My son says this is very comfortable, but has only used it for 1 minute so we will find out when the season starts. I wanted to get on here to share our experience. We had to redo the process once as we had way too much material in front of the front teeth. The mouthguard would fall out immediately. On our second try, I made sure to push up against the front teeth harder than before, before having him bite down. This helped a great deal. We ordered an adult after reading the reviews that the youth was too small. Either we got a repackaged and returned one or the adults are extremely small as well. My son is 8 with a mouth still full of 12 baby teeth. This barely fit him. The back comes to the middle of his only adult molars. I am female with a small mouth that the dentist has to use the small fluoride trays on and this does not fit my mouth, it is too small!!! We are heading to Dick’s today to see if they have both the youth and the adult in stock so I can see which one we actually got. Overall product looks like it will do what it is supposed to, but it is very small so order accordingly. Because it seems to fit my son, I am giving it 5 stars, as that is why we bought it. If it turns out to have been repackaged, I will reduce my review to one star.

This is not my first mouth guard. I train BJJ regularly and have gone through a few mouth guards. The main reason I got it was the choice in colors (silly reason, I know) and that it was not terribly expensive. I only gave it four stars because since getting this mouth guard, I have taken a couple knees to the face and had some inner lip abrasions/lacerations. I'm not really sure if it was something the mouth guard was supposed to protect against. All I know is that I had never had inner lip abrasions with my previous mouth guards when I took knees to the face. I'm willing to bet that it was just random and not the fault of the mouth guard. Otherwise, it has worked perfectly and is comfortable. I wish I could email everyone who complains that it is too small. It's a boil-and-bite mouth guard. When it arrives, it does look way too small. But I'm a big dude and after FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS (I'm sure none of those one-star reviewers did this), it fits great.

I use these for my teeth grinding. It is bulky, but to me it is comfortable and I like it I have had many of these - They are affordable and last a solid two months. Easily shapes to your mouth, but the trick is getting water hot enough. I put water in a microwave safe coffee cup in the microwave for 4 minutes and it was boiling when I took it out. I popped this in for about 60 seconds and it was ready to be fitted. If the mouthguard starts to get smaller, almost as if it is curling up, it means it is ready to be removed from the water and mold to your mouth. Either blow it off or quickly run it under cold water briefly to cool it down, but it will be and should be quite hot when you put it in your mouth for molding. Then press all around the outside and inside of it while it is in your mouth. Do this while butting down and forming the guard to your teeth with your hands and your bite. This is bulky, but it is very comfortable and easy to breathe out your mouth. I’ve never broken crown while wearing these so I will say they sure do work and are sturdy and long lasting.

The fit: The fit of this mouth guard is rather bulky. The front part of the guard is very thick, which can be good for absorbing shock but can be a little uncomfortable because it won't let me close my mouth fully unless I go out of the way to keep my lips closed. Like, if I were to just "rest" my mouth, the guard holds it open a little. If I want to close my mouth, I have to pull my top lip a little forward. Also: If you have a problem with this fitting, just boil it again for about 80 seconds, rinse it a little to cool it down, then follow the directions on the package of biting down and fitting it.. In my opinion it wasn't THAT hot when I did it this way, but I did feel a little heat sensation in my teeth. Effectiveness: It is pretty difficult to talk with this thing in. My training partners and teachers can't really understand what I am saying. For Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, communication is pretty much key in learning so it is an inconvenience to barely be able to speak with this bulky thing in my mouth. Also, to keep this thing securely in my mouth I always have to have my bottom teeth closed. If I open my mouth to yawn, or try to speak, sometimes it'll fall off. All in all, I feel as if it would be a better mouth guard if it wasn't so bulky in the front. I believe that's what makes it kind of uncomfortable, and makes it difficult to speak. I have tried a thinner mouth guard, and my speech is only affected minimally.

I got the adult mouthguard for my 12 yr old son who also has a pretty big overbite for flag football. I don't know how it would fit an adult mouth. The child one I had to return as it was probably for a 3 yr old up to maybe 6 max. I did have to have my son go through the process twice so it would stay on. Make sure you use a spoon to keep the mouthguard submerged as it wants to float. Make sure when you are biting down you really push on the sides of your cheeks in the rear as the rear of the guard tends to want to flare outwards when it's soft from the water. It will not fit all the molars, just the first few. This guard really is only for sports as its not comforatable to wear as a nightguard or anything. This is an impact mouthguard for sports only. Works great for my son and stays on and pops off pretty easy.

Not sure if they sent me a child’s size but I ordered the adult size for my teenager and it was so small we had to throw it away. Had to buy another one at the store since we needed it the next day.

This review is from the perspective of a nighttime user, not an athlete. As a disclaimer, Shock Doctor does state that this product is not intended for overnight use. I've been grinding and clenching my teeth for about 15 years. I've done it so badly that I've caused fracturing and chipping on my teeth and have even ground right through fillings (not cheap!). In that time, I've tried about a dozen different types of night guards, ranging from the cheapest OTC ones to the $500 laser-fitted prescription guards. None of them have worked -- I either grind right through the material or I still clench so hard that I wake up with jaw pain and a headache. Who would've thought that an inexpensive sports mouth guard would be my savior. It's really unbelievable how much this has improved my sleep and overall quality of life! The gel-like mold acts like a cushion to absorb the pressure from my clenching, yet it's still firm enough to stop me from grinding. That cushion effect is the real game-changer; if you're a clencher, this is what you've been needing. It's true that it's a little bulky, but I've found that even though my mouth stays open a bit, absolutely no drool comes out. That was always a problem with past guards, so I like that! As a tip, I recommend running the front of it under water right before popping it in at night. It helps to get the front piece to fit comfortably under your top lip. And, of course, you want to rinse It every morning and wash it with a gentle soap once or twice a week. Bottom line: If you're suffering, you have to try this. For this price, it's worth a shot. I hope that you have the same outcome I have had.

Giant! This is not for normal people with normal mouth. I wish I could get my money back!

Bought it for field hockey after I had my braces taken off. Easily to mould, just make sure you leave it in the hot water long enough. No problems, can talk with it in although it does stick out (expected).

Playing football with these are great, enough airflow to still speak without having to take them off. And feels very secure and comfortable while playing. Feel like I'll keep my teeth around a little while
