SOG Specialty Knives & Tools F17N-CP BadAxe BackCountry 2-In-1 Axe with 3-Inch Straight Edge Steel Blade and Black Molded Nylon Sheath, 16-Inch Length

Goes hiking with me through the Appalachians and has served me very well. Has held up to some pretty serious usage and still functions well. The hand saw -could- be a little more sturdy and ergonomic - the handle feels almost like it was an afterthought - but will get the job done much better than some other survival hand saw options.

I REALLY WANTED TO BELIEVE IN THIS AXE/SAW AS IT HAS THE BETTER SHEATH, HARD NYLON, THAN THE Schrade SCAXE9 Large Axe 3Cr13 Stainless Steel Blade with Folding Saw. BUT THE TRUTH IS IT DOES NOT HOLD A CANDLE TO THE SCHRADE. I TRIED IT OUT ON A 1" PINE TREE BRANCH. IT TOOK 7 HITS TO CUT THRU THE BRANCH. EACH TIME IT HIT THE BRANCH IT WOULD TRY TO BOUNCE BIT AS THE BLADE WAS DULL AND HAD NOT BEEN SHARPENED BY THE FACTORY. IT IS ALL BUT IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE TINY SAW BLADE WITH GLOVES ON. TH ONLY REDEAMING FEATURE OF THE INFERIOR AXE/SAW COMBO IS THE MOLDED NYLON SHEATH WITH BELT CLIP. I WISH ALL MANUFACTURES USE MOLDED NYLON SHEATH.I ALSO BOUGHT THE SCHRADE SCAXE9 LARGE AXE / SAW COMBO AT THE SAME TIME. IT IS LIGHT YEARS AHEAD OF THE SOG WHICH IS A TOY. IT TOOK 2 SWINGS OF THIS AXE TO CUT THRU THE SAME BRANCH. IT IS RAZOR SHARP FROM THE FACTORY. PLUS THE FOLDING BLADE CAN BE USED WITH GLOVES ON. BUT THE BALLISTIC NYLON CASE IS JUNK.

Great conceptHowever between the vibration in the handle and the terrible handle on the saw this is better in concept rather than reality.

Nice addition to my camping collection. The ax head is sturdy and well shaped for splitting kindling. The saw is well constructed and together they are a great dual purpose tool.

I just got it so I'll have to take out to the field and give a test, but here are the first glance negatives~it does need sharpened when you get it. At least mine does. It actually weighs more like 2lbs 3.2oz. Also the way the saw snaps into the handle seems like after use or even abuse it would stop working as well as to were the saw would come out. The saw will work fine but it could be a bit more robust (it kinda shakes in the handle, I never like that). Other then that the axe handle and the shealth does seems solid. Which was a concern I had. It seems pretty light, and after a nice sharpening I bet it will work very well.

Cheap plastic axe. Not up to SOG's usual standards. Imported from Asia.

Got the item for my Nephew, who goes camping and he loved it, we all know the quality of SOG, between the vendor prompt service and SOG it was a winner!
