Looks like a winner for covering the basics
The book seems to be well written, but there are some vexing problems. The sample files aren't compatible with the current version of the CC applications. Additionally, the instructions sometimes fail to match what's on the screen. Usually it's something that the reader can figure out and I recommend that anyone who's working to learn the basics of Premiere give this book a try.

(student) Used this for my Video Editing class
This was the book I had to use for a Video Editing class I took, the class was centered around using the exercises on this to learn how to use premier pro (2017 at that) It works and translates fairly well with 2017 and it helped a lot. I ordered it used and it came with the disk with the lessons on it, I'm not sure if that's the same for all of the used vendors but I definitely got it with the disk.

Great ACE prep
I have been using PPro for about 3 years, and wanted to take the Adobe Certified Expert exam. I used this book and a Lynda.com course as prep, and passed the test! I don't think I could have done it on the first try without this book.

Helpful
Required for class. Can be a bit of a dull read in some places, but the exercises were very helpful. Some things have changed in later versions of Pro though, so occasionally the book is a bit off on information. I'd still highly recommend it for beginners though.

Premiere Pro in the Cloud
Adobe Creative Cloud has a great deal of possibilities because of the interrelationship of the various programs. The workflow for Premiere Pro has change in the Creative Cloud version, making this book necessary for someone making the transition to the Creative Cloud. It is a "learn by example" book, taking you through various projects to understand Premiere Pro CC.

Takes the fear out of learning a complicated program.
Classroom in a Book series for Adobe products are the way to go. They do a great job of walking you through all the major features of each program, and give you exercises to give you practical experience using them. They take the fear out of complicated programs like Premiere Pro.

New book. Unfortunately, the instructor isn't using it. It's still something that I can go through on my own to learn the more detailed aspects of Premier Pro.

Good for learning the program but the lesson files need updating.
I'm up to date with the latest updates for Premiere Pro CC and I think the downloadable lessons need updating, as I'm on lesson 6 and the warning prompt comes up ' this project was created in an earlier version of adobe Premiere Pro and needs converting". As a result it doesn't import correctly. However, I've got the idea of what needs to be done in the lesson so I can bumble through, and hope lesson 7 onwards will work fine.I'm a fan of the "classroom in a book' series that Adobe do, and so far I've used 3 others to learn the respective apps in Creative Cloud. On a couple of occasions I've realised that the books aren't as up to date as my programs are, but that has not been a problem to learning them. Just a couple of workarounds needed. My advice would be to follow the lessons very carefully, as anything you might miss or not do correctly at the time will lead to errors later, and maybe some 'scratchy head' thinking. This book tends to be a lot more verbose than others in the series, and at times I've forgotten what the purpose of the chapter was, as the author tends to offer a lot more alternative information. But I'm learning well with it, a lot more than just sticking clips in sequence with a cross fade here and there. With this book I feel like I'm making a movie sequence. But my advice would be to get the latest version of the book you can, and even then it may not have caught up with the Adobe updates that your subscription to Creative Cloud gives you. I'm not sure there is a workaround to this, other than waiting for, say, a 2016 release.
