Don't Forget This in Your Car!
I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend's birthday. It arrived quickly and was packed up all nicely. The kit is exceptional, although it is difficult to start a fire with the fire-starter, but that might just be because I'm inept at striking metal against metal. This kit is awesome and is definitely worth the money, however, don't leave it in your car when going out into the wilderness with your boyfriend to go mushroom hunting. He was over the moon impressed with this gift and spent hours looking at each part individually, and promptly left it in the glove box of his car right before we got completely lost in the woods for hours. This is doubly embarrassing because we were both raised in these woods, as well....and then it started to rain....hard. I will tell you one thing, though, while we were stumbling around in the woods, proclaiming how we were going to die, and tripping over hidden logs on the ground, and getting soaked all the way down to our underwear, we kept thinking of things in the kit that we could have used. Trust me, a kit like this is essential if you plan on going on a hike and have a short attention span.Good luck all!

Best Kit on the Market for the Price Hands Down!!!
After looking at other survival kits on the market for some time I decided this was the best product for the price! The affordibility in comparison to other simular kits is the reason for the bumping this product up from 4 to 5 stars! I agree with the gentleman below that you can make your own kit, for a little cheaper but that being said im sure he can make his own cloths too with a needle and thread much cheaper as well.. But doubt he is wearing his own brand, anyways I believe it is a great base survival kit to add on too! I actually am in the process of making several more using this as a base which includes, glowsticks, compass, signal mirrors, professional 5ft 3/16' in snares, stormproof matches, nylon cord, led lights, multi tools, compact waterfilter, water purifying tablets, emergancy blankets, etc. And last but not least fishing basics.. Where im from hyperthermia is the least of our worries.. And yes I have caught fish, crabs, crawlfish, on several occasions with just fishing line and a hook tied to a short stick when i was younger. best lure for a kit would simply be a silver or gold spoon! Enjoy your kit!

Great for quick hikes and vehicles :)
Got a second one of theses kits, first one was a birthday gift and still used. Love these little kits for light quick day hiking with my dog :) I have one of these in both my daily drivers, light weight with everything I've every needed to this point and then some for peace of mind :)Actually used it with part of my NFPA search and rescue technician coarse this year February 2020 in Alabama, came in very handy for its space and weight :)

Not what I Expected
I have one of Bear's knives and it seems to be of a decent quality, but this little package has me concerned for a number of reasons. I will comment on each of the contents. I don't mean to be critical, but there are better alternatives.Stuff sack with whistle: This is actually quite nice. Decent nylon construction and signal instructions on the back. A small (loud) whistle is on the zipper pull.Inner "watertight" pouch. Nice concept, poor quality. The plastic on this is brittle and mine actually came with a large crack in the bottom. Thankfully I have some proper waterproof pouches that are much softer and more durable.Mini multi-tool: Gerber Clutch. This sells for about $15, but it's really difficult to open and use. I like the spring loaded pliers, but the rest needs to be worked-in with oil. The tools on it are very, very tiny. I would suggest the Leatherman Style CS. Much better. [...]Gerber Fire Starter: Appears to be sound. Once the black coating is off, it performs like the rest.Paracord: 5 ft. Not enough. If you can afford the weight in your pack, bring 25-50 ft. This will cost about 3 oz, but worth it.Whistle: Fine, but emergency only. The end does not stay on because you can reverse it for a different sound. Could be very easy to lose making the whistle worthless.Mini light: Terrible. It worked for less than one second when I switched it on and does not work anymore. I can't think of anything more important to have in your kit other than a knife and compass. Speaking of which, there isn't a compass.Snare wire: About 16" of really thin copper. You would be hard pressed to catch anything more than rodents with this thickness. It seems to be about the thickness of stripped phone wire.Emergency blanket: Same as any. Good to have, but doesn't last long.Twine: Looks to be about a meter of twine 2-3x thicker than floss. This can be useful for very small jobs, but it's so thin.Emergency tinder: One. 2-3 would be better in case your fire goes out.Waterproof matches: 8 in total with striking board. Completely sealed which is good.Emergency saw: I have not heard very good things about these in general, but it looks to be a little thicker than most.Sewing kit: 5 colors about 12" each of thread. Two buttons, one needle and a safety pin.Signaling mirror: Has instructions on the back. Useful.Fishing kit: Far better than nothing. A few meters of thin line, 4 swivels, 4 hooks & 4 sinkers.Priorities of Survival Pocket Guide: This could be useful for someone who does not know how to build shelter, find food, water or self-rescue.In all, this little kit has a bit of everything, but it would only last a few days if you don't know how to survive otherwise. If you built your own kit separately, it would cost a little more, but you would also be able to include much higher quality items. However, in an emergency, this would be far better than nothing. However, I had expected higher quality from Gerber and Bear.
