Is this the real rose of jericho from the holy land or the fake selegenella? There is a difference between them.

The item description says it is Selaginella lepidophylla which is considered the "false" Rose of Jericho plant. The "true" Rose of Jericho is the Anastatica heirochuntica. They are both resurrection plants in that they can go without water for a long time and then open, and they are both related to tumbleweeds. I've been looking for the Anastatica heirochuntica myself as well...they are harder to find, but I think both plants are cool and beautiful.

can they be planted in soil ?

No. Only in water. You put in big bowl and cover to top. Clean it out every week or 2 weeks and put fresh water every time.

So do I cover the rose with water completely ?

No don’t cover the rose completely. Put enough water about half way to the tose it will open completely within a day. But I do not recommend it it has a funny smell even when you change the water every day.

How big are they when dry?

Size varies. They're usually about the size of the palm of your hand when dry. When wet, they expand open. Once dried again, they shrink back to it's original dry size.
