My experience with the Octomask.
I have a X4 360 camera and a TG6. I really wanted to film me scuba diving. However, I don’t have a lot of dives so I’m not ready to focus on holding onto and positioning a camera. I thought I could just strap the camera to my face. Hit record on the surface and only have to focus on it not falling. I could also put a strap from the camera to my shoulder just in case it did fall. I read a lot of reviews and thought I’d take a chance on the Octomask even though it was bit pricier. The other’s seemed much cheaper made, per the reviews. The Octomask is made for a GoPro but my X4 cases fit into the mount of the mask. It did move a little bit but this was resolved by applying the little sticky circle things that came with my X4 to the waterproof case. The camera totally stayed on during 5 dives just great. One time it moved forward, pointing the camera down instead of straight ahead. I felt it happen and moved it back into place just fine. I loved the point of view of the 360 videos and it was easy to convert those to normal videos easy because it moved along with me. The one drawback with the 360 video was if I turned all the way around the video showed my forehead. But it’d work great for 180 or normal video. After having it for 8 months one of the pins fell out that connected the mas k to the strap. I couldn’t find the pin. I contacted Octomask customer service. Within a day they got back to me and are sending me a new one. I loved the mask and the customer service. The only thing I don’t like about the mask is it seems like there is no way to change out the silicone strap. The strap is great for a silicone one though.

Design flaw will deteriorate over time due to cheap materials.
In all honesty, I gave this brand and the reviews the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, that was my first mistake as the mask did not end up being what I expected. First and foremost, I would like to mention that prior to purchasing this mask, I did not try it on in a store (Yeah I know, my bad). But the lack of photographs of this particular mask caused me to go out on a limb and try it out. The main problem I have with this mask is that the plastic mount for the gopro cracked in two different spots. This is located on the end where the metal nut holds the gopro mounting screw in place. Without this mechanism, there is no way for the gopro to attach securely. After observing the masks defect, I noticed the design flaw which is a plastic housing to hold the aluminum nut in place. I can see that anyone who purchases this mask will most likely experience wear on the flimsy plastic gopro mount over time. The worst would be for you to capture the fish/video of a lifetime, only for it to get knocked off your head because the mount is so brittle, causing you to lose your gopro 1000 ft on the ocean floor.Other than that complaint, the mask is not low volume (which it is not advertised to be) but it fits comfortably. The skirt is thick and creates a nice seal on my wide face. The glass is thick, heavier duty than most dive masks on the market. Along with heft comes extra weight, and this mask is no exception. It weighs heavier than any mask I've owned and is not suitable for free diving. I am not a scuba diver so I can not speak on behalf of scuba divers. I have a short asian nose so the bottom side of the skirt did not have any issues fitting my face/nose. The rubber is not too thick that you can't feel your nose while equalizing, but thick enough to form a comfortable fit.Overall, I do not recommend this mask if you are going to attach the gopro to it. It's too heavy and not suitable for free diving. The gopro mount is made of brittle cheap plastic that will crack and disintegrate over the seasons of use in the ocean. I would like to see an aluminum or carbon fiber mount system in the near future. Or if anyone would like to make money on that idea, go ahead and use my idea. Just send me a mask so I can test it out. Hope my review convinces you to look elsewhere for a mask.A couple of months later...I was contacted by octomask regarding my review of their product. I must say, if all businesses conducted business like this company, the world would be a better place. They called me on the phone and offered to ship me a replacement product free of charge. After receiving a non defective product, I was able to test this mask out on Catalina Island. This mask did not leak and although I said earlier that it is not suitable for freediving, I've dropped down to 35ft with no issues. I used it for 4 days on the island and now it's my favorite mask. I truly appreciate the professionalism of this company and I hope they create other products in the future of this quality. Needless to say, I liked it so much that I bought a second octomask. Although it's not the exact same mask, I chose the dual lense in hopes to reduce internal volume. This was achieved however, the mask leaks and I'm clearing the mask every 30 seconds. Either way I am pleased with this company. I only wish their product quality was consistent along their entire line of products.

Love this mask
What an amazing mask. The rubber material is super soft and conforms to your face. This is one of the few masks I can use where I don't get leaks because of my mustache. Huge bonus that I can mount the gopro securely to it!

Loving this for the pool and the ocean
It's been great to have this mask for my trips to the pool with my kid who is learning to swim! I take videos of her and show her how she looks and what she's doing well and what she could do differently. Also love it for the ocean, easy to see and stays put on my head without having to re-set it a bunch. Super light even with the mount on the top.

Good fit and feel on face. Mounting mechanism - some room for improvement.
I like the frameless single lens style. It fits well on my face and has a good viewing angle. Easy to adjust also.Used it in my recent scuba diving trip to Australia, with my GoPro camera. I figured that having the camera mounted on your head, has definitely some advantages, but also, depending on what are you trying to film, could have some disadvantages as well. Here are my comments:- Setting the camera at the right angle for the best close-up framing might take some experimentation. After my first dive, realized I had it tilted down a bit too much, so I lost the upper part of some of the best scenes.- For close-up scenes, having the camera mounted on your head might not be the best option, as your face would come too close to the subject (kinda risky). Better holding the camera in you hand, away from your body.- If your body comes close to a vertical position during the dive, the air bubbles from your regulator will interfere with your filming. Stay horizontally as much as possible so that the bubbles are released though the back of the camera.- During my third dive, the battery in my camera ran-out. Obviously, I was not aware about that, as I could not see the camera. So I continued spending time around the reef trying to capture scenes from different angles, with a dead camera. I realized only later that I was wasting my time.I think most of the issues described above could be eliminated if the designers of the mask would come up with some sort of a quick-release mechanism, allowing for an easy mounting/un-mounting of the camera under water for those close-up scenes or just to check on it from time to time. It would make the whole thing much more practical and versatile. Hopefully they are paying attention.
