Question 1

After applying this to bare plastic, do I need a primer before the base coat? Or can I just apply the base color coat to this?

What this stuff does is essentially chemically break down the surface of the plastic so that when you paint, which you must do immediately, the color binds with the dissolved plastic and as the adhesion promoter dries/evaporates you are left with a surface where the plastic material and the foreign material (paint) is dissolved together. This allows the next coat to bind with the first coat and the third coat to bind with the second and so on.  Don't wait for this stuff to dry.  Follow the directions on the can carefully.  If you let it dry then the plastic has already re-formed and your first coat is not going to bind.

Just curious.  Does the product's label indicate how much area 1 can covers?  Thanks in advance.

Can you use with Auto Air Colors?

As long as you use it over plastic and foll the instructions, yes. I let it just det dry to the point that it doesn't look wet and start painting. I have used it for years an had zero adhesion failures on plastics.

Question 4

I was looking online for how to save and seal a rusted patina.  Automotive spray sealers came up, and I'll add this first. Thoughts?

I used this product as a primer when painting old vinyl faux shutters on my house. The surface was "chalky" and I was worried about long term adhesion of my color choice. I used TSP to wash them, then primed them with this stuff, one good coat. Then 2 coats of aerosol paint. They look great a year later.  It gave the shutters a "tacky" feel when dry and the paint adhered well. Gotta follow the directions which require the paint be applied within 10 minutes as I recall. It's not intended as a finish coat. It did dry clear so it may suit your needs.  Good luck. I priced it around and found it a lot cheaper at a big hardware/farm supply store.
