with Windows XP laptop after built-in drive stopped working. Looks more slick than expected from pictures, and has been working great with reading CDs and DVDs and writing CDs (I have not yet needed to write a DVD). Is quite compared to past drives I've used, can tell when it's working but no obnoxious noise like with other drives I've used, even at full speed. Has been working fine with just one of the two USB plugs provided, and the top-open design is nice and convenient to use while not having to worry about keeping space clear in front of it as with a slide-out.

Sometimes I have trouble getting this drive to read my discs - blank (for burning) or not (movies). It's slow, sometimes it takes a short break while it tries to read, sometimes it gives me errors. Is it perfect? No. Is it less expensive than Apple's SuperDrive? Oh, yes. The drive works, just not perfectly, so I'm okay with it. As long as it does what I want - and those tasks are not mission critical - then I am satisfied with it. Just note, however, that it ain't no SuperDrive, and if you really need dependability, then you might want to kick in a few bucks more and by Apple's offering. Did I mention I use this on a Mac?

Works well for an external drive. I built a machine and this is better alternative than internal drive. When I replace the computer I will not need to put an internal drive into the next one

Had purchased 2 others that didnt work on arrival and sent them back. I decided to try this top loading Pioneer and it works perfectly. I didnt bother to load the Nero that came with it. I just plugged it into my DLink powered USB hub and the computer recognized it immediately. Its fairly quiet and smooth running.Works great on burning DVD-R videos. It was shipped in only a padded envelope which I thought pretty stupid, but it arrived in one piece. A UPS miracle. UPDATE: 5/10/2012. I spoke to soon. Lately DVD's are "skipping". Tried different brand, same problem. Oh well!! More Chinese crap. Sent it back.

This has no power for eject it is manual and that doesnt explain when you read the description it looks like power from the picture. So they would not take the product back

This DVD/WR Writer is extremely lithe and thin. Excellent for use in ultrabooks or netbooks that didn't have optical drive. The only problem is my Ubuntu 11 didn't recognize the device and I am searching for a Linux driver for it. Since I have due boot feature with my ultrabook, I can always boot up Windows to copy files over. I am pretty confident that I will be able to locate a linux driver for this device soon.

I had bought a different DVD drive for about the same price as this one, but when I received it, I was disappointed in how flimsy it was, so I returned it. The Pioneer device seems more substantial and sturdy. It's very basic. When you eject the disk on your computer, it merely unlocks the lid. You have to open the lid and insert or remove the disk manually. The drive has two USB connectors, but with my iMac I needed only one USB connector. I'm happy with this purchase.

DVR-XD10Jと迷って、価格でこちらを選択。 ぱっくり貝のように開くので、ディスク交換は楽。 読み込み・書き込みともに問題なし。 なおリージョンは設定されていませんでした。

この商品を購入する際に気になったのはDVR-XD10Ｊとの違い。価格が安い分何かあるだろうと思ったが、まず取説が英語とスペイン語のみ、というよりDVR-XD10Ｊが国内向けに対し、こちらは米国向輸出モデルのようである。ハードの性能的には同じようだが、付属CDの書き込みソフト内容が全く違う。DVR-XD10Ｊの方はサイバーリンク社の「Power2Go 7 for PURE READ、InstantBurn v5や、パイオニアドライブユーテリティソフト」が付属しているのに対し、こちらの書き込みソフトには「nero version９」というものが付属。全て英語版。書き込みソフトを別途用意するなら問題はないかもしれないが、但し、DVR-XD10Ｊの特徴でもあるCDオーディオの原音リッピングを可能にする「PureRead+」という機能が「パイオニアドライブユーテリティソフト（非売品’）」が付属していないため使えない。リッピングが目的の人にとっては商品価値半減である。付属の2本出しUSBケーブルは2本ともを接続出来る環境でないと、1本のみだと読み込みエラーになる確率がとても高い。対策として専用電源DCA-001（本体とほぼ同じ価格だが...）を別途用意出来れば、USB1本接続でOK。動作環境はハード・ソフトともWindows７までとなってるが、当方のWindows８環境で、全てを検証したわけではないが、主な機能は大丈夫だった。まあこの価格だから文句は言えないが、高速回転時の音はうるさく、その割には書き込み速度は遅い。

購入したパソコンの付属DVDライタ-を、書き込みできる本器に取替ました。思うことができて、スッキリしました
