ARCTIC FOX Vegan and Cruelty-Free Semi-Permanent Hair Color Dye (8 Fl Oz, POISON)

I have naturally red (really orange) hair, so dying it any shade is always a bit of a chore. After years of natural color, I decided it was time to go back to the dark brown/vibrant red two-tone style I wore for years when younger. I always color my own hair and had used Manic Panic with success and Splat with disappointment in the past. Because it had been several years since I last used a high-pigment dye, I decided to do some research to see what else was on the market before picking up a new dye and a hair stylist friend suggested Arctic Fox. After doing some research and reading reviews, I was confident that it was worth a shot - and boy am I impressed! I had freshly-died my short hair a very deep brown and wanted to add a vibrant red. I bleached the areas I wanted red, shampooed and dried, added the Arctic Fox over the entirety of my hair - this not only adds red to the bleached areas but also adds some red tones to the brown which I've always liked the look of - then put on a shower cap so as to not dye my entire house red and went about my normal household chores for about an hour before rinsing out. The smell was wonderful - like grape juice - while it was on my hair and lasted for several washes. Unlike some cheaper dyes I've used, the color did NOT stain my bathtub at all after rinsing. I'm not at all careful about avoiding my scalp when applying dye, so I was also pleasantly surprised to find that this barely stained by scalp at all and was easily removed with nail polish remover from the small areas I needed to clean up. The color was very vibrant from day one and lasted quite well, still not looking pale and washed out after a month (although it did fade some over that month, I was still getting compliments on the color and didn't feel that it really looked *faded* when I decided to touch it up). After a month, I decided to re-add just the red all over - rather than touching up my roots first - as the brown had actually faded quite a bit and I was both feeling lazy and was now going for a multi-toned red look . Again, I was pleasantly surprised at the results. Unlike most colors, the Arctic Fox color actually took to my natural red roots quite well - without bleach, my natural hair is usually so resistant to dye that it might as well be black rather than red - and blended with it to make a very pleasant, brighter red. The faded brown portions of my hair also took up a fair amount of red and blended to make a deeper red while the highlighted portions went right back to the vibrant red on the bottle. I will definitely continue using Arctic Fox and would happily recommend it to others.

I used this on hair already dyed red with permanent dye to refresh the somewhat faded color and it did a fantastic job. Gave it new life and vividness and the dye itself smells good and not chemical-y and has a lot of conditioner. It is very staining, though, so make sure to clean up anything it gets onto right away. I was surprised that it is actually more staining than the permanent dye I use. I used both "Poison" (Primary red) and "Transylvania" (Black) and to compare them with each other, Poison smelled better and was less staining, while Transylvania smelled a little bit more chemical and stained significantly more. Transylvania is a nice black though. It's slightly blue-leaning, but mostly a neutral black.

I have been using this product in various colors for years. Even though my hair is quite a dark brown, the color manages to show up really well, especially in the sun, and lasts a long time (even beyond what the package promises). It makes my curls pop and I feel that it really hydrates my hair after using it. Great product. The smell is a sort of strong grape smell but it doesn't last.

I do like this hair dye, it’s a very pretty color. It doesn’t stain your sink or shower too bad in my experience, especially if you follow it up with some sort of all purpose cleaner, I used Soft Scrub. It lasted alright, better than my blue black dye from Adore. Definitely need to keep reapplying it if you want vibrant red, but if you’re good with magenta you can wait a few washes before applying again.

I had actually looked up what I could do to turn my pink hair red because some red products had ended up turning my hair pink instead and the search turned up with this product along with instructions on what to do though I just followed the directions on the bottle and opted for the minimums 30 minutes over the heat and arctic fox fixed my pink hair turning it the red I originally wanted. It was surprisingly easy to use, I did Vaseline along my hair line bringing it down my forehead and neck a little and put on plastic ear covers which helped then I used a brush to apply from my roots outwards all over my scalp then just my gloved hands to put on the rest and run it evenly throughout my hair. It was also the only dye I've ever used that I didn't make a mess with funny enough. But anyway, you can see I have long hair and I had bought 2 bottles but I didn't even use up 1 so there's a lot of product in these which was great. 🥰 Thank you!

This was my first time using this brand. It does stain the skin some but compared to regular box dye (from dollar general) it’s not bad. Other reviews are correct with the smell being present with no chemical smell or harsh overwhelming smells. I used 2 full 4oz bottles on my hair. I attached pictures of my before and after for reference. I seen a lot of people on Reddit talking about leaving the dye on longer and possibly over night, I ended up getting a headache and washed it off at the normal 30 minute mark and I think the results are still great. The white tub did not dye thankfully, it wiped out no problems and no scrubbing. I used cool water to rinse my hair out and I was expecting much more dye to come out. I’m writing this the day after dyeing it so I’m not sure yet about how long it will hold up or how much washes out when it is time to wash it. So far this has been a really good experience with this brand. I can’t wait to try other colors. I hope this helps someone, I tried to incorporate what I wanted to know when looking at reviews for this brand/color.

Well, it looks great right after applying it. The color is really vibrant at first and definitely stands out the way you want it to. The smell is actually a nice surprise too—way better than most dyes and not that harsh chemical scent you usually get. That part makes the whole process more tolerable. The problem is that it doesn’t last well. It washes out very quickly and noticeably faded after just one wash, going several shades lighter way faster than expected. That part was disappointing because it doesn’t seem to hold up over time. Cleaning it up after applying also isn’t as easy as I’d like, so it takes a bit more effort than it should. I gave it 3 stars because, while it doesn’t last, it does deliver strong, bold color for the short time it’s in your hair.

I’ve only dyed my hair once or twice before using this. This was super easy to use, didn’t make much of a mess, and the color was fantastic. I normally have a strawberry blondish hair color and I used the red on top without lightning first. The color came out great and still looks good after fading a bit (about a month and a half later)

I swim so take this review with a grain of salt. I mixed this one with pink to have more like a dark magenta red, the color looked kinda dull compared to other brands I have used in the past, but was very shinny for sure, the vibrancy of the color lasted only 2 washes is fading a pretty cold pink.

Update for longevity: after approx 2 weeks, it's still somewhat vibrant which is more than what I'd expect for a red considering it looks now how it did when I left the salon after spending hundreds. Definitely would last a bit longer had I continued to used cold water for every wash. Still impressed with how this turned out for a semi permanent, can't wait to try other colors! Bought this to redo my red that faded out from the salon so it was used on prelightened hair (only underneath) My hair looks better than it did when I left the salon. Left my hair smelling great, and so soft! As long as you follow the directions and rinse in cold water, you won't be disappointed. It will stain your tub if you let it sit after but if you clean it right away it comes right off! Will update the review for longevity after a couple more washes. 3 for now because this held better than the permanent the salon applied after 1 wash Excellent choice for between salon visits.

I have darker brown hair. And i went red very happy. I warn you, it will stain, will cause your hair to bleed for a few days. from the dye btw. But if you have done it a few times your hair picks up the color really good
