2 Hounds Design Freedom No Pull Dog Harness and Leash, 1" LG, Yellow

This harness and leash set is very well made and has made it much easier to control my 80-pound adolescent pit bull/husky mix on walks. He is strong, energetic, and still learning leash manners, so I needed something sturdier and more secure than a standard back-clip harness. The quality feels solid overall. The material, stitching, clips, and leash connection all feel durable enough for a large, powerful dog. The harness adjusts easily and I was able to get a secure fit without it rubbing awkwardly or looking too tight. The front-clip design gives me better control and improves stability when my dog starts to pull or gets excited. It does not completely eliminate pulling — no harness magically trains the dog for you — but it reduces the force and makes him much easier to redirect. His mobility still seems good; he can walk, sniff, and move naturally without the harness restricting his shoulders or chest. I also like the versatility of having both the harness and leash together as a set. It works well for everyday neighborhood walks, and I would feel comfortable using it for training walks or outings where I need a little extra control. Overall, this is a sturdy, well-designed harness and leash set for a medium-to-large dog, especially one that is strong or overly enthusiastic on walks. It is not a substitute for training, but it is a big improvement over a standard back-clip harness.

It's been only a few days, maybe 3-4, since we started using this and it has made a big difference! My dog is medium size (got him M) who is a very strong puller. Good points: 1.) No more hurting for my dog - I was already afraid his throat was hurting a lot when he pulls and pulls on a regular leash attached to his collar, usually when there's another dog in sight that he'd cough and choke after. But he would not stop pulling! The harness removed all that force from his neck. The force of his pull has also lessened. There was one time I was getting a doggy poop bag out to scoop his poop when another dog came in sight and he just bolted after him. I was not ready and really, I thought he could have pulled my arm off my socket. Since then, another off-leash dog has snuck up on us, he was already in this harness, and thank goodness, the pull was not as strong. 2.) No more hurting for me - The old leash I was using also grazed open my skin when he yanked it. That was not a fun night. It's not a problem with this leash, it has smooth soft materials. Although, I have to say, I've also been more careful about wearing a glove most of the time ever since that first incident. That said, I have used this without a glove when my dog pulled and so far, no damage on my skin. 3.) Less pulling force - I am ready to say, this front pull thing works. After looking at reviews of a couple of brands I decided on Freedom, so this is our first no-pull dog harness. With it, my dog's yanking and pulling does not feel as strong anymore (but if he decides to stand still like a statue when something afar is of interest to him, I still cannot move him. And I will not yank him either, I'm following training guides that says it's better to entice him to follow you of his own accord). 4.) The quality of the materials are good - I also bought my dog a long leash for playing and training at a local pet shop. I was disappointed that the metal clip (clasp?) was not very big. I didn't have any problems with it so far, but for a long leash, I'd imagine a sturdier metal clip. I was afraid of getting the same with this order, but nope, this harness came with a nice big, solid looking metal clip so I'm really happy with it. 5.) Pretty colors - I ordered Teal with a silver leash and I love the colors! The teal harness also perfectly matches the collar I ordered from a different supplier which is another plus for me. There are only two things I can say that may be a concern, but I don't think are real hindrances: 1. It needs to go over the head: head, mouth, dog = might be a problem. Unless you train your dog to like it, it's not always fun to have something go over a dog's head. My dog thinks it's playtime and the leash is for chewing or tug of war. He is trained to sit when I put on the harness or leash so this only happens when he is in an extra playful mood. There are free training videos out there on how to put harness or anything over your dog's head/mouth, so it's really not too bad, just takes a little getting used to. And since we've had a few days of using this, it now takes just a few seconds to put it on. 2. It's heavier - When I hold it, I feel like I'm putting it on a horse (nope, never had a horse!), only because it feels heavier than a regular leash. However, considering the materials, it's a very small thing and not a real problem or concern. I do think I should have ordered a medium 5/8 for my dog instead of the 1" but it's still good. My dog might still grow into it. The M is a little too big for my dog too (37 pds with 25" girth), even after adjusting it's still a teeny bit loose, but it does not also seem to be a problem. July 11, 2017 UPDATE: We still love this harness, but we just needed to update the review and reduce it to four stars (because we did expect it to last longer). It's been five months and we've been using it everyday since. It started to pull apart about a month ago on two spots as you can see in the picture. Need to get a new one now. Oct 18, 2017 UPDATE: Back to five stars. Read through the product policy again and saw tha they have a lifetime warranty. You just pay for shipping and they repair it for you. I have since sent my dog-damaged harnessed and received it like it's brand new! So yes, we love this harness!

I bought this for an impulsive one year old, 70+ lb American Bulldog/Blue Nose Pit mix. I'd previously used a similar harness (not with the double leash, though) which she backed out of and could slip through if the thought occurred to her. I run many miles with her, and although she is a great run partner, it's usually a cross between being pulled by a 6 team dog sled (beginning of run) and ME pulling said sled (end of run) for the last couple miles. The occasional impulsive big chested lunge toward a deer/rabbit/gopher/any small furry thing that she wants to check out has turned into a full on WWE wrestling match to contain her....'interest'...including me, sprawling on the ground to hold her. So...there's my dog. Now, to the leash. I thought I would try this. It got pretty good reviews, and my other harness was 'ok' but it was fraying, and I hate how it may rub under her arms. She seems not to mind...but I do. This harness has a little fabricy, furriness to it that aids in the under arm rub. Reviews told me that it does rub off eventually, but realistically that would happen to any fabric after an amount of time, so I'm okay with it. Nice that it's there. As far as the dual leash thing...it's interesting. It doesn't seem to be this "outstanding" change in dog walking/running, however there seems to be a difference in her response to the loop tightening around her chest when it it taut/tugged. It seems to work well. she's not tried to get out, she seems quite comfortable and happy with it. She walks over and stands to wait for me to lay the loop it over her head and she calmly waits for me to easily clip it on. She knows what's up, and she loves her harness. It's really easy to put on. I like that. The other thing that I really like is that the company offers a free replacement of the harness if the dog chews it or it frays for any reason.. Two replacements, in fact, if I remember correctly. you just pay for shipping, which is fine. This is excellent customer service at the ready. I. LOVE. GOOD.CUSTOMER.SERVICE. It will sell me every time. It's a lost art to appreciate & respond properly to your customer's needs. My dogs do not chew their leashes at all, but with use, as with my old one, they fray or age. I am looking forward to just getting a replacement when I need it instead of hunting down a whole new set up. That was one of the reasons I purchased. The reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars? The leash is a little short. To be fair, the description does say that the harness is not recommended for running, and I knew that before purchasing. It's still pretty nice for running, though, which was a pleasant surprise. I use it all the time. That being said, I am 5' 10" and even at a brisk walk I feel like a couple more inches would help the leash not seem taut all of the time and would give a bit more play. HOWEVER, I am really happy with the harness and leash. And so is my dog, regardless of a bit shorter leash length, it still works for us. I would absolutely by again. I would just say if you are taller and find even a little shortness of a leash irritating...be aware that this is not a super lengthy option for you when you buy. I would recommend this harness/leash set. It's pretty cool.

I am transitioning from balanced training to positive reinforcement training for my recently rescued year and a half old 90lb German Shepard mix. I was previously using a slip lead because I cannot stand harnesses and didn’t feel I could wak him safely in one. I tried the Halti no pull harness and it sucked. It basically attaches to the dogs collar in the front and has no martingale loop in the back. I started working with a professional trainer who highly recommended the freedom harness and still had my doubts. I figured even with normal use my dog was too big for a plain nylon harness and it would wear out quickly. When I unboxed it, I could tell it was clearly high quality and well made. I didn’t have any inclination it might break on me. I put it on my dog and realized I should probably size up from a L to an XL. The L fit but was totally maxed out and he is still growing and filling out. The XL fits perfectly and had more room to adjust but not too much. The velvet is also a nice upgrade due to the fact that the stomach strap sits behind the elbows. We went on our first test outing with the double leash and it was great! My dog already has some leash training and doesn’t pull too bad unless he sees a trigger like another dog and gets too excited. He does get a little distracted and, unlike other harnesses, this leash/ harness combo allows me to direct him subtly, maintaining positive methods and not having to use corrections but also teaching him what leash pressure means and redirect him accordingly. He responded to the tightening of the martingale loop when he did start to pull and our previous training helped him redirect right back to me when that did happen. I really am a fan of the leash as much as I am of the harness. It is a simple idea really, that the handle is free floating and adjusts to the angle you are holding it at. This is a huge upgrade from the matching halti lead I was using with the halti harness. That one didn’t have a handle at all. You could probably get any double ended leash and attach a traffic handle but this one just moves so easily that it seems more efficient this way. It is just the right length for me and my tall dog. I prefer about a four foot length and I feel that when this is bucked to the front and back of the harness it comes out to about that. My dogs big head fits in between the two straps and I can easily switch sides without the leash becoming tangled. I am definitely now pro- harness and can easily manage my 90 lb reactive teenage dog as a 130 lb 5’3 woman and still maintain the positive methods. I love that they have so many different colors because I am kindof a leash snob and love that the tan matches my dog. I kindof wish they made a leather or biothane version for added boujee- ness and use in wet environments. My dog is accustomed to being leashed and doesn’t attempt to chew. Although this set is sturdy I obviously would not say this is at all chew proof because it is just nylon so if you have a dog that chews you will want to use supervision.

We have 2 dogs. A 4 yr old Siberian Husky and a 10 yr old Chow/GSD mix. I read about this harness and thought I would give it a try. My Husky is the worst, although both of them always seem to be on a mission when we walk out of the door and even though we are going nowhere specific, they can't get where we are going fast enough. They are in such a rush and super excited, that it makes the walks not so pleasant. Neither of them have aggression issues. I decided to try it out on my Husky first. Husky = Sled Dog = Pulling! It's in their blood --- that's what they are bred for, but out of safety reasons, I think they should also learn how to walk nice. Years ago, I tried the easy walk dog harness. Worked a little on my Chow, but didn't work at all for my husky. So I was a bit skeptical about this one. The easy walk harness still allowed our husky to pull sideways, and I never got it to fit right. The front would always loosen up after a few pulls and hang down and there was no security after it got loose everywhere, it also did not really turn them around, there was little to no control. Up until yesterday, the only way to walk the husky safely was with a prong collar. And I hated that thing, and I am sure she hated it too! So the harness arrived yesterday. She has a 27" girth and I got the L and it fits perfect. Sizing was easy. Putting it on was easy as well. And wow........... it looks really nice!!!! I got her the raspberry. Very pretty!!! Very sturdy material and hooks. So first impression was very good! So we just walked outside for a minute for a quick test. The neighbor was out with his dog and my girl did not pull to get there. I was still not convinced though, could be a coincidence :D. So a little later we were ready to go for a real walk. Did she pull? Yes she did! Not as strong as in a regular collar, but there was pulling. So what did I do? Each time she pulled I turned around and walked a few steps in the opposite direction. The harness helped turning her around to follow me. Then we turned around again and kept going in the previous direction. She pulled again, I turned around walked a few steps in the opposite direction, she followed, we turned back to keep going. Now we had to do that (I didn't count) probably about 20-30 times on the first part of our walk. She seemed a bit confused about what was going on, but she had a smile on her face and happily let me guide her. After about 20 minutes I think she had it all figured out! Pulling makes her turn around and further away from where she wants to go. Let me mention that she is an extremely independent and stubborn dog!!!! (Most husky's are and I know there are some other stubborn, hard to train dog breeds as well) For her, catching on within about 20 minutes was AMAZING, not that she is dumb, but she usually tries to get things her way!!!! I tried the turn around technique so many times with many different collars and harness and it never worked with my husky!!! If I switched direction she just started pulling in the other direction and we got no where.... I constantly just walked in a circle getting pulled over and over again and going nowhere! I don't know if it is this harness or just because she is getting older and out of the crazy puppy stage. But she can still be pretty crazy. I could not believe how nice and relaxing our walk home was. I constantly repeated myself telling her what a good girl she was and how proud I am of her and she just trotted next to me with a smile, probably thinking "Lady - shut up already" :D :D There were a few minor hick ups on the way back when she smelled something in a bush and she wanted to go check it out, but it was easy to correct her and over all it was pure awesomeness!!! I just had to pull on the leash a bit and she relaxed, turning around and walking in the opposite direction was not necessary. This is not a magic tool, you can't expect it to magically stop your dog from pulling. I would suggest to do what I did and walk in the other direction when they pull. You will have to be quicker than your dog and convince them that pulling doesn't work, before they figure out that they can still pull by shifting their body weight a certain way. So just start turning the other direction right away if they pull. I also don't know if this is the right solution if you have a dog with aggression issues. Its definitely sturdy though. I am pretty sure that I will have to practice a few more times on the next few times. I am sure she forgets what she learned :D, but I am convinced that all our walks will be nice and relaxed in the future. I will order another one for my chow mix now. He has a 37" girth and I was a little confused when I looked at the size charts. Sometimes the sizes say XL: 30-38" and sometimes it says XL: 30-36". When I received my L harness it had a tag and a pamphlet with a size chart. The tag said 30-36" and the pamphlet said 30-38". So I contacted the seller and she talked to a representative and they confirmed that they changed the sizes and the XL is now 30-36". I will also upload a picture of the updated size chart from 2 hounds design.

The harness is decent but not perfect. It does help reduce pulling somewhat and works okay for basic walks. However if your dog is really strong it does not make a huge difference and they can still pull quite a bit. The sizing is also a bit confusing. The medium felt too big while the small was definitely too tight and not ideal for in between sized dogs. Overall it kind of works but may take some trial and error to get the right fit

Was looking for a solution for my barrel chested medium sized rescue dog and this is IT! She was pulling a ton with her martingale collar and was hurting her windpipe and my arm. This harness has solved all our problems. We loved the leash too but it was very short when clipped on both the front and back so we have opted to use the front clip with a regular leash and it works just as well! Love the velvet that goes under her stomach area so it doesn’t rub and irritate her skin. It’s a high quality harness which I feel very safe and confident using. This is import because my dog is skittish and will try and back out of her collar when frightened. She does not pull anymore and this has changed our walks. I can even walk her and push my son in the stroller with no issue.

This product really does what it says it does. It stops my pit bull from pulling me. I'm an elderly lady and I have a dog that is stronger than me. This harness actually works to keep her from pulling me when we have our daily walks, so it's a real game changer. Arrived quickly and is sturdy. Well made and so will last a long time. Highly recommended.

The leash snapped in the middle in the chest strap. No chewing involved… I’m disappointed and surprised because the leash is marketed as indestructible. I will contact the seller and will see how the customer service is.. hopefully good ..

Great, compact harness. Not bulky but has strength and durability. Also because there is minimum material it doesn’t get wet or dirty and if it does it dries quickly. Doesn’t impede movement and is very light weight.

(first purchase - Burgandy - size L) oringal review: I have only had this for a few days now, but WOW. this leash and harness combo is the only thing that has stopped my dog from pulling in walks. He's an 80lb 8 month old Boxer mix we're still trying to leash train and THIS is the leash I have total confidence in. It's already made a world of difference. It's comfy, and seems so sturdy so far. In also very impressed with the weight of the hooks on the leash. (Second purchase - Teal - size XL) 08/31 Edit to update: my 80lb 8 month old boxer mix is now 95lbs and 1 year old. He out grew the L size harness, so I ran straight back here to purchase an XL size. My puppy is now leash trained (in part to this harness/leash combo) but I still love how this harness sits on him because it sits down on the breath bone so it does not pull on his neck. When he particularly rowdy, using both the front and back loop helps settle him down. It is also easy to put on, since it has two latches you do not need to wrap your arms completely around your big dog. I am convinced I will never purchase another brand of harness ever again! Highly, highly recommend.

My dog was an extreme puller. Like I thought I was going to have wrist injuries. Since he is a hound mix, he has the belly size of a lab but a much smaller neck circumference, which made it difficult to find harness that fit him properly and stayed more or less put when he got exctied and pulled. This harness fits him very well. I like the front ring option because it does reduce pulling and the ring sits high enough on the fit that it doesn't cause the leash to get caught up in his front legs too much. I like the martingale ring in the back as well for times when he's not pulling so much because it's very easy for him not to get tangled, even as he runs from side to side. The harness is very easy to clean and is the first one I've found that fits well and doesn't cause my dog's delicate hound belly skin to get super red and chaffy. I did not find the two- carabiner leash to be as helpful as I thought it would be for reducing pulling. It seemed like the carabiner on the back ring was doing more work when he pulled, so I prefer to use a regular and trustworthy strong leash with the just the front ring.
